Good Morning Fellow Stampers -
TGIF!! Here I am at an off-Friday from work -- whew! What a relief! I need this day off. Why is it every time I have a day off looming it seems to get filled up with all sorts of errands, and things to do?!! Oh well -- looking forward to a nice day! How about all of you? Do you have some crafting time carved out just for yourself and some creative fun? I plan on attacking a number of projects this weekend inbetween class with some fabulous gals on Saturday (we'll be doing the Shaker card kit this weekend and I'm looking forward to it!), and a fun Masquerade party for work.
It's Mojo Monday [MOJO420] challenge time -- and I'm very excited to share my design with you today. I love the Mojo Monday sketch designs and the freedom I feel to "go all out" with this particular challenge. It's right up my alley so to speak. I'm not sure what it is this week; maybe it's the way the much cooler weather arrived all of a sudden; maybe I'm just feeling the change of the seasons; or I see the holidays on the horizon. Part of me is just ready to cozy in. I'm trying not to rush the seasons to fast; but snow and cold is calling to me. I was definitely ready to ink up the beautiful Winter Wishes stamp set today and start having some "snow" fun !! 😃
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
This is another ASEs design (Advanced Stampin' Experts); and so I'll try to give you this week's little tutorial -- let's give it a try in a slightly new format 😃
- Cut your card base from Basic Black cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11"; score at 5 1/2" - [a vertical top fold card].
- Cut Silver Foil 4 1/8" x 5 3/8"; and a piece of Tempting Turquoise cardstock 4" x 5 1/4". Stamp the pine branch image from Winter Wishes, using the Archival Basic Black ink pad, stamping off first where necessary to create a light "echoed" look (you will be stamping the image twice each time) - first in the upper left-hand corner, second to the mid-right hand side, third from the left left. Stagger you look and adjust directions keeping the look natural. Stamp the pine cone image to the top of each pine branch bunch to create a cohesive "bouquet" of branches - in other words, the pine cone pulls it together. Note that I stamped two pine cones on the upper left-hand pine bunch, and on the right-hand side pine bunch, and only one pine cone on the left left-hand pine bunch. Now, using your Stampin' White Chalk Marker, create "snow" on your branches and pine cones. You want this to look natural, so proceed with a good "eye" and with care. A light snowfall does not necessarily coat every single pine needle or branch of a pine tree. I speak from 45+ years living in the beautiful state of Colorado 😏 Note how this looks just "pops" on the Tempting Turquoise cardstock. Adhere the Tempting Turquoise piece to the Silver Foil with SNAIL adhesive and then your double layer piece to the card front with SNAIL.
- Create a center "layer" piece by using 3/4" x 5 1/4" Silver Foil, and a piece of Winter Wonderland Designer Vellum measuring 1 3/8" x 5 1/4". You are going to overlay the edge of the Vellum onto the Silver Foil. Use your Fine Tip Glue Pen, strategically putting glue behind design areas on the Vellum to attach it to the Foil -- hold in place for a little bit so the glue has time to dry and attach your paper properly. Attach the piece down the center of your background layer with SNAIL, and again the Fine Tip Glue Pen on your Vellum piece so you can "hide" the glue. Don't overdo your drops of glue. You don't want them to "press outward" when you attach and show through your vellum.
- Now let's create our Tag focal point, and the pieces to decorate it. I used the Brushed Silver cardstock that retired this past year for all my focal point pieces. If you don't have any of this cardstock "hoarded" - LOL -- put Smoky Slate in it's place. That should work nicely as well. We are doing all our stamping in Archival Basic Black ink today. And using the Stampin' White Chalk Marker for all the "snow" accents.
- Cut a piece of Silver/Gray cardstock, 3 3/4" x 2" for your tag. Cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock 4" x just slightly more than 2". This is going to be the "matting" for your silver/gray tag. We are going to punch these two pieces with the Ornate Tag Topper punch -- remember that technically the largest size to fit in your punch is 2". However, at just slightly more than 2", if you are careful, you can wiggle that piece into place in the punch, keeping it centered, and still get it punched. Punch the top of both pieces. Stamp your tobaggan image on the silver/gray piece, centering it. Using your chalk marker, add "snow" accent streaks through the top portion of the image, and some lower toward the bottom (remember, you've been sledding all day -- LOL). Center the silver/gray piece on your Basic Black piece and adhere together with SNAIL (use your 1/8" handle punch to widen your hole just slight on the Basic Black piece so you can line it up with your silver/gray piece). Pull a piece of Basic Black 3/8" Stitched Satin ribbon through the hole of your tag and secure. This piece will be attached with dimensionals to the front of your card when it is ready to be adhered. Adhere a small Silver Foil doily to the back of the tag on the lower left-hand side.
- Stamp the following images in Archival Basic Black on your Brushed Silver (or gray) - two ski's, two pine branches, and a pine cone, and the "Warm Wishes" sentiment on a piece measuring 1/2" x 2 3/4". You are going to fussy cut both ski's and the pine branches and pine cone; before cutting, use your Stampin' White Chalk marker to create "snow" effects in strategic places. Make it look natural. Cut all your pieces out, and cut banners on each end of your sentiment piece.
- Create a "Pine Bouquet" with the pine boughs and pine cone using glue dots, and then attach to the top of your tag on the base of the ribbon using glue dots again. Use glue dots to criss-cross and adhere the two ski's together. The attach the Ski's to the right hand side of your tag with more glue dots. Run a piece of Linen Thread through a Wooden Snowflake embellishment, tie a bow, and adhere to the middle of your criss-crossed ski's with glue dots. Then over the top of your Linen Thread bow, securely adhere a Winter Wonderland embellishment with glue dots. Adhere the sentiment with dimensionals to the lower left-hand side of your tag, at an opposing angle. The entire focal piece should now be adhered to the card front at a slight angle (per the sketch) with dimensionals -- giving a nice pop-up and dimension to the card front.
Finish the inside of your card using a similar effect with your pine branches, pine cone, Archival Basic Black ink, and White Chalk marker.
This card takes a little time to put together, but is well worth it for the Wow! factor. It's fabulous in person and would be a beautiful piece to give to anyone! It is "generic" enough to not be Christmasy; it would work well for just a nice Winter Hello type card.
