Good Morning Fellow Stampers -
Happy Thanksgiving to one and all!!! It's turning into a "white Thanksgiving" here; and a very bitterly cold one. I'm hoping to be heading "over the river and through the woods" quite literally, very soon as I head up into the nearby mountains to spend the day with dear friends and one of my downline, actually -- a sweet lady and the rest of the family! I've been quite busy here since yesterday! I love this time of year as I pull out well-loved favorite recipes that I only use during one season a year (the Holiday time between Thanksgiving and New Years), and start baking and cooking. The kitchen warms, wonderful smells waft through the house, happy sounds come from the TV or radio -- it really is "the most wonderful time of the year." Pumpkin pie is made; my very very top secret recipe Chocolate Marble Cheesecake; fresh home-baked rolls are rising early this morning to be baked in a little while, pulled fresh from the oven and popped into lined baskets to keep them warm and fresh for dinner. The car will be loaded, Miss Sadie will go off to visit at "Auntie's" house with her little cousins, and I'll head off for a day of good food, warm friendships, and rousing games of Mexican Train! I hope you all have wonderful plans today as well!
I love the idea of just one more Thanksgiving craft -- and even better, a decor item to decorate the front room, or even the dining area to greet guests! This wonderful banner is easy peasy to make, especially with the aide of the fabulous Build A Banner kit. I've used the kit before, and I really love the great pieces and parts to the kit, and how easy it is to take those pieces and parts, add some new products to mix things up a little bit, and just like that you've got a fun piece for any special event. Here's how to make this lovely little banner for your Thanksgiving event --
- Using a Stampin’ Spritzer, color a canvas banner from the Build a Banner Kit with Hello Honey ink. While waiting for it to dry, cut a pennant from a sheet of Into the Woods Designer Series Paper. Punch two holes in the top using the 1/4" Circle Punch (use the canvas banner to align the holes). Put the banner on top of the colored pennant, lining up the holes, and thread the thick white twine through the holes; tie a knot at each end. Clip the two pieces together with Clothespins.
2. Stamp the “Give Thanks” sentiment in Rich Razzleberry ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Cut the image out in a square. Stamp the curly foliage image in Early Espresso ink over the top of the Rich Razzleberry foliage. Stamp the small branch image in Old Olive ink on the top of the Early Espresso foliage image. Stamp the “Give Thanks” sentiment a second time in Hello Honey ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Cut out just the leaves and adhere them to the top of the layered foliage. Stamp the “Give Thanks” sentiment a third time in Tangelo Twist ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Cut out the sentiment and adhere it to the top of the layered image using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere a Gold Metallic Foil Doily to the back of the Whisper White cardstock square and adhere the entire piece to the banner using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
3.Tie some Old Olive Baker’s Twine into a bow and adhere it to the top of the square piece. Adhere two Into the Woods Elements to the bottom of the Baker’s Twine.
Best of All -- a number of the items on the supply list for this project are on the Online Extravaganza this week -- the Build A Banner kit, Metallic Doilies, and Clothespins just to name a few!! So why not give this beautiful project a whirl!
Alright -- how about one special holiday recipe that I love to make very year -- 7-Up Jello Salad. Anyone else have this recipe filed away in an old recipe collection somewhere? This was shared with me years ago by friends of the family. It's one of my favorites!!
7-Up Jello Salad
Salad Ingredients:
2 pkgs. Lemon Jello
2 c. 7-Up (in place of cold water for Jello)
1 can crushed Pineapple (drained -- be sure to save the juice)
1 c. miniature marshmallows
1 banana
1/2 c. nuts (optional)
Make jello packets per normal package directions - i.e., dissolved in 2 cups boiling water. In bowl, slice banana and add drained pineapple. Add 2 cups 7-up. Then slowly pour in dissolved lemon jello. Stir thoroughly. Let begin to cool; add 1 cup marshmallows before jello begins to set up (marshmallows will settle across the top of the mixture. Set in refrigerator and let thoroughly set. Before serving, spread topping across the top.
Topping Ingredients:
2 tbsp. butter, melted,
2 tbsp. flour
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. sugar
1 cup pineapple juice (from the drained pineapple above; if necessary, add water to make a full cup of liquid)
1 container Cool Whip
Melt butter; add flour. Stir well until smooth (no lumps). add sugar, whipped egg, and one cup pineapple juice liquid. Heat to a boil stirring constantly, and cook until thickened. Cool. Fold in container of cool whip; spread on jello salad.
I'm leaving you today with a cute little Thanksgiving poem:
Give me the end of the year an' its fun
When most of the plannin' an' toilin' is done;
Bring all the wanderers home to the nest,
Let me sit down with the ones I love best,
Hear the old voices still ringin' with song,
See the old faces unblemished by wrong,
See the old table with all of its chairs
An' I'll put soul in my Thanksgivin' prayers.
