Hello Fellow Stampers -
Happy Monday :-) How has yours been? After yesterday's devastating loss to the Indianapolis Colts, I pretty much wanted to stay in bed -- LOL ;-) We're feeling rather "blue" here in Broncos Country this morning.
It's time for the Pals Paper Arts [PPA235] challenge - a color challenge this week. I'm continuing the birthday theme focus this week with a look at a really wonderful Sale-A-Bration set today - Big Day. As well, we're going to play with a couple of new products from the Spring Occasions catalog -- a product focus on the brand new Chalk Board paper and Colorbox Chalk Inks.
Now I'll just give you my very personal opinion on this color mix, and you can do with it what you want -- LOL. Island Indigo and Pool Party are in the same color family and blend beautifully (Pool Party being the lighter version of Island Indigo). Soft Sky is not! If you look at Pool Party and Soft Sky next to each other the blues almost clash; this is because Soft Sky is a "cool" blue with a very blue undertone. Pool Party is a "warm" blue with a yellow undertone to create your "turquoise" feel. So under normal circumstances, I would never put Soft Sky into this mix. It just doesn't work. Needless to say, I struggled with where to insert Soft Sky into the mix -- I just wasn't happy with anything I tried. I finally just "forced" it into the design and hope that it looks okay to all of you!
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Layerothology. This cardbase is cut from Island Indigo 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4". It is layered with a piece of Pool Party cut 4 1/8" x 5 3/8", and embossed with the Decorative Dots TIEF - one of my favorites!
- A Banner Birthday. The focal point of this card was created using the Banner framelits -- a stack of 3. Using the brand new Chalkboard paper as the top layer, I stamped the really fun and fabulous sentiment using the brand new Colorbox Chalk Ink in Aquamarine. I in love with the effect already :-) Hint: Keep an eye on the Doggone Delightful Stampin Facebook page -- we'll be talking inks this weekend ;-) The second banner layer in this stack is Whisper White; and the final layer is that Soft Sky we talked about earlier! This layered banner is popped with dimensionals.
- Bow Topper. Have you checked out the brand new Bow Builder punch? OMG!! That's all I can say -- LOL. So adorable! So cute! So fun! There aren't enough words!!! You HAVE to have this punch -- LOL. Okay -- we'll be playing with bows a lot more in the days to come -- that's for sure! This one is made from a piece of the fabulous new Best Year Ever DSP - a Sale-A-Bration item. You can only grab this beautiful set of paper as a free Sale-a-Bration item with a qualifying $50 order. Now this particular piece is really quite cool; it's blue with the "bokeh" effect on it -- unfortunately, the lighting washed out a little bit here. But trust me -- it's really cool! ;-) The bow is also popped with dimensionals.
This card is not overly complicated, but it has nice impact! Are you excited to try all these new products? Won't you tell me what you think? Remember, if you ever have any questions, I'm only an email away :) Are you looking for a Stampin' Up! demonstrator? I'd be honored to be your choice. Tomorrow is Terrific Tuesdays day -- so stop back by and we'll see what Stampin' Up! has for us this week!
Until Next Time . . .
