Patriotic Star

 

 

Good Monday Morning Fellow Stampers -

Whew!  What a fast and busy weekend.  I've got almost all of my Summer garden and planting done now, thank goodness!  A few more planters left to do; and then keep those grass seeds wet and see if I can get the lawn to grow back in.  Miss Sadie and I had a big busy Saturday; even got our "nails" done for the first time ;-)  I've been busily cutting and prepping Shares packets for all those who ordered.  And trying to keep up with designing and housework.  I think I need a vacation -- LOL!  Now it's back to the real job.  **Post Note -- Yes, indeedy :-)  This design is the "headliner" at the Paper Players for Challenge 251!  Such an honor!

 

Today is Paper Players [PP251] challenge time.   I'm in full "patriotic" mode now, so we'll play with some more "red, white, and blue" today :-) 

 

 

 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  Let's play our layers a little different today.  Instead of the typical Whisper White card base -- today's card base is cut from Real Red, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4" -- and Whisper White actually becomes the first layer (1/8" in all the way around).  The next layer is Night of Navy, that has been embossed with the Lucky Stars TIEF, and lightly stamped with Gorgeous Grunge "splatter dots" and the cute "star" image from the Be The Star stamp set, using Whisper White Craft ink.  Looks like a "sparkler" across the night sky :-)
  

• Stars Stars Stars.  Using the beautiful "larger" star image from the Be The Star stamp set, it's inked in Night of Navy, stamped on Whisper White cardstock, and cut out with the coordinating Stars framelits -- so fast and easy!  Then I scored the star on each of the cross lines, and folded outward on the "arms", and inward on the "elbows" to create a 3D effect that is popped with dimensionals.  It creates a fabulous effect for the front of the card.  This is laid over some White Bakers Twine, and a "stripe" horizontally of Whisper White 1/2" seam binding ribbon, and a little banner created using the "celebrate" from the Good Greetings sentiment set that was all the rage last year (retired).   I popped a few little Stars punched with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack, for a nice little finishing accent.
  

 

This card design is actually fairly quick and easy; it has enough detail to be eye-catching; but not so overwhelming that you couldn't put it together in about 10-15 minutes.  I have several friends and relatives that have July birthdays, and I think this card would make a fabulous birthday card as well!  So I left the pearls off -- would you have put pearls on today's design?  If so, where?  I'd love to hear your thoughts :-)

 

 

I hope everyone has a fabulous Monday and a good start to their week.  It's hard to believe, but tomorrow is the last day of June; and believe it or not we've already passed the longest day of the year.  Which means the days start getting shorter and it's all downhill from here -- LOL  ;)  Before you know it, the snow will be flying!  Let's try to enjoy some Summertime before then!

Simply Simple Saturdays - Settling In

Good Saturday Morning Everyone :-)

I'm so happy it's the weekend, I can't even tell'ya how happy I am!!  It's been a hectic couple weeks; and especially this week with being in Montrose over last weekend, and coming home late in the day on Monday (I was originally planning to stay until Wednesday this week, but I just decided Monday afternoon I needed to get home), and trying to adjust to a new puppy in the house, and help her start to learn the ropes, and you name it!!  It's been crazy around here the past ten days!!

 

But we are finding our way through it, Miss Sadie and I; albeit with a rough patch here and there.  Yesterday afternoon, my good friends, Amy and Kim, encouraged me to meet them at the local Dog Park with Miss Sadie, and so, Miss Sadie and I put on her "big girl leash" and off we headed.  It turned out to be the very best thing Miss Sadie and I had done all week; and we have found a new place for Miss Sadie to go play, meet new friends, and get all her energies out in a safe and fun place.  I'm very grateful for my friends :-)

 

This little one is pretty cute -- I have to admit, and has already stolen my heart.  I do miss my Laredo every day, but Miss Sadie will do I think -- LOL  :-)  She has some pretty big "paws" to fill; but she's workin' on it!  Hopefully she'll stop chewing everything up in my house very soon -- LOL!!

 

Amy brought her two dogs, Logan and Keira, and her son Hudson along to play.

I think Hudson may just be all enamored with Miss Sadie Ann . . . ;-)

 

Granted she is pretty cute!  heehee

 

 

The scary thing for me was how much Logan looked like Laredo Mae.  In person, you can see distinct differences; but Logan's coloring, and size definitely lend to Laredo's.  The Blue Heeler comes through real strong in Logan!

 

 

Time for a little drink for hot, thirsty puppies

 

 

 

Miss Kim didn't have a puppy to bring, but she is a pretty good "Auntie" to Miss Sadie --

although Miss Sadie isn't so sure from the looks of her expression in this photo -- hahaha

 

It was a wonderful afternoon; and then Miss Sadie had her first outing to a real live restaurant, sitting on the patio and being cooed at by all the patrons.  She was a very "big girl" and did very well!!  Even got to eat a tortilla chip or two. 

Today Miss Sadie and I will be attempting to get the gardening caught up and other projects around the house; and maybe even host a "meet the puppy" get-together this afternoon.  Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Rockets Red Glare for Mojo Monday

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

 

TGIF!!  Crazy Crazy fast week!  So much going on -- and the month of June is just flying by!  How are things in your world?  Miss Sadie is learning about leashes, and walks, and where she should and should not go potty -- it's an awful lot for a little puppy.  I think she's a little overwhelmed!!  LOL   She definitely is a handful right now!  I'd say I'm looking forward to six months from now; but reality is that I know I'll miss her puppy weeks/months when they're gone, so how to enjoy this time despite all that's going on is my current focus.

In the meantime, I have to fit in "real life" including my job, cleaning the house (somewhere, somehow -- LOL), and keeping up with all of you :-)

 

It's Mojo Monday [MOJO403] challenge time.  I've started to feel antsy to do some patriotic designs.  Fourth of July is just around the corner, and I think it's time to pull out my Fourth of July decorations around the house this weekend, and design some fabulous cards and projects for the upcoming event.  I do love a good old-fashioned 4th of July!

The nice thing about the Mojo Monday challenge, is that it is actually a Verve sponsored challenge (check out the Verve stamps website for their lovely collection of products all their own style) -- Which means I feel a little more freedom to use something other than Stampin' Up! products when designing for this challenge.  And when it comes to patriotic themes, I personally think no one does it better than Taylored Expressions!  I adore the products Taylored Expressions has created around this holiday.  So -- yup!  Today we're going to use "contraband" in this design :-)  If you want any of the stamps or dies I list for this design, remember -- I don't sponsor or sell Taylored Expressions products.  They just happen to be one of the companies I follow and get some fun things from once in awhile for my inventory.  So if you want something you see, pop on over to their website and check them out!

 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  There are lots of fun varied layers to this design.  The card base for this card is cut from Whisper White cardstock, 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  The background mat is Real Red; topped with Night of Navy which has been cut a little bit different than I usually do to show some extra border and give a pop.  It was also embossed with a really cool textured embossing folder from Cuttlebug called Stars.  If you do a little searching online, you can probably locate this embossing folder.   The criss-cross background layers are cut from Whisper White and two different patterns of Real Red designer paper from the Brights designer series paper color collection stack (SU).
  

 

• 4th of July Wreath.  My fun focal point uses images from Taylored Expressions 4th of July Wreath stamp set.  I inked the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored the stars with stampin' write markers from the Brights and Regals collections (Real Red and Night of Navy).  The wreath is cut out with a Circles framelit, then has a Night of Navy frame cut with the 2 1/2" circle punch.  It's been popped with dimensionals over a "banner" stamped with a fun image from the Taylored Expressions stamp set called Rocket's Red Glare, again stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black, and colored with Real Red and Night of Navy stampin' write markers.  I free-hand cut the banner ends.  The "celebrate" sentiment also comes form the 4th of July Wreath stamp set, and was inked with Night of Navy on Whisper White cardstock, and free-hand cut out then popped with dimensionals over the center of the wreath.

 

 

• Rockets Red Glare.  The Rockets Red Glare set has just exactly that -- a bunch of fun and different "fire cracker" rockets.  I picked one, stamped it with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored it with Stampin' Write Markers.  The great thing about this set from Taylored Expressions is that it has a coordinating die set called Firecrackers that allows you to cut out these great "rockets" using your Big Shot!  Easy and fun!

A Happy Hello for Pals Paper Arts

 

Hello Fellow Stampers -

 

Thursday has arrived.  Miss Sadie Ann and I have had quite the couple of days trying to get settled in together.  Turns out Miss Sadie has quite a few things to learn -- like going potty outside, and not in Mom's Studio !   Mom has decided she is quite exhausted running after a new little one; and she's not as young as she used to be!  ;-)

 

It's Pals Paper Arts [PPA257] challenge time.  This week I have combined with the color challenge over at colourQ [cQc#296].  I loved the color combination at colourQ this week -- blue and yellow is one of my favorite combinations.

 

 

 

As I considered my design direction this week, I played with several ideas.  First, we are approaching the Fourth of July and it is getting to be time to start playing with some fun patriotic designs; the color scheme feels summery and "Marine-like" to me as well.  I decided to create a fun summery card that would be suitable to lift anyone's spirits ;-)  Let's see what you think --

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  I pulled in the blues of the colourQ combination in the layers of this card.  The card base is cut from Whisper White cardstock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4.  Pull in each layer's measurement by 1/8" as you move inward -- Night of Navy, Marina Mist, and Soft Sky on the top.  The Soft Sky layer has been embossed with the Lucky Stars textured impressions embossing folder, in keeping with the "marine" feel I originally thought of when beginning this design.

• Kinda Eclectic.  The Kinda Eclectic stamp set was introduced last year; and I think lives up to its name.  I love the "eclectic" collection of images in this set, that work nicely with my stars background.  I took the sun image, stamped with Versamark on Vellum, and embossed it with a bright yellow embossing powder (non-SU).  The image was cut out with the Circles framelits.  If you look at the next picture, you will see that I carefully snipped away the vellum between each "ray" of the sun to create a fun and fabulous 3-D effect when I popped this up with dimensionals.  It really pops on the front of the card.  Give it a try :-)

 

• A Happy Hello.  The new Tin of Cards stamp set has some absolutely fabulous sentiments in it.  This one - "A Happy Hello" - was perfect for my summery, sunny card.  I love the font type to this stamp set!  A combination of a 2" circle punch, and the Circles framelits, creates the perfect little focal point.  Don't forget those pearls :-)

 

 

• Turn to the Inside.  How about a little peak at the inside of the card ? ;-)

Perfect for a little note to your favorite person!
