Late Summer Sunshine

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

I'm attempting to get back into full swing here this week :-)  Much going on, and much catching up to do.  It is Pals Paper Arts challenge time again, (PPA213).  On the weekend I just felt so tired and uninspired.  For me, I usually have to walk away for awhile and wait for inspiration to come on its own.  Forcing it usually means a flop of a card or design. 

This week's inspiration came suddenly last evening as I was contemplating the sketch for this challenge this week.  I didn't want just another pat setup like so many of the others I have seen; yet when you're doing a sketch challenge, it is hard not to have each others cards look very similar.  I actually combined several stamp sets to create this card.  My inspiration came while contemplating that we are in the last days of July; August is right around the corner, and really this is my favorite time of Summer -- the last lazy "dog days" of summer (Miss Laredo can tell you all about those -- LOL), which make me think of sunshine, Sunflowers in full bloom, the harvest starting to arrive at the local farmer's market, just everything that is the epitomy of the best part of this season.  In a few short weeks, there will be a noticeable change to the feel and smell of the air, and all of a sudden you will realize that Fall is coming.  It is a nostalgic time of year really.

So I wanted to capture the essence of this time of year - the warmth, the sunshine, the "golden" feel of the harvest fields and the promise of the days ahead.  I hope I accomplished that in this card.  I also chose to make this card a "happy birthday" card for a special young lady whose birthday is this week -- I hope she will enjoy it :-)

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin Design Tips:

• This card base is cut from Whisper White cardstock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"; inset mat is of Daffodil Delight, 1/8" smaller; and a secondary inset mat from All Abloom DSP stack, another 1/8" smaller.  I love this DSP - it feels so sunshiney to me.

• Window Into Summer.  I imagine these little squares as "windows" on a late Summer day :-)  A glimpse of a sheaf of wheat; a spray of leaves just starting to form their red berries; and front and center, those cheerful Sunflowers bobbing their heads in the gentle Summer breeze (do you know Sunflowers move with the sun, so that they are always facing it?).  These images are stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink (except for the leaves which are stamped in Always Artichoke), and colored with the beautiful Daffodil Delight blendabilties, with a little Cherry Cobbler blendability mixed in on the leaves for the berries.

                                             

                                                                                                 

• Oh the thinks you can do with Blendabilities!  Do you see those pearls?  Those are our pearls -- trust me!  Colored over with the mid-tone of the Daffodil Delight Blendabilties pens.  Isn't that cool?  There are so many things you can do with alcohol markers.  Have you started collecting your sets yet?

• Birthday Banners.  The simple sentiment from the Something to Say stamp set was perfect to just slip in a little set of banners on this card and create the perfect little summer birthday card.  This sunny car would be perfect for most any occasion, even just a simple "hello."

Gentle Hello

 

Good Evening Fellow Stampers -

I've been kind of low key this weekend.  I'm very worn out from Convention and the work week this past week.  I have done a lot of sleeping this weekend :-)  Which doesn't help one a lot when they have things to get done . . . but sometimes it is just necessary.

So this evening, I quickly put together a sweet little card for the Mojo Monday challenge (MOJO355)  from this past week that is just ending this evening, and used the colors from the Can You Case It challenge (CYCI29).

      

 

What I decided I really loved about the CYCI challenge was the color combination chosen this week.  There was something just soft and soothing about it.  Thus, it seemed to come together perfectly to make a good "hello" type card. I also decided, based on the focal point I chose, to switch the Mojo Monday sketch around just a little bit, and put the "banner" pieces and ribbon addition to the bottom of the card rather than the top.  I felt that across the top it would detract from the flower focal point.

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• This card base is cut from Very Vanilla cardstock on the full-length vertical, meaning cut from top to bottom on an 8 1/2" piece of cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11"; score at 5 1/2".  Sometimes the "up and down" cards as I call them are perfect for certain designs :-)  I placed a piece of Smokey Slate as the matted background piece, cut just 1/8" smaller (4 1/2" x 5 3/8").
  

• Technique Tip:  Always use a scoring tool to make lines. Don’t just fold by hand. This often results in buckling and wrinkling of the cardstock, depending on its “weight”. A great card deserves a great foundation on which to build.  Also, use a Bone Folder to create a crisp edge on all of your folds. But be careful…too much pressure can lead to unsightly “cracked” edges.  I was reminded of this the hard way this evening -- especially as I folded the opposite way of the score.  Did you know there is a wrong side and a right side to folding on your score line?  Indeed there actually is!

• Flashback.  I did a little studying of our current DSP offerings and determined that Flashback was the most conducive with the color challenge from CYCI.  The two patterns I picked from this package interconnect beautifully, and gave way naturally to bringing the Pool Party to the forefront as the focal point.

•  Hey There Buds.  This fun new single stamp offering stamps up just beautifully in Pool Party on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, and cut with a circle framelit.  I have decided I really love this simple little floral spray, and look forward to using it again, maybe even trying out some new blendabilities on it :-)

• Perfect Pearls.  This image just lends itself perfectly to a spray of pearl embellishments, don't you think ?  :-)  A beautiful coordinating bow in 1/2" seam binding ribbon is the perfect elegant touch.

Guest Stamper Michelle Laliberte Quinno - Birthday Greetings

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

Happy Friday!!  Today I want to take a moment and feature a fellow Stampin' Pretty Pal - Michelle Laliberte Quinno, who sent me this lovely birthday card last month for my birthday.  I really did love this.  It is simple but fun.

Like me, Michelle likes to play with other fun products, not just Stampin' Up!  What I like about this card, is not only the beautiful use of the new Work of Art stamp set, but the lovely sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.  This is a fun thinlet die that Simon Says Stamp sells, that works beautifully in our Big Shot.  Don't you just love the use of her fun mixture of color with some of our new In Colors, as well as neutrals?

 

The oversized sequins add the perfect touch of dimension.  I really did love this birthday greeting and thank Michelle for thinking of me :-)  I hope you have enjoyed my guest stamper today!

Cards for Danny!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

Have you seen such a precious face?  This little boy is battling brain cancer, and all he wants for his 5th birthday is a big box of cards.  So we Stampers, are banding together to inundate him with lots of cards for his Birthday!!

 And here's my creation for little Danny :-)

 

Some lego building "blocks" for a lego lover :-)  Spelling out a "6" for a "big boy" --  I hope he will like it.  This was really easy to make everyone!  Just need a 1" square punch, and in this case I used the circle punch from the retired Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack.  I used glue dots to adhere the circles to create my "legos."  Very simple quick and easy.

Hope you'll create a fun Birthday card for Danny and send it to him.  Mine goes in the mail tomorrow!
