Good Morning Fellow Stampers :-)
Thursday has arrived! And with it, almost the end of the work week for me. Unfortunately my Friday will not be doing anything fun! I know I've mentioned briefly in the past couple months that I have a tooth that has been bothering me, actually pretty badly. We've been trying to figure out what is wrong, and have had a fair amount of trouble getting to the root cause. This tooth has been a thorn in my side for 3 years - including a crown, crown lengthening surgery, and a root canal. Turns out, from the time they performed the crown lengthening surgery, the life span of the tooth shrank to 3 years or less. And sure enough, it was 3 years in January and this tooth began to hurt. We believe there is a crack deep underneath the surface, and cracked teeth cause a great deal of pain over time. So on Friday morning, I will be going in for oral surgery -- a tooth extraction and the beginning of an implant. I am not thrilled to say the least. It is not going to be a fun weekend!! sigh . . . .
Soooooooo -- We're going to have some fun to end the week; and then I'll be having a quiet weekend trying to recuperate! So here we go :-) One last hurrah, I'm calling this because I want to focus one last time on some retiring products. Today's stamp set is one that I really feel got overlooked in the Spring Occasions catalog; and it's unfortunate because it really is cute as a button.
Apple of My Eye is the stamp set I'm using today! Cute, cute, cute!
And today's design was inspired by several demos, including the fabulous Dawn Griffith.
I also touched on the Bokeh Technique today. This is a technique I've been telling myself I'd play around with for awhile now. Can't figure out why it's taken me so long. It's easy, and the visual impact is fabulous!!
I'm also using several soon retiring In Colors in today's designs as well -
In this card I'm featuring Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist. I often forget how much I actually like these colors until I start using them.
These cards are cut 4 1/2" x 11", scored at 4 1/4".
The background mat piece is Whisper White cut 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".
Then the side panel is what I refer to as "created" background. In this case, the Bokeh Technique -- this is easy folks!
I sponged a piece of 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" Whisper White cardstock with Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist ink, completely covering the entire piece so no white would be showing.
I then used a piece of Vellum cardstock, punched various size circles in it with my circle punches, and then using Craft Whisper White ink, I sponged those circles using my template, moving it around to get a varied pattern and the Bokeh look. I love it :-)
That piece was then cut into two pieces (because I'm going to make multiple cards), sized 2 1/2" x 5 1/4".
A background mat was cut, in this case from Tangelo Twist, at 2 5/8" x 5 3/8".
[This card uses Hello Honey and Cucumber Crush, with some Mint Macaron mixed in]
The cup is easy to make - so don't get too nervous! ;-)
Take a piece of Whisper White cardstock, and one of Vellum; cut them 2" x 4".
Gently score a notch on each of the "bottom" of the cut a 1/2" from the side edge.
Then line the top of the piece and the score on your Stampin' Trimmer, so that you cut at an angle at each side. [Score line to top edge of piece]. Your two pieces should match, because you'll be adhering the Vellum to the Whisper White piece in a little bit.
Sponge ink on the "backside" of your Vellum "cup" (this one I made to be a "margarita" ;-) ). I layered color several times, allowing it to dry inbetween, so I would get a nice brilliant color. I actually started this one with Mint Macaron because I was purposely going for a more Margarita-style drink; but then I went a little darker in color because I really wanted it to show up on the card.
Place your "straw" before you layer the vellum over the matching whisper white cardstock. Use glue dots only in the lower right-hand corner, and in the upper left. You will be covering these two spots with your lemon/lime wedges and this conceals the glue dots.
When you place your wedge at the top of the glass, adhere it on the backside with a dimensional, then add more dimensionals before adhering to the card front.
It was getting late when I was working on these, and so I missed one final detail that I really wanted to do; using a 2-way glue pen, add a thin strip of glue around the top edge of the rim of your glasses, and then sprinkle on Dazzling Diamonds glitter. :-) Fun!
My Lemons and Limes were punched out with the 1 3/4" circle punch, and then I either cut in half, or cut a slit depending upon what I needed.
Leaves were all fussy cut!
You can even add wedges and leaves on the inside of your card -- so cute!!
I really love how these came out! If you missed this stamp set near the back of our Spring Occasions catalog, don't wait!! In a few short days this catalog will be closing and this set will be gone! It is just such a cute set with so many options; get yours today before it's too late!! I hope you have enjoyed today's design; and if I get a chance I'll try to do a little "how to" video for this cute card!
