Good Morning Fellow Stampers -
Happy Friday to everyone!!! Whoo hooo -- we made it to the end of the week! :)
Today is Paper Players (PP220) challenge time - and this week's challenge was to create a vintage or antique-looking design.
I actually have been contemplating this all week, trying to decide what I wanted to do. I loved what my upline, Ann Schach, did this week; but I don't want to just CASE her, and it seems like everyone is using Bright & Beautiful right now -- it is definitely the "go to" set this season. And the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to reach back to some retired sets that are by far my very favorite of the season from the past several years. So I settled on one of my most favorite sets, Christmas Lodge; and the whole design seemed to come together in my mind after that.
What's nice about this is that this set is still available to you via our MDS (My Digital Studio) offerings; so you can download it to your computer and play away :-)
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Vintage Color Combination. I considered my color scheme carefully for this card, and decided on Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede and Very Vanilla. Picking colors which are more subtle, softer in intensity, and have a more "aged" coloring to them naturally, as well as blend well together, will help you with achieving your feel for vintage or antique. This cardbase is cut from Very Vanilla cardstock, the "long way" as I call it -- cut the length of your cardstock 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2". I then chose an "untraditional" feel by setting the card on its side. I really like the feel of this card. The inset mat is Cherry Cobbler, Soft Suede, and finally Very Vanilla again, each cut 1/8" smaller than the piece below it.
- A Little Contraband. I acquired a new textured impressions embossing folder recently, that is not Stampin' Up! --- horrors!! Don't tell anyone ;-) It is, in fact, a Darice TIEF, Snowflake Swirl, and is similar in style to another Darice folder I used several weeks ago called Leaves Swirl. I love this folder and the very vintage effect it has; it was perfect for the background I wanted for this card. It is sponged with Soft Suede ink to add to the vintage effect of this card.
- Focal Point. The centerpiece to this card is definitely the winter house itself. Stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, it is colored with Cherry Cobbler and one of the Skin Tones assortments blendabilities. The Very Vanilla oval was sponged with Soft Suede ink after it was cut out. I then used another new product I got recently and have been awaiting the perfect time to pull out and play with -- Marvy Liquid Applique in white. The fun of this was once I spread it on, I coated it with Dazzling Diamonds glitter, and then heated it with the heat tool. It puffed up with the heat, and looks so cool on the card. Almost like real snow ;-) Unfortunately, the camera didn't capture the glitter on the snow scene this time around. But it is there -- trust me -- LOL :-)
- A Touch of Vintage. I think our new Cherry Cobbler 1" Sheer Linen Ribbon is fabulously vintage. This ribbon is just beautiful and so much fun to work with. The bow on this card is a double bow for added extra detail. Don't forget your pearls :-) They are the final crowning touch of elegance to a truly vintage card.
I hope you have enjoyed this challenge design today. It's a good reminder to reach for our retired sets once in awhile; those sets we just couldn't bear to let go of even though the industry had moved on ;-) -- Some special ladies have started a new challenge blog this past week dedicated solely to using our retired stamp sets - Retro Rubber Challenge Blog (rrbc01). I think I'll just drop this artistic creation off over there today as well ;-) Stop by and check them out and see if you can find a little inspiration for your own retired sets.
Have a Fabulous Friday everyone!
Until Next Time . . .
