Good Morning Fellow Stampers -
Happy Monday!! Time to kick off another week! Another busy one around here for sure! I bought several flats of Impatience over the weekend, and now it's time to get them planted! The weather has definitely slipped in "summertime mode." Another couple weeks and it will be "officially" summer and I'm hoping to find some time to actually enjoy the outdoors and some fun activities.
I always cringe and get a little squeamish when one of my challenge groups decides to do a Father's Day theme. Although Dad has been gone 7 years now from cancer, Father's Day continues to be a difficult time, and one I'd rather avoid. Unfortunately, it is a time of year that comes around whether I want it to or not. So here we are, and indeed this week the Paper Players [PP298] challenge this week pulled a Father's Day theme for their challenge. So I took a deep breath, combined their challenge with the Global Design Project [GDP038] challenge, and headed for the Studio.
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Layerothology. This card is cut from Very Vanilla cardstock, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4". The background layers are Night of Navy and Soft Suede (cut 5 3/8" x 4 1/4", and 5 1/4" x 4" respectively). I overlaid this with a piece of Very Vanilla cut 5" x 3 3/4" and embossed with the Boho Chic textured impressions embossing folder. Did you realize this had carried forward into the new catalog? Although the coordinated stamp set and designer paper is retired, this wonderful embossing folder carries on! It was perfect for a more masculine background for this card. I gently sponged it with Crumb Cake to create a "vintaged" look to the card.
- In the Meadow. This lovely stamp set was introduced in the 2016 Spring Occasions catalog. It reminds me so much of our Rocky Mountains around our beautiful state, and of course of my Father. He loved our mountains! By setting the mountains in the "background," and stamping the groves of Aspen trees to the "foreground," I created my gentle summer scene -- the perfect backdrop for my sentiment from the Suite Sayings stamp set. The trees are hand-stippled with Cucumber Crush stampin' write marker, and the grass around the trees is both stamped and colored/drawn in. I snuck in a few "retired" items here such as the Bitty Banners framelits for my sentiment; and the beautiful Gold Metallic button with the Linen Thread. I was sad to lose some of these items with the closure of the 2015-2016 Annual, and am holding onto my Bitty Banners for now ;-)
- Turn to the Inside. The inside of this card emulates the layers from the front. The wonderful detains are what make the finishing touch for this card. I brought in a little bit of something new with the Swirly Scribbles thinlits Night of Navy piece laid with Linen Thread behind the sentiment. Wonder where I got that sentiment from? I "borrowed" it from the exclusive stamp set from the May Paper Pumpkin Kit, Many Manly Occasions. You really should not be missing out on these kits -- they are incredible; just the stamp sets alone are worth the subscription. To get this month's kit, get Signed Up by June 10th.
Now here's the special deal today -- I am going to give away this card to one of YOU. If you would like a chance to win this card, leave me a comment on my blog today; tell me about the special Dad in your life. I will be taking a random drawing from all commenters on Friday, and will send this card off to the lucky recipient on Saturday so they can have it in time for Father's Day on the 19th of June. I hope that whomever you intend to give it to will enjoy it! It is from my heart in memory of my Father ~~ I look forward to reading your comments!
Have a wonderful Monday everyone!
Until Next Time . . .
