Halloween Night Spooky Fun for Mojo Monday!

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers :-)

TGIF indeed!  It's my off-Friday; but I'm off to the office for a few hours this morning anyway; then I'm hoping to spend some time with my sweetie at the Pumpkin Festival and Corn Maze at the Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms ~~  one of my favorite places to visit in the Fall ;)  We'll see how the schedule goes, as I also have a Fall card class to prep for tomorrow afternoon.  So lots and lots going on around here this weekend.

 

It's Mojo Monday [MOJO468] challenge time.  I have come to realize that I put a fair amount of time and work into my Mojo Monday designs.  It seems like these sketches sing to me more than most.  I also thought I was moving away from Halloween -- LOL; but I guess not.  I'm just giggling at myself.  And I had so much fun with today's design.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I can tell I'm just not ready to walk away from all these fun stamp sets and dies just yet.  And this one is just so much fun!

Today's card base is actually Pumpkin Pie, cut 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2".

And today's background is a "created" background.  In other words, I made it myself.

I used a piece of Very Vanilla and using a splatter technique, I splattered the background in Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie inks.

 

I bought this little tool quite some years go.  It is intended specifically for a "splatter" technique in your card and paper crafting.  It is fun and easy!

 

I chose an orange and green combination for something different.  I love the freshness of these colors together :-)

I stamped the "drips" from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set in Old Olive, and set a piece of designer series paper from the Halloween Night SDSP lined up over it.

The top edge of the DSP is wrapped in Halloween Night Designer Washi Tape before being placed on the card base front.

 

Now the fun really begins ;-)

This piece of Very Vanilla cardstock was sponged with Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, and Rich Razzleberry ink.

I used a 1 3/8" circle punched from X-Press It Mask It to create a spot for my moon; then after lifting the mask, I added a little Crushed Curry ink sponged lightly over the moon, creating some dimension to the moon by creating darker areas.  I adore this background.

 

But the foreground pieces cut from the Halloween Scenes Edgelits make this entire card!!  I absolutely love this die set!

This entire piece is matted with Old Olive cardstock and popped with dimensionals over linen thread on the card front.

 

The finishing touch is the little tag created with the sentiment from the stamp set; by carefully inking each section of the sentiment with the Basic Black stampin' write marker, you can realign the sentiment to fit inside this cute little tag.

I cut a second tag in Basic Black, put the two together, and tied them with linen thread before popping them on the card front.

Sooooo cute!!

 

You can make the inside of your card just as adorable as the outside with this same stamp set!

Trick or Treat!

We're nearly to the end of the week.  And you probably noticed there was no blog post yesterday.  Although I arrived home on Tuesday evening, it was just too late by the time I got the car unloaded, and everything unpacked and put away to start designing a card for the Paper Players challenge.

 

 

But as I promised on Monday, we are slipping in a "late" post entry for the Paper Players [PP315] challenge for this week.  Now I had an idea swirling around in my brain; in the end, I'm not sure this totally was the direction I wanted to go with this.  Sometimes, simplifying comes out of necessity.  I think I would term this a CAS (Clean and Simple) design, but done in black ;)

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  This card base is cut from Basic Gray cardstock, 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" - a top fold vertical card.  I then created a mat layer from Perfect Plum cardstock, 5 3/8" x 4 1/8".  This is overlaid with a piece of Basic Black cardstock embossed with the Woodland textured impressions embossing folder.

 

• Spooky Fun.  Ahhhhhhhh -- pull out that Craft White ink pad, and let's have a little fun ;-)  These fun spooky "eyes" are from the Spooky Fun stamp set and peak out from my dark Halloween forest with a shimmery grin ;-)  How, you say?  Why I dabbed Clear Wink of Stella over the stamped images after they were dry.  I wrapped the layers with Elegant Eggplant Solid Baker's Twine before adhering it to the card base front.  The cute little sentiment from the stamp set is punched out with the Classic Label Punch and popped up with dimensionals.
• Hint Tip:  Put a piece of Whisper White cardstock on the inside of your card, then stamp it with more fun images and another sentiment from this cute stamp set, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

 

 

Now this really did turn out a little bit simpler than I had originally planned; but then, when you're just back from vacation, and have a lot on the platter, LOL  I really do hope you all don't mind this turned out this CAS.  I actually had planned on a more "panel" design -- but it just ended up not going that direction.  I do think this stamp set is really cute, and there are so many things you could do with it.  By the way, this textured impressions embossing folder is still so popular a year after it was introduced, that it is once again on backorder -- can you believe that??  ;-)

A Little Vacation Break!

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers -

Hello from the beautiful Vail Valley of Colorado!  We have had a gloriously gorgeous weekend.  The temperatures have been in the upper sixties, sunshine, and beautiful blue Colorado skies.  You could not ask for a better scenario.  Mother and I have been enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery.

Yesterday we decided to take a little drive into the Beaver Creek resort area, Avon, and around the Vail area.  It was just so gorgeous.  And although we are past peak on the Aspen trees, there are still a fair amount of trees still standing and some even still turning, and so it is still quite beautiful around here.  A change in the weather is in the air, and we expect most of this to be down by mid-week, and even some snow to be on the ground.  The first chill of winter is in the air.  We are excited that we got lucky with the weather and the views since our little trip got scheduled so late in the season.

 

This trip away is also a little bit of a scrapbooking trip for Mom and me.  It's a perfect time and place to spread out everything for the Heritage Album we are working on.

 

For the first time we are attacking this project from a slightly different angle.  It's been somewhat of a struggle these past couple years, dealing with the old pictures and albums from the grandparents and trying to figure out what we have, and timelines, sequences and groupings.  So taking advantage of the space and opportunity, we are going through all the old photos first, taking apart the old albums, sorting what we want and don't want, and laying everything out so we can make a plan.  Our poor book was getting too convoluted as we came across pictures in grandma's album that were out-of-sequence in the timeline and should have been input into the album in earlier pages and spreads that were already done.  When that happens, it can create chaos.

 

 

 

Mom has been working hard; and we've calling some of the last living relatives as we have questions about family members and events.

 

Working on Uncle Willie's military photo page has been one of my favorite's so far.

Uncle Willie was drafted into the Army in 1942, and was honorably discharged after World War II was over in 1946.

What a special page this has turned out to be.

 

We've been eating like queens while we're here; mom has been teasing me that I brought the whole kitchen with me, but I think she's enjoying being spoiled.

Last night we had a pork roast, with new potatoes and carrots, corn on the cob, a fresh salad, sparking carmel apple juice in the stemware, and chocolate marble cheesecake for dessert.  I won't even tell you what else we've been eating -- we're going to be fat!!!!  LOL

 

Traveling as a card designer can be difficult; as you know today is normally the Paper Players challenge design post day.  I tried to plan for a card design for today, bringing a number of stamp sets I thought I wanted to feature, cardstock colors, inks, etc., along with me.  And then PP revealed this week's challenge yesterday morning and I just sat down and laughed.  Best laid plans and all . . . this week's challenge is a "Halloween Theme" challenge - and that's exactly everything I did not bring with me!  LOL

 

Sooooooooooo -  we'll play PP after I get back home; and I decided instead today to just share our lovely time away with all of you and take a break.  I hope you have enjoyed my little blog post today :)  We are off to Breckenridge for a little while today and then more scrapbooking.
