Good Morning Fellow Stampers :-)
Happy Hump Day!! Whooo hooooo . . . so we're in a rainy/slushy week here on the Front Range of Colorado. And I am so thankful that we are finally getting the Spring rains and so much needed moisture. We spent the past 3 months in a very strange, dry, warm spell, and really did not get much Winter this year. I'm hoping for a lengthy cool Spring.
Today I'm focusing on one of my favorite SAB sets, and thinking that maybe everyone should grab one more of these before they're gone; you know, to give a friend, or have on hand in case you ruin the other -- LOL :-) Hey, Chick! was definitely one of the top picks of this year's Sale-A-Bration event, and with good reason. So I finally went off and just played a little bit, and did a couple of projects that I've been wanting to do for like 3 months. Sheesh! Talk about waiting until the last minute Wendy!! LOL
One of the hot trends right now is "paper piecing." And frankly, for a quilter here, I'm wondering why I've been putting this off for so long. Now, of course, paper piecing in quilting is far different than paper piecing in paper crafting; but nevertheless, it's not hard and I should have jumped on this band wagon way back in the beginning -- LOL. Soooo, I will be playing with this a lot more this Spring I've decided. This little card was created from the easy peasy Whisper White Notecard & Envelope set (love that!), which means it's a cute little 3-1/2" x 5" size, and perfect for just dropping a note to a friend! Notice I'm featuring a certain set of In Colors today ?? ;-)
These cute hens are both paper pieced. Let's talk paper piecing for just a minute! To create a piece like this, it's a 2-step process. First, stamp the image on the cardstock piece (i.e, on the center Whisper White retangle); then stamp the images again on your chosen designer series paper (I've used some pieces from the Serene Scenery designer series paper stack, and the Succulent Garden designer series paper collection). When you fussy cut your chickens, you don't worry about legs, beaks, combs, etc. Why? Because those are stamped on the cardstock, and you are just overlaying the body part. I did add some "coloring" with an aqua painter on the designer paper, and all the "extras" stamped on the carstock. I also took the time to "fussy cut" an extra wing for the top chicken so I could have him holding his little sign. Cute, Cute, Cute!!! The fabulous Hexagon Dynamic TIEF is showcased in the background; and I pulled out the retired 3/8" grosgrain ribbon from the Petals & Paisleys Suite in the Holiday Occasions Catalog. So glad I still have some of this ribbon left! Featured color here? Delightful Dijon ~~ which in the end turned out to be just a fabulous color for so many things, especially Fall color combos. I'm going to miss this color, and I would never have guessed that when it first came out.
This card is one I've been wanting to do all SAB season - sigh! And then one of my customers comes to class last weekend with her sample all done! Grrrrrrrr . . . so now I'm really unhappy with myself! So here is my version of the "stacked" chickens! -- Who came first? LOL I'll give you a hint. Start from the bottom, work your way up, and use your Stamp-a-ma-Jig for a project like this. It will save you a lot of headaches!!! I'm so excited about this cute card. Here are the measurements so you can create one too (and this card fits in a #10 business size envelope):
Card base: 8" x 9", scored at 4"
Mat background: 8-1/2" x 3-1/2"
Focal point piece: 8-1/4" x 3-1/4"
I used both an aqua painter and a blender pen to color my feathered friends.
And once again I'm featuring colors from the 2015-2017 In Color collection.
Do you remember those fabulous Blossom Accents from a year back? I have a stash, and I still think they're fabulous!!
My last card today features the crazy mop top chicken - LOL. I call this my "Crazy Chick" card! He's my favorite :-) This card has several products from our Holiday Occasions Catalog, including a piece of designer paper from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty DSP, and the Mint Macaron 3/8" Grosgrain Ribbon from the Petals & Paisleys Trio Pack. My "crazy chick" is stamped in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla squares that were cut with the Layering Squares framelits, and layered just so on the front of the card.
I kept the coloring simple; and left the sentiment off the front of this card.
I'm saving it for the inside -- and I did that unpurpose.
This card is perfect for just about any occasion - friendship, hello, thank you, get well birthday -- these Crazy Chicks would cheer up any occasion! :-)
This card is all about the Mint Macaron
What In Color are you going to miss the most from this retiring collection?
Alright -- Only 3 days left of Sale-A-Bration. Did you snatch this set up for yourself? Get your orders in before it's too late if you didn't. There's still time!! :-)
Now it's time for a little more Spring Cleaning and another little Blog Candy Giveaway!! I'm having so much fun doing this, and seeing all of you participate!! :-) This week, we're working on designer series papers! If you were a winner last week, your package is heading out into the mail today!! So keep an eye out :-)
I've got quite a collection of designer papers adding up. I've cut all of them into easy to use 6" x 6" squares -- and there is all kinds of papers here, from recent designs you'll recognize, to some from quite a few years back that may bring back memories!
This week 6 lucky entrants will get a stack of designer series papers (my choice), to enjoy and play with in their projects.
To enter, leave a comment on this blog post and share with us what your favorite designer series paper collection is from the Spring Occasions Catalog! All comments must be in by Friday, March 31st. The random drawing will take place this weekend, so be sure to check back and see if you are one of the lucky 6 recipients!! :-)
Happy Crafting Everyone!
