Suite Sentiments for the Paper Players ~

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

Whew -- what a weekend!  I think I need to take today off just to catch my breath -- LOL :-)  We had our Annual Stamp-A- Stack on Saturday.  We had a full house and some very busy stampers.  When you make 25 cards in six hours, you are definitely busy!  I'll be sharing more about the cards from this past Saturday on my Facebook page; and hopefully, if all goes well, we'll have a Class With Wendy video this week showcasing one of the designs, so you can all play too!!  :-)

 

 

It's time to play with the Paper Players [PP333] this week, and what a cute sketch design we have today!  I really think there's a lot of things you can do with this design, and I certainly had some fun coming up with an idea to play with. I hope you'll like it!

Today's color combination is inspired by the Cupcakes & Carousels DSP Stack, one of my very favorite papers from this Spring Occasions catalog. 

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerotholgy.  This card is cut from Thick Whisper White cardstock, 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2" - a top fold vertical card.  I layered Bermuda Bay matting with Whisper White overlay embossed with the Elegant Dots TIEF, for a lovely "lacy" background.  The layers are wrapped in 1/8" Bermuda Bay stitched ribbon before being adhered to the front of the card base.

 

• More Than Meets the Eye.  Are you looking at those beautiful "medallion-like" circles and wondering where those came from?  I'll bet you might not guess.  But I challenge you to pull out one of our new Lace Doilies and take a closer look! :-)

 

Snipping at different intersections and separating out, for example, this delicate center area of the doily, will give you a whole different look - and look at how versatile and how much use you have gotten out of that doily now!  You could use the remaining outer circle in a whole different project!

Don't be scared to think outside the box :-)

 

I used the 1-3/4" circle punch and "fussy-punched" some medallions from one of the papers in the Cupcakes & Carousels collection. 

They work perfectly for this little project.

Just put a little bit of SNAIL in the center of the doily to attach it, and then lay the large pearl over the center "hole".  Works perfectly!

These are popped with dimensionals!

 

 

• Suite Sentiments.  I really like this sentiment from the Suite Sentiments stamp set.  Even more fun, I inked it using the Bermuda Bay Ombre ink pad -- so it has a lovely ombre effect, darker to the left, lighter to the right -- It gives the effect of fading from left to right with the stronger tone closer to the Bermuda Bay edging peaking out from behind the Stitched Shapes square, and lighter toward my little doily circles.

You're In My Thoughts for Mojo Monday!

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

TGIF!!  And it is an off-Friday for me; and winter has returned to the front-range of Colorado.  So much so that we had a "flash freeze" and a blizzard start right at rush hour last night -- and what is normally a 10 minute commute for me between work and home turned into an hour and 20 minutes!!  It was unreal!  So this morning Sadie Ann and I are snug as bugs at home and I'm finally working on today's blog post and projects in the Studio; drinking coffee, watching The Mary Tyler Moore show -- LOL   It's all good!

 

 

It's time to play with the Mojo Monday [MOJO485] challenge this week.  We have a cute little sketch today that I think can be used in so many ways, and sparks creativity.  I had some fun with this -- and our fabulous Avant Garden Sale-A-Bration stamp set.  Yes, there is some fussy cutting involved ;-)  LOL

 I picked a sweet and classic color combination for this week's design.  I was inspired by another photo for this combo . . .

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  This card base is cut from Basic Black cardstock, 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4" - a top fold horizontal card.  The background layering of this card is created with Blushing Bride, Basic Black, and a piece of Playful Palette DSP, which has a 1" Blushing Bride edge/border attached to it.  I carefully picked this piece because I love the Very Vanilla dots in it, and I thought it was the perfect subtle background to my focal point!
  

 

• Avant Garden Meets Thoughtful Branches.   Remember that wonderful beautiful stamp set from last Fall ??  Thoughtful Branches had the perfect sweet sentiment combination for this card design.  I cut a 2" x 4" Very Vanilla strip, angled my sentiment and kept it "soft" with Blushing Bride ink, and punched the piece using the Banner Triple Punch.   I purposely didn't push the strip all the way into the punch because I didn't want to shorten it too much; and you get a little different effect to your tips if you back it off a little -- note the squared blunt ends :-)  Experimenting with your tools can be fun!!  Those Avant Garden blooms are stamped in Blushing Bride ink, lightly watercolored in the center using an AquaPainter and some Flirty Flamingo ink; and then the stamen are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The little leaves are stamped in Tip Top Taupe for a soft color blend.  They are all attached with glue dots - my favorite "go-to" adhesive!!

• Turn to the Inside.   The inside of this card finishes out the start of the sentiment on the front - "You're In My Thoughts" - . . . "And Always In My Heart".  It's a sweet card for a friend, or works well for a sympathy card -- one of those cards we don't like to make, but is necessary!  The echoed stamping of the flower and leaves coordinates the front to the inside.  And I love the Tip Top Taupe -- isn't not as harsh as a gray or black; but blends well with the black cardstock and keeps things feeling "warm" in the color family.

Thursday Change-Up - A Cool Treat Birthday!

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

 Happy Thursday.  It's time for my next installment of the "sneak peak" of the birthday cards my group will be making this coming Saturday at the Annual Birthday Stamp-a-Stack.  We're going to take a turn from yesterday's masculine birthday and we're going to create some fun, summery and just for the kids!

 

Today's card design is a little simple, and geared for a young tween or teenager.

 

I played a little bit, and discovered that that our Layering Ovals framelits fit PERFECTLY inside the oval created with the Confetti textured impressions embossing folder.

Isn't that "cool"!!  (LOL - pun intended!)

I took some of the extra layering out of this design that I might normally do, and cut one 4-1/4" x 5-3/8" piece for my embossing folder and am allowing the ice cream sundae to be the focal point of this card with the simple fun background to set it off.

Stitched Shape Framelits and a scalloped Layering Oval make the perfect background for my cute sundae.

 

I used a Pool Party card base; and Tangerine Tango for the background oval.

The ice cream bowl is cut from Early Espresso; and my cute ice cream scoops are Cucumber Crush, Flirty Flamingo and Daffodil Delight, with a Chocolate Chip chocolate coating (mmmmmm - almost good enough to eat).

A few rhinestones for "sprinkles", a silver foil spoon, and a strip of Party Animal Washi Tape on the bowl - look how cute this is!!!

I knew when I started playing with this set I was going to love it!!!

 

Now the neat thing about the sentiment on the front of this card is that it's really pretty "generic."

You could use this card as a note of encouragement for your child, or to congratulate them on a job well done (how about that "A" in math class ?)

Or, as in this case, it's a birthday card!

How fun is this?

I used the sprinkles image in the Cool Treats stamp set to create some "fun" around the sentiment inside the card.

Using the different images in your stamp sets can help you create a fun and easy look to the inside of your cards.

They don't need to be bland or boring -- remember that!  Kind of like my mantra for envelopes ("no naked envelopes").

Masculine Up & Away Birthday ~

Hump Day here we are!!  Another very busy week half over; and today I'm bringing you a third installment "sneak peak" of one of the cards that my group will be making at this coming weekend's Birthday Stamp-a-Stack!  Now, as I give each of these installments (one last Thursday, one this past Monday, another on Thursday this week), keep your eyes peeled, because one of these designs will be showcased in next week's virtual Class With Wendy tutorial video.  You won't want to miss out on which one I pick!

 As one of my customers recently commented, a masculine card can be one of the most difficult to design; especially for us "feminine" creators that like all things vintage and pretty.  Today's card is specifically designed to fill this niche - a vintage distressed card masculine birthday card using the Lift Me Up Bundle.  This color combination is really terrific for this purpose and works well for a masculine "distressed" card.

 

The card base for this card is cut from Night of Navy cardstock.

Background layering is cut from Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake.

You'll notice a "different" cut to this card.  I pulled these layers in a full 1" from the edge to give a nice wide outside border.

It's a "strong" look and I like the boldness it gives the card.

 

The Crumb Cake background to this card has been very carefully "created" using the Timeless Textures stamp set, and one of the "cloud" images from the Lift Me Up stamp set.

By using the different images in the same Crumb Cake ink, stamping off and randomly, a nice distressed background is created.

The "splatters" are versamarked and dusted with Copper embossing powder.  I intentionally left behind any remaining embossing powder that clung to the recently inked clouds or other images, and embossed them in right along with the "splatters" to give the card a really cool distressed effect.

The layers were very simply wrapped with a piece of Linen Thread and Night of Navy solid bakers twine before attaching to the card front.

 

These little hot air balloons are layered just so across the front of the card.

With no other embellishment or sentiment, you really could use this design for any occasion.

 

I really do adore this stamp set - I love the sentiments, and the adorable little images.

Don't you love the inside of this card?  Perfection!!
