Beachside Dreamin' for the Paper Players

Hello Fellow Stampers -

Happy Monday -- a little bit late. I had not intended on this coming to you so late today; I kind of lost track of my weekend with so much going on right now. So, although I started my design Sunday evening, I just sort of ran out of steam to get it done and posted up in time for an early Monday morning drop to all of you :-) Sorry about that! Let's hope the rest of this week goes a little bit better.

It is indeed Paper Players [PP258] challenge time. This week's challenge is a "clean and simple" challenge with a beach theme -- apparently some still think we're hanging onto summer here!! LOL Unfortunately, I have bad news for some of them. Autumn is coming quickly on our heels. Let's have some fun today while we can still say it is officially "summer."

I don't often showcase non-Stampin' Up! products. Every once in a while though, I like to pull out some of my favorite items in my stash.

And that would most definitely be my House Mouse collection :-)

This one is called "Catchin' the Rays" from 1999.

Those mice make me giggle ;-)

Today -- my little mice are enjoying a day at the beach - proper sunblock and all because, of course, you have to protect those soft little mice tummies.

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

Layerotholoy. I don't often do a "no layer" card. Frankly, this one happened by accident. It was not my original intention or plan in my mind. I watercolored my image last evening, and when I picked the card back up this morning, I was like, oh, well, I think it's best left the way it is. So I have a "no layer" card here today. The image has been stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black, directly on Shimmery White cardstock (8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"). The image has been "watercolored" with a large variety of ink colors and a blender pen. I actually had quite a bit of fun playing with this last night :-)

Sea - Shells. One of my very favorite stamp sets that retired this past season, is the By the Seashore stamp set. I am hoarding that set; probably will never sell it -- LOL ;-) I created a foreground "layer" by stamping three of the images on Shimmery White cardstock, watercoloring with blender pens, and then fussy cutting, and popping with dimensionals. Once I had the items where I wanted, I trimmed them to match the edge of the card. The final touch to this fun design, is Dazzling Diamonds glitter -- a favorite of mine. And what better way to adhere this fabulous glitter, than with our brand new Fine Tip Glue Pen. LUV IT!! So easy and so "clean" -- no mess and no fuss. This is going to be a "must have" when the Holiday Catalog goes live on September 1st.

Simply Simple Saturdays - Little Catchup!

Hello Fellow Stampers -

Hard to believe that it's half-way through August already! I just cannot believe how fast the time goes anymore. I can't seem to find enough hours in the day for everything on my "to do" list. Sadie is growing up way too fast too! You will be shocked to see how big she's gotten. This little furball I brought home has already gotten long legs and a sleek body and is running me ragged :-) She is a joy and I'm thankful for her in my life.

So we have some catching up on a few things to do today. And I'm working through a lot of "backlog" in my Studio.

Lettuce Celebrate!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

Well, guess what!! It's Friday !! :-) And it's an off-Friday; which means I can actually do things I want to do today -- LOL . . . yeah, we'll see!

Guess what else -- it's Mojo Monday [MOJO410] challenge time; and lo and behold, here's that Pals Paper Arts [PPA263] challenge combined right in with it. Now how did that happen ?? ;-) I guess the inspiration finally snuck into the Studio somewhere.

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

Layerothology. This card is cut from Very Vanilla cardstock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4". The background layers are Pear Pizzazz and Farmers' Market DSP, cut 1/8" in at each layer. There's a Sneak Peak here folks :) The layers have been wrapped in the brand new Into the Woods Rich Razzleberry 3/8" cotton ribbon. What a soft beautiful ribbon. I'm really going to enjoy using this ribbon throughout the Fall season :)

Lettuce Celebrate. I adore the new Market Fresh stamp collection. Today I decided to use the lettuce bunch to create a fun birthday card for a second cousin.(once removed I think is what they call it -- LOL). I used blender pens to color the lettuce bunch with Pear Pizzazz ink; the banner is colored with Tempting Turquoise. The bunch is fussy cut and popped with dimensionals against a "pop color" background of Tempting Turquoise. My little visiting bee friend was borrowed out of the Garden In Bloom set -- cute ;-) He is colored with a Crushed Curry stampin' write marker, fussy cut, and popped with a dimensional. He's busy buzzing around my salad -- sheesh! LOL

Don't forget those pearls -- strategically placed along the gingham background.

Thursday Break!

Hello Stampers -

Well, normally today is Pals Paper Arts challenge time -- and who knows, maybe something will appear later today (but I'm not going to put a bet on that) -- LOL ;-)

We simply are taking a break here at the Doggone Delightful Stampin' Studios -- inspiration is lacking and rest is needed! :-) So Miss Sadie and I are heading to the Dog Park to play and we'll nap a little later.

Everyone have a wonderful Thursday, stay cool, don't work too hard -- and Miss Sadie and I will be back with you soon!!

"Too Cool for School" - Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop - Aug. 2015

Good Morning Fellow Stampers - :-)

It's that time of the month -- when we forego Ask Wendy Wednesdays for the Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop :-) Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for August. This month we are showing off our favorite crafting tools – those Stampin’ Up! tools that we just can’t live without. We hope you enjoy our projects.

So let's get started with my project today where I showcase two tools I use pretty much every single time I sit down and design -- the Simply Scored Scoring Tool and the Stampin' Trimmer. You simply cannot cut and score bags, tags, boxes, and even your cards without these two tools. These are some of the most useful tools we have and certainly would be "too cool for school" ;-)

How about a "purse" bag and a coordinated set of cards :-)

What sweeter gift could your child carry in to the teacher to kick of the year; and what teacher wouldn't appreciate a wonderful set of cards to use in the spur of a moment clinch.

These purse bags have been very popular this year - you can find them most anywhere on the internet.

I had been putting off designing one of these; but decided this was the week :-)

I have to say, they are so much fun and really quite easy.

Without my Trimmer and my Simply Scored, it would be much more difficult.

Here are some Technique Tips I often give when instructing my designs - some things to remember when using your Simply Scored :-)

Technique Tip: Always use a scoring tool to make lines. Don’t just fold by hand. This often results in buckling and wrinkling of the cardstock, depending on its “weight”. A great card deserves a great foundation on which to build. Also, use a Bone Folder to create a crisp edge on all of your folds. But be careful…too much pressure can lead to unsightly “cracked” edges.

Technique Tip: Did you know that there is a right and wrong side to your scored card base? The “bump” formed by the scoring tool goes toward the inside of your card. You’ll notice when you fold inward so the score bump is inside that you get a perfect professional-looking fold and card every single time!

Technique Tip: Keep a fresh blade handy for your Trimmer at all times. When you start seeing "feathering" along the edges of your cardstock when you cut, you will know your blade is wearing out and going dull, and it's time to trade it out for a new one! Also, turn your blade guide (your guide slides easily out of the track). The guide wears and should be replaced occasionally to aide in keeping your cardstock cutting clean and sharp.

Let's take a close up look at a couple of the coordinated cards -

The featured DSP in this project is the Bohemian DSP. I have loved this collection of papers since I first saw it.

It feels very southwest to me -- I love the color combinations.

I coordinated Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, and Hello Honey throughout this project.

Watercolor Words and Crazy For You are the featured stamp sets in today's project.

Both of these stamp sets are versatile and have great font type for any project.

These card designs and fairly clean and simple; making it easy to make two of each to create an 8-card set for your Purse Bag gift.

When making a card set for gift collections, clean and simple is easier and just as lovely! Your recipient will love it!
