Good Morning Fellow Stampers :-)
Welcome to the first Pals Blog Hop of 2015 and Happy Hump Day!!! We hope your new year is off to a great creative start. To celebrate the start of a new Stampin' Up! year, we are showcasing products from our newest catalog this month - the 2015 Spring Occasions catalog. You may also see new Sale-a-bration products too. If you don't know how to earn free Sale-a-bration products - contact your Stampin' Up! demonstrator to learn more.
You may just be starting the blog hop or may have come from Sherrie Gross' Stampin' Sunshine blog [that sounds so cheerful :-)]. Use the full lineup below to move along from blog to blog so you see all of the new projects.
So now, let's jump into my project for you for today :-)
Valentine Tealight Trio
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- All Done in Vellum. How's that for some fun :-) This beautiful trio of candle holders, is done in Vellum, with a little embossing, and punched with the fabulous brand new Confetti Heart Border punch! I really love this fun and not too difficult 3D project, which also features the really lovely You Plus Me stamp set. Two fabulous new products from the 2015 Spring Occasions Catalog that you are going to want to have in your stash!
- Let's talk about some real simple directions here so you can try this little project at home --
First of all, these are cut from our Vellum paper. Vellum is sturdy, but can be tricky. We'll talk a little more about that in a minute.
To get the 3 sizes of candleholder, cut as follows:
4 1/2" x 8 1/2"
5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
6 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Next, in each case, score at 2", 4", 6", and 8"; then turn the piece degrees and score again down the length at 2". This will form your bottom flaps.
Technique Tip: When scoring Vellum - be careful!! Use the wider end of your score tool; and use a "light" touch. Do NOT push too hard or you will cause your Vellum crack, and when you go to fold on the score line you'll see that it has ripped right through. Vellum is touchy when it comes to folding, creasing, and pressing an indentation like this into the material. You'll see the same experience if you try to dry emboss with a TIEF and your Big Shot. The pressure will cause breakage, not just an impression -- so again, use caution and be careful!
Next, cut on the score line of the bottom flaps up to the 2" mark; snip out the little 1/2" flap (JUST on the bottom - not the top).
Now -- punch your Hearts across the top; and then we'll talk about Vellum and "folding" on those score lines.
Technique Tip: Again -- we're going to use caution here. You should be able to gently crease inward on your score lines to start to get the shape for your tealight holder -- but be gentle! Take it slow and gently so that your Vellum doesn't crack and break. If you have not pressed too hard when scoring, so as to cause breakage at that point, you should have no problems while folding.
Now, we are going to place sticky strip (as in the picture above, on the "backside" of that remaining little 1/2" flap -- this will make sense when you go to pull the holder together, because you will see how the flap needs to attach. Do the same with the bottom flaps. I put 3 strips on the very bottom flap; and one on the two middle flaps so that as you bend them up and layer your bottom of the tealight, each piece will hold to the next underneath it, and then the bottom secures for solidly.
This picture turned out a little fuzzy (apologies), but I folded over here so you can see the sticky strip before I pulled off the backing. [Yes, I had a fancy orange stripe put on my manicure, to root my Broncos on to victory -- and then they lost, so no comments from the Peanut Sections -- LOL :-) ]
Now, rub your Embossing Buddy over the Vellum cardstock to eliminate static, then stamp the cute little heart, and arrows images from the You Plus Me stamp set at random on the "inside" of your holder in VersaMark. Sprinkle with white embossing powder - (I tried Irridescent Ice, but it just didn't show up like I thought it would) - and heat with your Heat Tool.
Technique Tip: When heating Vellum -- again, be careful. Vellum warps and can burn easily. The trick is simple -- turn your Heat Tool on, and hold it away until it has warmed up good; then you can just quickly pass it over the embossing powder and you can see how quickly that embossing powder sets up. That way you don't need to hold the heat tool over the paper for very long!
Now - fold up and attach all your edges and bottom on your holder. Finally, with ribbon of your choice, tie around the holder just under the punched area, and you're done! :-)
Technique Tip: Before trying to tie your ribbon around the holder - first lay it flat on your work surface, and run some SNAIL along the length of it (just the middle section - not all the way to the tips). Then you can lay this against the holder as you are wrapping it and it will stay in place. Then, when you're ready to tie and do your bow, place a glue dot just under where you are tying to hold it in place for you while you do the bow. It works magic! And you won't need another pair of hands :-)
Drop some battery operated tealight inside, and wah-lah! I have these sitting now in my living room, and I have to tell you -- Fabulous!! You're gonna love them!
My local class is going to get to make these at my Valentine's themed class on February 7th !
Don't miss out on all the fabulous new products in the brand new 2015 Spring Occasions Catalog -- if you need a catalog, or you have any questions about this project or any of my other designs, remember, I'm only an email away - and happy to help! Hope to see you again soon!
