Happy Tuesday!!  Howy'all doin' this fine day??!!  Can you believe tomorrow is June?!  And that means, time is arriving for our transition from the "old" and into the "new."  We say good-bye to the fabulous 2015-2016 Annual Catalog, as well as the 2016 Spring Occasions catalog; and we step into the incredible new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog and Idea Book!  Are you ready for this??  I can hardly wait!  :-)  So let's pause and have our weekly chat and make sure everyone has rounded up all the goins' on at Stampin' Up!   Ready ?   . . .

 

  GOING, GOING, GONE!!  It's the FINAL DAY!!  Tonight at midnight, the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog will close its covers for the final time; along with the beautiful 2016 Spring Occasions catalog.  If there was still something on the Retiring List that you wishing you had grabbed, NOW is the time!!  I just did a double-check, and I'm very surprised at what is still available at this late date.  In year's past, most of our list has sold out by now.  So you got a reprieve! :-)  LOL  Stock up on your "must have's" yet today before it's too late.  We'll keep an eye on the Clearance Page later, but there are never any guarantees as to what will actually show up there or not.

IT'S TRANSITION DAY!  It's transition day, when we move from the "old" to the "new"; so some pertinent important information for you as you are getting that Wish List ready and your fingers in shape to start pushing keys on the computer.  DON'T stay up late!!  It won't do you any good!  At midnight tonight, our entire system will be shut down to make the transition from the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog to the new 2016-2017 Annual Catalog.  The system will not be up and working and available again until 3:00 am MT (5:00 am ET; 4:00 am CT).  So just go to bed, get some rest, get up a little bit early to put in your first order and enjoy your coffee before you head off to work for the day tomorrow morning :-)

A Pop of a Birthday!

 

Hello Fellow Stampers -

Today is Memorial Day in the US, when we remember and thank those who have died for our country.  I’m sure we have community members here at DDS Studios who have lost loved ones due to their heroic service.  I pray for God’s blessing and peace over you.  Thank you for your sacrifice!!

 

I'm coming to you late with today's post.  I've been a little behind all weekend with trying to recuperate from my oral surgery on Friday.  I was also a little bit busy today as well ~~  which I really wish I could have had a little quieter day and rested more.  Thankfully it's a "short" week -- with an Off-Friday looming, I only have 3 work days ahead of me.  What I'm noticing is that I wear out quickly since surgery the other day.  It can be frustrating. 

 

Anyway -- before Monday gets away on us, it's time for the Paper Players [PP297] challenge this week.  This week's challenge is a "tic-tac-toe" challenge, where you pick a combination of 3 items across, down, or diagonally on the tic-tac-toe grid.  Let's see if you can figure which direction I picked :-)

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology. Oh my!  I am going to have so much fun with this collection this summer, that's all I can say!! LOL  -- This card base is cut from Melon Mambo cardstock, 11" x 4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2".  The background mat is Basic Black.  The focal background is Whisper White which I played with -- first stamping the palm leaf in Versamark and embossing with gold embossing powder.  Then I pulled out that beautiful collection of Pop of Pink Designer Washi Tape, and went to town!!  How much fun!!    I don't use washi tape nearly enough in my designing; I just can't resist this collection and decided it was time to do something "outside the box."  I got a little cattywampus and didn't get them laid perfectly straight, which for a Type A like me can drive you nuts; but I decided I needed to "let go" and let it be.  It really doesn't show.  Wrapped with some Melon Mambo 3/8" stitched satin ribbon, the layers are adhered to the card front.
  

 

• Pop of Paradise.  I sure hope this stamp set is on your wish list.  It is so much fun!  I used the new Layering Squares Framelits, and created a off-set centerepiece, stamped with the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then stamped the flamingo in Melon Mambo on scrap Whisper White, and fussy cut that little guy out.  The square stack is popped with dimensionals; the Flamingo is also popped with dimensionals!!  Isn't he fun!?!  LOL  I added some Melon Mambo enamel dots from the It's My Party enamel dots package.  I adore how this turned out.

 

 

• Turn to the Inside.  The inside of this card is replication of the layers on the front, with one of the washi tapes run across the bottom.  Simple, sweet, easy -- and now you can add your Happy Birthday wishes in whatever way you feel is best!!

A Little Sunday Catch-Up ~~ Mojo Monday-style

 

Hello Fellow Stampers -

 

Wendy here with an unusual Sunday blog post for you!  But as I promised, we're playing some catch-up since I skipped Friday due to oral surgery.  I'm doing pretty well; although today I seem to feel a little more tired and light-headed; so I think it will be primarily a day of relaxing and rest.  I did spend some time in the studio earlier this morning though; it was nice to just play and design a little.  I got some inspiration for the Mojo Monday challenge design, and just couldn't wait to go work it out.

 

So indeed, here we are with Mojo Monday [MOJO449] challenge design today; I have combined this week's Mojo Monday challenge with the very popular Global Design Project [GDP037] challenge for the week as well.  The one is a sketch challenge; the other is a fabulous color challenge this week!  I'm very excited with how this turned out.  Let's play :-)

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  Today's card is all about textile design.  I love when the art of stamping integrates with my love of quilting.  The new Moroccan Nights stamp set is beautifully perfect for creating a "block" background that makes me think of designing and creating a quilt.  When designing a quilt it's all about the textile and layout, much as I've played with here today.   Often a block in a quilt will have a border between each block.  I butted these "blocks" up against each other. 
• This card is cut from Tip Top Taupe cardstock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"; with the fold to the top.  I have an Island Indigo background mat; and then a piece of Whisper White which is cut 3 1/2" x 5 1/4", and works as a stabilizer for my "block" layout.  These "blocks are created with the beautiful larger image in the Moroccan Nights stamp set, stamped with versamark on Island Indigo, Tip Top Taupe, and Mint Macaron cardstock, and then embossed with white embossing powder.  I then used the new Layering Squares framelits to cut the portions I wanted from each stamped image.  Tip: I first experimented and cut squares from plain scrap cardstock so I could work my layout and the correct size square.  Because this is a rectangular shape rather than a square card, it makes a difference in how you would work that layout correctly.  I used a piece of Island Indigo 1/4" cotton ribbon to lay across one "seam" of my layout (emulates the sketch for Mojo Monday).

 

• Laid "On Point".  My lantern focal point, oooo laaa laaa ~~  I'm in love.  I turned the square in the sketch "on point" today (a quilting term), and embossed this beautiful lantern image in the brand new Copper embossing powder.  Oh my!!  It is cut with the Layering Squares framelits as well, and matted with a little Tip Top Taupe.  Gorgeous!!  You should see this beautiful image in person!

• Thoughtful Banners.  The one word sentiment I felt was perfect for this card today!  Simple, and reflects how I felt when I created this design.  The banner and sentiment come from the new Thoughtful Banners stamp set, and is punched with the new Duet Banner Punch.  I punched a second banner from Vellum cardstock, and layered the two together.  The two pieces in the center of the card are popped with dimensionals.

 

 

• Turn to the Inside.  The inside of this card is stamped very simply with the border stamp from the Moroccan Nights stamp set in Mint Macaron.  Perfect for writing a special note to that special someone.  This card is perfect for "any occasion," whether you want to encourage, inspire, or just congratulate someone.

Simply Simple Saturdays - A Birthday, A Baby, and a Graduation!

 

Hello Fellow Stampers -

Happy Saturday!  Happy Memorial Day Weekend!  Yes, I made it through surgery, and the oral surgeon told me everything went extraordinarily well.  I am very relieved.  And although I'm somewhat "puffy" and sore, I'm not in a great deal of pain, and am not feeling too bad actually.  For which I am very relieved.  I'm not eating a whole lot; but hey, maybe I can lose some of this weight I wanted to lose -- LOL.

 

So, I haven't done a Simply Simple Saturdays post in quite awhile; since I basically skipped yesterday, I thought I'd pop in, give you all an update, and share some fun today.  I'm sharing a picture from garden this week with you today.  I have been so excited!!  I planted some Iris several years ago; but it takes a couple years before they actually bloom for you!  I have my very first Iris this year, and I'm just so excited!!  And they are just bursting out in full bloom as this week has gone.  The Peonies are going to pop any day now too.  They're a little late this year because we had such a cool Spring; but they're going to be beautiful when they do open.  And I have Lilac blooms this year too -- the first time for those too!  The Columbine are even peeking out at you a little over on the right-hand side!  It's a lavender garden this year -- LOL!

 

My sweet friend Kathy, came over to spend the afternoon with me today and kind of "baby" me a little.  She brought wonderful soup, some even more wonderful little cakes that were nice and soft and moist -- perfect for sore mouths.  And we sat and spent the afternoon in the Studio just chatting and making cards.  She had 3 events coming up on her very quickly and she asked if I would be willing to help her design 3 cards, 1 for each event.  I told her I'd be very happy to.  I'm sure it doesn't help that her entire craft room is totally packed in boxes right now while they undergo a remodel; so what fun to sit in my cozy Studio and play all afternoon.  I'm glad I felt well enough today to do this with her!!  Want to see what we made??  ;-)

 

A Birthday, A Baby, and A Graduation -- yes, it is that time of year for everyone I think!!  Fun! Exciting! and Hectic!  Whenever someone asks me to help design a card for them, I always ask some pertinent questions about the person to whom the card will be presented.  Let's start backwards . . . with the Graduation :-)

 

I asked about the college the young lady who will be receiving this attended; in particular I wanted to know about the school colors.  Kathy didn't know the school colors, but knew she had attended New York University.  So I went online to check it all out!

 

So NYU's colors are basically purple.  And the minute I saw this "insignia" I thought, huh, we can replicate that.  So we did.  I used the wing from the Bird Builder punch (retiring next week) to create the little flames, and we basically hand cut the torch handle part.  I put the card together with Elegant Eggplant, and accented with Silver Foil, for the "2016" and the matting.  Those Large Number framelits are pretty wonderful!  You must have a set!!

 

And pulled out the B.Y.O.P. and Suite Sayings stamp sets to put together the sentiments for the inside of the card, also stamped and matted in Elegant Eggplant.

 

What do you think of that??  :-)  I thought it was pretty ingenious myself!

 

Then we tackled the baby card next.  I pulled out the sweet Made With Love set, and with a little inspiration from Pinterest, created this card.

Kathy had not seen the new In Colors yet, and was so excited when I laid them out for her, that she immediately, said -- these!  I want these two for this card.

So we used Flirty Flamingo and Sweet Sugarplum, and made a sweet little baby card.  I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

There are a couple soon retiring items on this card, like the Heart Border Punch, and the Scallop circle punch.  If you don't have these yet, get them purchased before next Tuesday night.  After that -- they will be gone forever!

 

Here is the inside of this sweet card, stamped and matted in Flirty Flamingo; and a little bird in Daffodil Delight ;-)

 

Lastly we tackled a birthday card for her sister-in-law.  I pulled out the Birthday Blooms and the Botanical Builder thinlits set for this card.

Her sister-in-law loves yellow, so I used Daffodil Delight here with an accent of Peek-a-boo Peach and just a touch of Crumb Cake.  This card really turned out beautiful and I know her sister-in-law will love it.  We lined all the envelopes using the Envelope Liners thinlits.  Don't miss out on these -- they are retiring sadly, and these really are a "must have" for your inventory!!

 

So, there you go -- a little relaxed Saturday fun!  We had such a good time; and I'm grateful she was here to spend some time with me and "nurse" me a little.  It makes this healing time go a little more easily to have such good friends!

 

I'm hoping to still have a Mojo Monday design for you by tomorrow; so cross your fingers.  Miss Sadie and I have had a little walk on this absolutely gorgeous Spring afternoon; and now I really must take a nap as I finally am feeling pretty worn out.  A wonderful Saturday to all of you!!

Friday Break

I hope you won't mind, but with the stress of surgery weighing on me for this morning, and a number of other items going on in my life, I have decided to take a break from the blog for a little bit here.  If I feel up to it, we'll try to do the Mojo Monday challenge design a little later this weekend!  And I'll give you an update on how things went today!
