Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~
Thursday here we are!! With a change in the beautiful weather we've having on the horizon. Guess it will be a cooler weekend ahead. That's alright -- the Colorado Garden & Home Show kicks off this weekend and I plan to spend it with my honey sniffing the Tulips and getting a little bit of an early shot of Spring :-)
It's my Change-Up Thursday time of the week, and today I'm going to share with you a very special card that was supposed to have been the "bonus" card for my class attendees last Saturday; but none of them got their projects done in time! LOL That's okay! I keep these stampers quite busy when they are here! And we had a full and fun Valentine-themed class for sure! I think you will enjoy this card today. It's different; and it's really pretty!
Looking for a soft and sweet palate? This would be it!! And perfect for a Springtime "in love" kind of design. It also mimics the colors you will find in the Falling In Love designer series paper collection - one of my top picks for this catalog!!
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Layerothology. As I said, this is a very "different" sort of card. Nothing standard going on here. The main part of this card sits on a base of Sahara Sand cardstock, cut 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". Period -- that's it! It's not a folded base, or anything like that. You cut one piece of cardstock as your base. Then we are going to layer on top of that and create a "partial" folded card on top! So - Sahara Sand, cut 5-1/2" x 4-1/4"; next layer is Soft Suede, cut 4" x 5-1/4".
On top of those two layers we are going to place a piece of Whisper White cardstock that is cut 5-3/4" x 5-1/8" - and the score ends up at 3-7/8"; but I'm going to teach you how to do this a better way . . . . ready? Cut a typical piece of Whisper White cardstock - 5-1/2" x 8-1/2", and place the score at 4-1/4" like normal. Fold on your score line and burnish. Place your score line at the top (like you were creating a top-fold horizontal card), and place the left edge of the folded cardstock on the 5-1/8" mark, and trim off the right-hand side in your Stampin' Trimmer. Now, open up the card, and placing one end at the 2" mark, trim.
You will be left with a piece of cardstock that has a "short" front side (just shy of 2" should remain up to your score line). Now the fun begins :-) Before you adhere that to your base layers we just created, we're going to add the pretty "delicate" strip.
- So Detailed In Blushing Bride. The beautiful So Detailed Thinlits are a set you don't want to miss in this Occasions Catalog. There are 3 different pieces to this set, and each one is unique and really beautiful. I used the curved floral detail thinlit in this set. When you cut this out, you will notice that you get a thin "bar" on one end. Use this to your advantage for this card. Glue this straight edge strip of the die to the front edge of your cut Whisper White cardstock. I then laid a 1/4" x 5-1/8" strip of Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper over this edge; and then a second strip the same length and width is laid right where the flowers start curving (use your multi-purpose tombow glue for all this adhering). Then I trimmed off the remaining cutout that stuck beyond my Blushing Bride strip. A piece of Window Sheet cut 1-3/8" x 5-1/8" was glued on the backside. Now when you are finished you have what I'm calling a "half-front" card design. There's about 3/4" between the bottom of the thinlit strip and the bottom of the Whisper White cardstock. When this is attached to the layered base we created earlier, it's a really cool and different effect. The window sheet/cutout just gives you a glimpse of what is stamped or written behind it. And you can write below too; it's okay!! I give you permission :-) LOL
- So In Love. You'll notice that I have stamped just above the top Blushing Bride strip. In Sahara Sand, stamped off once first, is the floral image from the set; and then stamped over it in full strength Soft Suede is the simple sentiment "Congratulations." Add a few pearls, and the front of this card is complete.
- Turn to the Inside. The sentiment on the inside of this card is from the Love Sparkles stamp set - another fabulous set with a really cool font and some wonderful sentiments. I stamped in Versamark and embossed with Blushing Bride embossing powder (another retired item I'm glad I held onto!). It's the perfect coordinated look for the front of this card. You'll notice that because of how this card is put together, I don't have to add any extra "matting" for the inside of the card as it's already set against the matted base we created.
- Don't Forget the Envelope. No naked envelopes as I say! The flap of this envelope has a piece of Falling In Love designer series paper on it to coordinate beautifully with the card; and the front of the card was stamped and embossed to match the card with another wonderful sentiment set from the Love Sparkles stamp set. Just perfection!! Don't you love it?
This has been so much fun to share with you today; and I'm hoping I've given enough detail and instruction that you could go off and make the card yourself if you wanted to. Give it a try; I think you'll love this very different card and card front. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions about my designs or Stampin' Up! products. I'll get back with you as soon as I can.
Happy Thursday everyone!
Until Next Time . . .
