Good Morning Fellow Stampers -
Happy New Year's Eve everyone!!! I just cannot believe that 2014 is over in a few hours. This year has flown by me; especially this Fall and Holiday season it seems! I wish time would slow down just a little ;)
The deep deep freeze has hit Colorado and we're breaking records from the 1800's -- now seriously!? Sheesh. So Miss Laredo and I tucked snuggly inside the house and may not come out for the rest of the Winter -- I believe it's called Hibernation -- LOL!
I feel like I'm fighting off a cold or something this morning. So it seems best to just cuddle on the couch with hot tea and lots of cold fighting meds and hope that I'm don't wake up sick for New Year's morning!!
In the meantime, I want to bring you today one of my last posts as a member of the Creative Crew Design Team at SplitCoastStampers. I my term on the Design Team has come to a close; however, I will try to pop in once in awhile and participate in the challenges and I encourage you to do the same :)
This fun challenge assigned us the task of choosing creating a design for a "unique" holiday in December that was "other" than the obvious -- LOL ;-)
CCREW1214HF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM - Holiday Focus
This month, let’s look beyond the obvious for our Holiday Focus challenge! Through the year we hear of fun activities at work or school, such as Wear a Hat day, Favorite Sports Jersey day, or there’s even that ridiculous commercial about Bring Your Dog to Work day. That thought prompted me to look for some unique other December holidays that have been shared along the way.
Choose the holiday you wish to represent in your CCREW1214HF project from the following list, but please skip the rather-obvious-poinsettia day.
Monday, December 1 Eat a Red Apple Day; Tuesday, December 2 National Fritters Day; Thursday, December 4 National Cookie Day; Friday, December 5 Bathtub Day; Friday, December 5 Day of the Ninja; Saturday, December 6 National Gazpacho Day; Sunday, December 7 National Cotton Candy Day; Friday, December 12 Poinsettia Day; Tuesday, December 16 National Chocolate Covered Anything Day; Wednesday, December 17 National Maple Syrup Day; Tuesday, December 23 Festivus; Wednesday, December 31 Make Up Your Mind Day.
Well, hah -- what better idea than to create something for National Chocolate Covered Anything Day which was actually on December 16th -- I'll be you didn't even know that, did you!!?? ;-)
The little set of boxes in the picture above was my original creation. Since then, I have had a lot of fun playing with the new Box Punch Board -- and so I have expanded my original submission so that I can bring you somewhat of a "product focus" today :-)
The Box Punch Board, like the Envelope Punch Board, is easy to use, has all the instructions right there on the board, and includes your stylus for scoring, and this board has an expandable section to accommodate larger sheets of paper.
My paper of choice this season has been the brand new Under the Tree Specialty DSP. This paper is fabulous for box making; it's a heavy kraft style paper with wonderful designs on it -- absolutely perfect!!!!
Cut your chosen piece of cardstock for the size box you want -- the guide on the board will let you know; this piece is a 6" x 6" piece. Then, per the guide, line up the sheet along the lines as indicated.
Next score as instructed -- see the arrows in the picture above; there is a horizontal score, a vertical score, and a diagonal score. And be sure to "punch" before you turn the paper for the next side!
This is what your sheet looks like after you have scored and punch each side.
Now, you're going to flip your page over, and line it up again -- except this time, all you're going to do is punch (no more scoring). Like this (pic above) --
This is what your sheet looks like now, once you have finished.
One last step before we fold ;-) -- how convenient, on the opposite side is your "slot" punch -- just what you'll need to create the notch to close your box!
Just like this :-)
Now we're ready to fold; your little diagonal scores are folded inward, as you can see here -- this is how your box sides come up and together. If you want, you can put a little adhesive in these diagonal folds to help hold your box together.
And your notches that we just punched, are how you bring your ends together and secure them!
When it's all put together -- here's your cute little box!! Just right for that little treat :-)
Here's the new round of fun little boxes I created, with all those great tags I made for the "non-traditional holiday colors" challenge posted earlier this month.
Each of these boxes is a different size; I experimented with a number of the different sizes on the guide and even created one of my own [the red & white box is made with a 4" x 4" piece of cardstock - not one of the options on the guide; I love the cute little box it created :-) ]
This collection of boxes is absolutely PERFECT for an "anything chocolate"-type day!!! Maybe I'll use them for Valentines - heehee.
The best part is that the Box Punch Board will be available in January with the opening of our new 2015 Spring Occasions catalog -- and that is just perfect for your gift giving events this coming Spring.
But the fabulous heavy specialty designer series paper - Under the Tree - won't be available much longer. So get yourself a package before it's gone!
Now it's Your Turn :-) Hop on over to the December Gallery and check out all the great creative inspiration, and then choose a "non-traditional" holiday to create a fun project of your own and upload and share with the rest of us :-)
Don't forget that the SCS CCD January galley opens tomorrow with a "male focus" round of challenges. You'll love it!! So be sure you pop over and check it out!!
