Trick Or Treat for Pals Paper Arts!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

 

How is everyone this fine day?!  Yesterday was the first day of Fall.  My honey and I had lunch on the patio yesterday and although it was an absolutely beautiful day, I definitely felt and smelled Autumn in the air!!  I am looking forward to cooler evenings, lit candles, apple cider bubbling on the stove, and curling up with my Sadie Ann!

 

Today is Pals Paper Arts [PPA269] challenge time.  I thought today's sketch was rather unusual.  And then I had an epiphany.  Let's see if you think my design works with the sketch idea😉

 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  This card is cut from Very Vanilla cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" -- a portrait card as I call it.  The background layers of this card are created with a Tangelo Twist mat (4 1/8" x 5 3/8"), and a fun piece of Happy Haunting DSP (3 7/8" x 5 1/4").  Over this I laid a Spider Web Doily that was adhered with the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  I LOVE this new adhesive tool.
  

• Trick or Treat.  That fabulous stamp set that is used with the Witching Decor kit -- well it's pretty fabulous for other things too!!  Here I used one of the focal images from the stamp set, cut it out with the Lots of Labels framelits dies, and popped it with dimensionals.  A little bit of Tangelo Twist ink drawn in gives the sentiment a pop!  Don't forget a few little pearls to add some elegance!

 

• Along Came a Spider.  Have you checked out the new Howl-o-ween Treat stamp set yet, and coordinating Boo to You framelits?  Beyond cute!!  This little spider friend drops from his spider web (from the Witches' Night stamp set too), on a thin Silver Metallic Thread.  The spider web was cut out with a circle framelit, and then I fussy cut around the outside edge for more dimension.  Both the web and spider are popped with dimensionals which also hold the thin Silver Metallic Thread in place from top to bottom.  For an added touch, I used Crystal Effects on the spider web to make it glisten.

Ask Wendy Wednesdays - The Bakers Box Thinlet Die

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

 It's Hump Day!!  Hard to believe Fall is finally arriving.  Time is moving so fast.  Before you know it, the Holidays will have truly arrived at our doorsteps.  I'm hoping things will cool down enough now that I can start leaving the air conditioning off.  We shall see.  So far the forecast has been fairly warm for September in Colorado.

 

Today I want to answer a question that one of my Blog Subscribers asked a week ago.  I thought it was a Fabulous question and needed some focused attention.  Here is Stasia's quesion, in part -

"I just used the Baker's Box dies for the first time using DSP.  It cut right through the paper at the creases, so I used a crease pad and it didn't even cut the outline of the box.  When I cut with Card Stock it worked.  I'm so sad . . .  Any suggestions for me?"

 

Well this one stumped me just a little bit.  I have not experienced this with my Bakers Box Thinlet die set; however I am aware that some die sets cut quite deeply and some designer series papers are thinner than others and thus can cut right through.

 

Here is one panel cut from a piece of Happy Haunting DSP.  The piece cut perfectly, and all score lines are in place.

No issues here!  However, I would note that our current DSP is a nice thick paper - heavier than some of our previous DSP, and also some of our Specialty DSP.

 

 I posed this question in my internal private Stampin' Pretty Pals chat room.  The feedback was mixed as many of those demonstrators have not experienced this phenomenon either.  That does not mean it doesn't happen.

 

Here are a couple tips, both from the Pals, as well as from my own experience, when using these types of dies (or any dies for that matter), that tend to cut very deeply:

 

    From Stampin' Pretty Pal Karen Gooch:  "I had this problem the first time I used it, so the second time I ran the DSP through on top of some card stock and it worked out okay for me."  Karen suggests you give it a try on some retired cardstock you don't care about to give it a try.

    From Stampin' Pretty Fearless Leader, Mary Fish:  "We have to adjust a bit because the tension of the Big Shot varies from machine to machine (due to age, use, etc.) and the thickness of DSP and cardstock is different. I suggest she try some scrap DSP (to test) and use the crease pad plus a piece of DSP as a shim in her sandwich. She can increase from the DSP as a shim to cardstock if that doesn't cut and score cleanly."

    From Stampin' Pretty Pal Paula Crutcher Butler:  "I made 36 of the pocket  cut [through the score line on] any of my samples; but when [the gals] started making them, I think I had 4 of the [boxes] that were cut [through the score line].  So sometimes it is just random how the machine is cutting is my guess."

    From Stampin' Pretty Pal Victoria Townsend Lozier:  "Some DSP is thinner than others, so that could be part of the problem, why it cuts through the creases sometimes."

 

In fact, it is true that each Big Shot is different from each other.  And certainly the age and how much use the machine gets can affect how a die reacts as it goes through the machine.  I recommend you use your Magentic Platform (not your regular platform), and that you do some experimentation.  Try running the die with a cardstock shim; try it with your crease pad and a cardstock shim; try it with various different types of  designer series paper.  Experiment!  I trust there is a solution.

 

And if you continue to have issues Stasia, don't hesitate to contact me by email [[email protected]] or phone [303/475-9449] and I will be happy to help you find a solution with Demonstrator Support.  Your die could potentially be too "tight" or sharp as well.

Witching Decor Project Kit!

{Fall} Into Autumn for the Paper Players

 

Hello Fellow Stampers -

 

How is everyone!  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend and a good start to your week.  Miss Sadie and I took some time off this past weekend.  It was time to take a break from the crazy schedule around here lately and just do something fun.  We spent time at the dog park on Saturday.  On Sunday we went to the Funday for Dogs at the Summerset Festival here in Littleton.  We met our good friend Amy and her dog, Logan.  We went on the Woof Walk, and had pancake breakfast together (even the dogs got pancakes - LOL).  We enjoyed the booths meant just for furry friends, where Sadie and Logan enjoyed a doggy ice cream, lots of spoiling, and lots of treats.  It was a beautiful day in Colorado, and it was nice to spend time together.

 

My little one is growing up fast, and I can't believe how big she's getting already.  She is a little pistol, that's for sure.  But a sweetheart too!  I'm anxious to get her to the high country for a hike to enjoy the Aspen trees that are starting to turn very quickly now.  Fall is in the air --

 

It's time to return to the Studio, and do some catchup.  It's Paper Players [PP263] challenge time.  This week is a Clean and Simple challenge.  I've had this card in my head for three weeks, and it was the perfect time to put into paper.  I'm excited to pull out another new stamp set, and play.

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  This card is cut from Whisper White cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" [a vertical card].  The background layers are Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive.  The Old Olive piece is embossed with the Woodland TIEF before being adhered to the Pumpkin Pie cardstock.  In the spirit of CAS, there is no additional embellishment.  Hard to resist a ribbon or two here or there -- LOL.
  

 

 

• Fall Into Autumn.  This adorable little scene is stamped from the Happy Scenes stamp set.  I colored it using Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, and Daffodil Delight stampin' write markers from the Brights stampin' write markers collection.  The edges have been sponged with Soft Suede and Pumpkin Pie ink.  The Leaflets framelits -- how perfect - to frame this little Autumn scene.  I think this is just fabulous!!  I cut a coordinating leaf from the Kraft corrugated paper and laid the pair over some Gold metallic thread.  After some contemplation, I decided to forego a sentiment as I felt it detracted from the simplicity of the card.  Sometimes less truly is more.  Don't forget a few little pearls!  ☺

Mojo Monday Design Challenge

 

Good Morning Stampers -

 

I'm just popping in for a minute -- I have not been feeling well this week; and yesterday was particularly bad.  So I did not feel well enough to be in the Studio last night and design the card that I have in mind for this challenge.

 

I just wanted to let you know that I'll be back a little later -- either today or sometime this weekend with my Mojo Monday design; I hope you will feel it was worth the wait!
