Hello Fellow Stampers !
Happy Labor Day - a little late. We're moving a little slow here today at Doggone Delightful Stampin'. Been working on some cleaning, a little laundry, some movie watching. It's kind of nice to have a quiet day.
Did you know that Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers? According to the U.S. Department of Labor's page on the history of Labor Day, "it constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country." The origins of Labor Day actually date back to the recession of 1890 that reduced demand for railway cars, prompting Chicago railway magnate George Pullman to lay off workers and reduce wages. Many of his workers went on strike. However, a push by workers and Unions for recognition of workers across the country began in 1885. The first state bill was introduced into the New York legislature, but the first to become law was passed by Oregon on February 21, 1887. During the year four more states — Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York — created the Labor Day holiday by legislative enactment. By the end of the decade Connecticut, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania had followed suit. By 1894, 23 other states had adopted the holiday in honor of workers, and on June 28 of that year, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday in the District of Columbia and the territories.
So while you are relaxing today, having those b-b-q's and having one final hurrah of Summer, remember those who "labored" to make our nation what it is today, and afford us this day of rest from our labors.
It's Paper Players [PP261] challenge time today -- and although we're running a little behind getting this post up, I actually started playing with this cute little challenge yesterday. I combined the Paper Players challenge this week with the color challenge over at Can You Case It [CYCI#85].
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Layerothology. These cute little note cards are cut from Whisper White cardstock, and sized 3" x 6", scored at 3". I then used various sheets from the Into the Woods DSP to create little layered fronts. The coordinated colors here include Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, Early Espresso, and Soft Suede.
- Love Notes. The Paper Players challenge was to make little love notes to stick in your kids or your honey's lunch. Well, other than the 4-legged fur-baby in the house, I don't have any kids; so I'm opting for my honey's lunch ☺ I used a number of different stamp sets to create today's little set of notes. The one above uses Work of Art along with Lighthearted Leaves. How about a little Marina Mist faux bow ☺
This little love note includes the new Thankful Forest Friends stamp set and the new Acorn Builder punch. Just cute and fun ☺
How about that wonderful stamp set in the Watercolor Wishes card kit! I love the font and the sentiments in this stamp set. Remember, you can only get this stamp set by purchasing the card kit.
A few lighthearted leaves set off this little banner, and a Daffodil Delight faux bow over linen thread.
I hope you have enjoyed today's little notecard collection ! Won't you leave me a comment and let me know what you think? I do enjoy reading your comments and cherish every one.
Tomorrow it will be "back to work" and time for Terrific Tuesdays -- so stay tuned!!
Until Next Time . . .
