Hello Fellow Stampers :-)
It's Friday -- and I did indeed stay up late so that I could be back with you this morning and share a design for the Paper Players (PP228) challenge this week.
This week's challenge was a CAS challenge (Clean and Simple) featuring a "sentiment only."
Much as the "tall and skinny" Mojo Monday challenge is one of my favorites, CAS challenges are some of my least favorite :-) I just am not a CAS person -- I spend the whole time fighting the feeling like the card is too plain and something is missing. Some people really like CAS. So hopefully, with my design here today, I've appealed to those folks who like lots of white space :-)
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips :
- Layerothology. I did indeed layer the background to this card, despite the fair amount of white space. This card is cut from Whisper White cardstock, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4". The back layer, cut 1/8" in from card front size, is cut from Rose Red cardstock; the next layer in another 1/8" is cut from Basic black. The top layer is cut from Whisper White and is a full 1/4" smaller than the Basic Black layer. Inbetween the black and Whisper White layers, laid strategically behind my sentiment cutout, is a piece of DSP from the Stacked With Love DSP Stack. Technique Tip: After putting your "background" piece in place behind the cutout, just dot some Multi-Purpose glue on some of those "hanging" pieces of the cutout and tack them to the background piece to lay them nice and flat and hold them in place. Otherwise, they just kind of stick up and can get easily caught and tear.
I took this close-up picture so you could see how the center pieces of the negative space can lift up and stick out -- so just tack them down :-)
- Hello You :-) We have a fabulous new set of thinlets -- and they really are quite terrific. The Hello You Thinlets Dies set has 4 word cutouts in it (Hello, You, Thanks, & Happy). Technique Tip: Lay a piece of wax paper between your thinlet and chosen cardstock, and then run back and forth through your Big Shot 2 to 3 times to ensure a clean cut. Your little word will pop right out :-) Be sure to use caution removing the cut from the thinlet, as this one is thin and delicate, but quite pretty when complete. We'll take a look at these somemore in the days ahead :-) Here I used the negative space left by the cutout with the DSP behind it for a fun and easy effect.
- Simple Embellishment. I debated between a few candy dots and something more as I strugged with "too simple" of a card for my tastes. I settled on a simple Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta ribbon and faux bow with 3 of the tiniest pearl embellishments to top off this card. I think it worked out perfectly. It's not too much, but just right for a CAS card.
I hope you have enjoyed today's design. Tell me what you think of my CAS design :-) And give those new thinlets a try!! You'll love 'em! As always, I'm only an email away if you need any support or have any questions. Just drop me a line!
Have a fabulous Friday everyone. I've got to head off to work! See you all later :-)
Until Next Time . . .
