You're a "Cut" Above!

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

 

Welcome to Monday -- and a new week!  And with it has come the wind; a common phenomenon in Colorado in these early pre-Spring months.  And some of my least favorite weather!  So we are under a "high wind warning" here in my corner of the world today -- a good day to "hide" inside!!!  LOL  I hope everyone had a nice weekend and a sweet Valentine's Day!

 

It's Paper Players [PP282] challenge time.  Today's challenge is a color challenge - and really it's a nice fresh, bright color palate.  It would work sweetly for a bright birthday card.  I chose a stamp set today that I've been itching to ink up; but hadn't had the right moment yet -- today's challenge is it!

 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  Today's card is cut from our 100 lb Whisper White cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" - a top fold vertical card.  The background layers is created with a piece of designer paper "stolen" from a DCWV paper stack called "The Primrose Stack."  This is a beautiful beautiful stack of designer paper that I actually picked up (I think at Hobby Lobby) specifically for the work I'm doing with my mother on a Heritage album we're creating.  It is matted with a piece of Tangerine Tango cardstock, and just works beautifully with this color scheme, and gives me a nice "vintage" background.  I wrapped the layer in Calypso Coral 1/2" seam binding ribbon and Venetian Crochet ribbon trim.  Although this is a slightly different color from Tangerine Tango, it blends beautifully and just works!

• Focal Points.  I have several focal points on this card -- all using the fabulous fun new host set - Love You Sew.  I knew the minute I saw this new set in the 2016 Spring Occasions catalog, that I absolutely HAD to have it!!  It's right up my alley with all the sewing and crafting I do.  I had a lot of fun creating these little vignettes on this card today -- multiple focal points with special little details, whether it's the fussy cut scissors and thread, the lines of "stitching", the punched little buttons, or all my favorite little pearl accents.  I even took the time to use some natural starch and "crunch" my ribbon tails.

 

 

This is a fabulous card to send someone who you want to encourage, or thanks, or just let them know how awesome they are.  There are so many wonderful little sentiments in this stamp set --  be sure to look at the back page of the 2016 Occasions Catalog, and check it out.

 

 

And yes, before anyone asks -- I really do own thread that practically match the colors in today's color challenge -- LOL.  That's what happens when you're a quilter!

With Sympathy ~

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

TGIF!  I am quite glad this week is actually over.  I have a fair amount to get done this weekend; however, I am looking for some peace and quiet this weekend as well.  Hopefully Miss Sadie and I can get outdoors this weekend.  We are having one of our common "quiet" Februaries here in Colorado -- the weather is moderate, almost springlike, and the cold and snow is at a minimum.  Of course, we may pay for it in March!

 

It's Mojo Monday [MOJO434] challenge time.  This week's design came about out of necessity.  In fact, this week has been quite difficult for me.  I received word at 1:20 pm Monday afternoon that a very dear, sweet friend of mine had passed away earlier that morning.  I was shocked - stunned would be more appropriate.  I knew she had received a cancer diagnosis in November; but she had been so positive about everything, felt confident that she would beat this, and indicated her doctors felt the same.  Reality is, that it was not the cancer that killed her.  Rather, something went suddenly, and terribly wrong, and she slipped into a coma on the previous Thursday, and was taken off life support on Sunday evening.  I was not aware this had take place; it all happened to so fast.  I have not known how to feel or react all week.  I knew as the week came to a close that I needed to be thinking of a Sympathy card for the family.  I decided that my last final act and gift for my beautiful friend would be to create a very special Sympathy card for her family; what perhaps I could not do for her in life, I will try to do for her family in her passing.

 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  This card is cut from our "thick" Whisper White cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" - a top fold vertical card.  The background layers are Watermelon Wonder, and Mossy Meadow, which has been embossed with the Large Polka Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The small rectangle is Whisper White with a piece of Birthday Bouquet Designer Series Paper.  I'll bet that one caught you by surprise!  I wrapped those layers with a piece of Watermelon Wonder 1" stitched satin ribbon. 

• Sympathy Rose Garden.  I used the Rose Garden Thinlits dies to create the "circular" elements of this design sketch today.  They are cut from some of the Birthday Bouquet DSP; giving me the variegated printed look to the cutouts.   They are attached with the Fine-Tip Glue Pen, and then trimmed at the edges to match the edge of the card front.  I used the smaller flower in the die set for my "pop" flower, and parts snipped from the rose thinlet to create the leaves.  An antique brad holds my two little cut-out flowers together and attach to the leaf bundle with glue dots.  The lovely sentiment is from the Rose Wonder stamp set, stamped in Mossy Meadow on Whisper White and cut with the coordinated framelit from the die set.

• Turn to the Inside.  The inside of this card is stamped both upper and lower portions as you open it and look at it.  The sentiments from the Rose Garden stamp set are so fabulous, and sometimes it's hard to decide on just one.  So I didn't -- I used both the sentiments I wanted.  I also stamped the large rose and leaf image from the stamp set, using a little bit of a "rock-n-roll" technique with Watermelon Wonder and Mossy Meadow inks, then stamping off once before stamping it as a "background" in the card.  What I like about today's color combination is it's not "dreary" and yet it isn't too bright.  I didn't want a "sad" card -- but I did want it to be elegant and respectful.

 

I hope you have enjoyed this design today and that it will inspire you.  I need to work a coordinated envelope and get this out to the family shortly.  I may make another sympathy card later, as the Memorial Service itself will not be for several weeks, and I'd like to have another card when we gather for that.  I also realized I have a friend whose father just went into hospice and will be slipping away soon -- so I'm going to have to come up with another sympathy card for her.  Seems like all of a sudden it's just a "bad time" around here.  Not a card I need often; but all of a sudden . . . guess it comes in cycles.

Thursday Change-Up - Sweet Valentine Treats!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

Happy Thursday!  Another very fast week has whizzed by us!  I keep thinking about everything I have on my "to do list."  I hope that I can get some of this tackled through the weekend ahead.  Plus, we are experiencing some absolutely beautiful early Spring weather here in Colorado; so it would be nice if Miss Sadie and me could get out and enjoy the sunshine and warmth throughout the weekend!  The snow has melted quickly now, so playing in the outdoors should be much easier now!

 

Valentine's Day is about upon us; and as I was debating about something fun to post up for today's blog post, I realized suddenly that, eeeeek, today is my last day at work this week, and if I wanted to do a little something special for my co-workers, I'd better get on it now!!  And as I was checking in with my Pals demonstrator group, I saw someone else had apparently been thinking the same thing.  Taking a page from my fellow Pal, I went and dug out a Paper Pumpkin kit from last year at this time.  In fact, I have to admit this was one of my favorite Paper Pumpkin kits.  I even ordered an extra refill because I loved it so much.  I love the shiny, gold designer tags, the beautiful Blushing Bride and Gold baker's twine, the fabulous little gold clips, and the adorable stamp set.  The little treat bags are perfect for just little something for a friend. 

 

So down I sat with the cute contents of this kit, and decided to spruce it all up with some fun "extras" that were in my stash; some of these items weren't even available last year when this kit first came out -- like the fabulous Blushing Bride sequin trim.  I added fun little Gold metallic doilies as well.  I filled up my little treat bags with some sweet little goodies, and then got decorating away with layered tags made with both the fabulous contents from the kit as well as my additions; topped off with Rhinestones for extra glitter.

 

I hope you can see some of those fun details in these pics; and the cute way this stamp set stamps up these tags.

"CASE the Catty" -- February 2016 Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop

It's that time of the month -- when we forego Ask Wendy Wednesdays, and enjoy the Stampin' Pretty Pals monthly blog hop instead . . .  so here we go!!

 

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for February 2016. Thank you for stopping by today to take a look at our new 2016 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are CASE-ing a project shown in a current Stampin’ Up! catalog. After all, with the Annual, Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogs available right now, there is much inspiration to choose from. We hope you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from Tricia Chuba at ButterDish Designs from the line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  Either way, the full line-up will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects. 

 

CASE = Copy And Share Everything!  It's a fabulous way to re-create wonderful inspiration, especially for those moments when you just don't feel creative; or perhaps you're not feeling very crafty.  Stampin' Up! gives us the most wonderful catalogs full of beautiful samples meant exactly for this purpose.  CASEing does not have to be about copying the piece exactly to the last detail, however.  It can be a wonderful way to take inspiration, and then make it your own.  So either way, don't ever feel bad about CASEing that next wonderful design you see on Pinterest, or on Facebook.  That's what they're there for!!

 

My project today is inspired and CASE'd from page 22 of the 2016 Spring Occasions Catalog and uses the beautiful Blossom Bunch Punch. 

What a fabulous punch -- so much fun!!

The project on page 22 has drawn my eye every time I've paged through my catalog.  And the stamp set and punch are one of the bundles in my Top Ten My Favorite Things picks I posted up several weeks ago.

It seemed to me this was the perfect time to play with this set, and the inspiration from page 22.

 

This is easier than it looks -- I took a frame I had stashed away (it has a deeper rust brown coloring to the frame which I had used previously with a beautiful Fall Aspen grove picture).

I then did a very simple paint over of white craft paint; leaving it purposely light and somewhat translucent so that the original coloring of the frame would show through the opaque of the white to give a distressed look.

Then I pulled out the fun!! LOL  I tore some pieces of Timeless Elegance designer paper and then used Mod Podge to lay it down in scattered areas around the frame; and glossed the entire frame over than with Mod Podge.

Then using a thin art brush, I used black craft paint and added some "distressing" streaks to just give a little more effect.

 

Then I really started having fun !

I used a variety of Watermelon Wonder, Hello Honey, and Delightful Dijon inks and papers (as well as Very Vanilla),

stamping the flowers from the Grateful Bunch stamp set, and then punched all my flowers out with the Blossom Bunch Punch.  I even punched a few from the Timeless Elegance designer paper for a little bit of added interest.

I then pulled out my McGill paper flowers tool set and curved all my flowers.  They are soooo cute!!!!  LOL

 

Then, before I started laying down my flowers, I took some Linen thread, curled it around my fingers, and then laid it on the frame corner with Mod Podge.

I layered my flowers and laid them out, attached them with generous amounts of Mod Podge.  This allowed me to stand them up and create a 3D effect with the flowers.  In real life, may of these flowers actually sit up or tilt at different angles, giving a really fabulous look to this frame.  I just love it!!

Yes, the leaves were stamped on Old Olive paper, and then fussy cut, before being laid in the background of my design.  Everything is sealed off an covered with a coating of Mod Podge.  So not only does this attach and seal everything on, it gives everything a very nice shiny finish.

 

The upper left-hand corner of the frame showcases nicely the layers -- paper, thread, flowers; and how the Mod Podge makes everything glisten.

 

You can see I finished everything off with Pearl centers to my flowers.  And this little masterpiece is perfect for one of the first pictures I ever took with Miss Sadie when she was just 4 months old -- my sweet little Baby Girl!

This was such a fun and relaxing project.  I just so enjoyed simply creating and crafting this project!

As you can see, my project is "similar" but not identical to the project on page 22; and so it is a CASE that I made my own!

I'd encourage you to give CASEing a try; and remember, Stampin' Up! gave us all these beautiful project ideas in our catalogs for exactly this purpose!
