Good Morning Fellow Stampers :-)
It's Ask Wendy Wednesdays. You may recall my little project from last week's Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop -- and I promised you an easy tutorial to make this cute purse cardholder. So here we are :-) Let's jump right in!!
We're going to start by cutting the following :
Cardstock of choice : 1 piece cut 5" x 8"
2 pieces cut 1" x 11"
DSP of choice: 1 piece cut 4 1/2" x 12"
1 piece cut 4 1/2" x 7"
Contrasting DSP : 2 pieces cut 3/4" x 11"
2 pieces cut 3/4" x 8 1/2"
Now - let's make the purse "base" first.
Take the 5" x 8" piece of cardstock,
and score it at 1" all the way around
Snip on the score line on each side
at both ends of the "box"
And then using your bone folder,
fold in all sides firmly on all the
score lines
(You can see the little "flaps" we just created)
Fold you little flaps in and
add adhesive (use Multi-Purpose
glue -- it will hold better)
Tuck in your flaps and glue them to the sides
on both ends. Make sure everything is secure
and set your little box base aside to dry.
We'll use it in a minute.
Now let's prep the handles to our purse
Score each 1" x 11" piece of cardstock
at the 1/2" mark down the long side
NOTE: Start your score 1 1/2" in from each end
See picture -- DO NOT SCORE ALL THE WAY TO THE ENDS!!
Round the ends of your handles
with a corner rounder
Now, fold your handles firmly
on the score lines
Remember: the "bump" of your score line goes to the inside.
Now we're going to lay a bead of
Multi-Purpose glue along the inside
However, do not lay glue all the way
to the end of the score line --
See picture
Fold closed and hold firmly
until the piece is dry and stays
folded in half.
Multi-Purpose glue tacks closed
fairly quickly, so this shouldn't take too long.
Using your bone folder, give your handles
a "curve" and flatten open your "ends"
as you see here in the picture.
Now you can set your handles aside
Now it's time to start creating our "purse" sides.
Start on a short side, about 1" from the corner, and using Multi-Purpose glue, put glue all along that short side . . .
and across the front.
Now lay your 4 1/2" x 11" designer paper (long side) flush with the bottom edge of your box
and "curve" around and adhere along the front.
You can "crease" the DSP gently at the corner, but be careful not to crease above the top edge of the box. You want to maintain that "curved" look to the upper part of your "purse".
Then glue down the other "short side"
You should have a short piece of your DSP stick beyond the corner.
Put Multi-Purpose glue all the way up the edge of your DSP, and attach the 4 1/2" x 7" piece here, overlapping the two together by no more than an inch
Now finish the "back" side of your purse by putting Multi-Purpose glue along the edge of the box just like we did for the other three sides, and laying your DSP flush with the bottom edge of the box.
Then again, where the DSP's meet, lay glue along the edge up the sides of the DSP and overlap and lay them together, closing the "loop" around the box.
Now we're going to lay the "facing" around the outside and inside upper edges of our purse.
Again, like above, we are trying to keep one side (what I refer to as my "front") free of seams.
So we'll start the glue partway in on the side, and across the front.
Start with the 3/4" x 11" piece and lay it around the upper edge, again flush with the top edge (like we did with the bottom). You don't want the underneath DSP peaking over the top of your facing edge.
Finish off all the way around with the 3/4" x 8 1/2" piece. Overlap your ends and seal things down cleanly.
Do exactly the same thing along the inside edge using the remaining 3/4" x 11" and 3/4" x 8 1/2" pieces.
Here is your finished "purse"
Now we're going to attach our handles using the same Multi-Purpose glue
Hold your handles in place long enough for the glue to dry and hold.
Do the same with both handles, front and back.
I make sure my handles are aligned just by sight. Don't get to OCD about it ;-)
This is how it should all look when you are done.
Now add some "bling" to finish off your straps :-)
I used rhinestones here; but you can use pearls, enamel dots, or whatever you would like.
Fill your cute little bag with a set of cards, tie it with a bow, and give it to that special person, or set it on your desk :-)
Hope you have enjoyed this little tutorial and that you're ready to make your own bag. As always, I'm only an email away if you have any questions - [email protected]
Until Next Time :-)
