Hello Fellow Stampers !!

It's a busy week -- even though I'm taking some vacation time this week.  I've attacked some projects here on the home front, and it's good to finally be getting a few things taken care of that have been hanging for over a year or more!!  Eeeek!  Do you ever feel like that?  The "to do" list is definitely way too long.  And, it's time to start planting pretty flowers and plants for the Summer too!  🙂

But the highlight of this incredibly busy week is that TOMORROW -- yes, Tomorrow!! -- the new 2017-2018 Catalog goes LIVE!!  Whooo Hoooooooo -- are you as excited as I am??  I've got a Wish List a mile long!!  I LOVE this new catalog!!  And there is so much to know before tomorrow. ~

 

First ~  You cannot place an order out of the new catalog until Noon, MST -- 12:00 High Noon!!  Got that??  LOL   From midnight tonight until Noon tomorrow MST, the ordering system will be down for the catalog transition as all the "old" is put out to pasture; and the new is ushered in!  So spend that time snacking, and looking over your catalogs.  And get ready to push those buttons at Noon MST.

Now, Second ~  Very Important!!  You will NOT be able to Order the new, and incredibly Fabulous Daisy Punch (or bundle) tomorrow!!  Why you ask??  Screeching at the top of your lungs!!!  I know, I know!!  It's a HUGE disappointment.  But don't despair!!   What happened you ask??  Well . . . here's the scoop!!  This punch is beyond popular!!  Let's just say it was epic!!  SU! has never experienced anything like this -- and this was just the Demo Pre-Order period!  So let's put this in context for you -- in any given year, SU! only sells about 7000 units of any given punch -- that's in an entire year!!  Knowing this was a new product, SU! ordered 10,000 units (what they figured was a 4-month supply for a new product) - ha!  Boy did we take them by surprise.  All 10,000 units sold out in one month of the Pre-Order Period, and SU! is backordered over 2,000 units already.  Sooooooooo -- what have they been doing to try to rectify this?  SU! has been working very closely with the supplier.  But as you can expect, a punch can't be made overnight, or with pixie dust or anything like that . . . sooooooo - the item number has been turned off for the timebeing so the Backorders don't get any worse.  The first shipment of the punch is expected around the June 26th timeframe with another shipment expected in early July.  So hang in there -- keep that Daisy punch and bundle on your Wish List for later this Summer; and let's play with all the other wonderful goodies!!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

Happy Memorial Day!  Today is when we pause to remember those who have sacrificed home, safety, family, and even their lives to keep us free and safe.  We can never give enough thanks to those who have sacrificed so much.  My own father served during the Vietnam War.  He was a radio operator stationed in the southeastern part of this beautiful state I live in.  My mother has shared with me recently how he got his orders to go over to the front at one point, and how she was sick to her stomach for weeks until they heard that his number had not made it in the cut and he could stay here.  I am thankful he never had to experience the horrors of war and that although he served out his time in the Air Force, he was able to be here for his family throughout his lifetime.  I know he was always proud of his time in the military; and I am proud of him to this day.  Thank you to all of you reading this blog post today, if you are family of those who have served, or have even served yourself, for all you have done for our country!

 

It's time for this week's Paper Players [PP346] challenge.  I thought it only appropriate to design a card of "thanks" on this day of remembrance.  This simple sketch worked well for my interpretation.  I also am showcasing some soon retiring products in today's design as we only have 3 days left to enjoy this past year's products.  So let's go play - ready?

 

I chose a classic red, white & blue theme for today's "thank you" design.

Starting with some wonderful designer series paper that will be retiring as of the 31st - the Irresistibly Floral Specialty Designer Series Paper.

Not enough attention has been paid to this wonderful collection of "emboss resist" paper.  It has wonderful patterns, and is all set to go for you to do sponging, spraying, watercoloring - any technique that works well with emboss resist.

I chose to play with my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors today.  You can purchase these wonderful watercolors through Amazon.com

 

The fabulous thing about watercoloring is that there is no right or wrong; and every time you play it turns out differently.

Gansai Tambi watercolors have a wonderful thick pigment to them; and are wonderful as you add water and move them.

They worked very well on this paper; and as you can see, I played around a couple times; what ended up on the card was different than my first attempt.

I like them both!

The Irresistibly Floral SDSP, holds up well to water; and the "emboss resist" areas clean up easily when you rub with a piece of paper towel.

 

A piece of Vellum creates the horizontal "barrier" from the sketch and everything else is built on top of that.

I punched a "banner" using the Best Badge Punch - we'll still have this one in the next catalog.

And then I created a collage using a number of products that will no longer be with us at the end of the week.

Stars Framelits and the Hello You Thinlits are some of my favorite dies - and I'm sorry to say they will be gone shortly.

My Stars are some of my more used dies; and I do intend to keep them in my inventory.  Be sure you have a set before they are gone!!

 

I stamped the "to you" from the Banners for You stamp set (not retiring but the bundle with the framelits is) in Night of Navy on the Whisper White "banner" - laid some fun Gold Metallic Thread on the back adhered the piece over the Vellum.

The stars are popped with dimensionals, and finally the "thanks" is attached with fine tip glue.

 

I pulled my soon retiring Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set for this wonderful array of stars on the inside of this card.

This stamp set has a wonderful variety of images for any season or time of year - be sure you check it out before it's gone!!

A Just Add Text Sneak Peak for Mojo Monday ~

 

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Yes, I really am still here -- LOL.  Sorry!!  I hope you don't mind that I took a couple days away from the blog.  I had not originally planned it that way; but the best laid plans of mice and men they say.  Last week kind of overtook me, and I finally decided by Friday that I need to back off for a little bit and just take a couple days' break.  So now we're going to play a little catch-up - and hopefully have a little fun this next week as we race toward the release of the new 2017-2018 Annual Catalog.

 

 

So today's "catch-up" post is for the Mojo Monday [MOJO498] challenge.  I'm surprised how much this design has changed in my mind as I've contemplated it over the past week.  I think the design turned out a little simpler and kind of sweet; always a plus if you're trying to whip together a card in a hurry.  Today we're also "sneak peaking" another new stamp set from the soon coming catalog.  Enjoy!

 

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:

• Layerothology.  Here comes our standard Thick Whisper White cardstock, cut 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2".  The background layering on this card encompasses Calypso Coral and the new Tranquil Tide, with a nice 2-1/4" x 3-3/4" panel of the new Delightful Daisy DSP.  I am so in love with this paper.  The whole package of paper is gorgeous!!  And no, there is nothing wrong with the print on this particular piece.  It is meant to look watercolor washed and impressionistic.  I was surprised to learn recently that some people thought there was something wrong with the printing of this paper; especially after this has very much been the trend for a couple of seasons now.  Trust me, a full 12" x 12" sheet of this paper is gorgeous!!

 

 

• Just Add Text.  This delightful new stamp set has a lovely collection of unusual sentiments that I think we're going to find really useful!  What I like about a sentiment like this is that it creates what I call a "generic" card that can be used for so many different occasions or moments.  It works both outside and inside a card.  Today's choice was stamped in Tranquil Tide ink, and cut with both the Layering Circles framelits and the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  The piece is popped above a fun "twist" of Peekaboo Peach Ruched Ribbon.  This soon to retire ribbon is one of my favorites from this past year!

 

 

• Turn to the Inside.  I created a fun "swirl" of a daisy on the inside of this card using a "cut apart" image from the Playful Backgrounds stamp set. When I looked at this one particular image in the set I immediately saw the petals and center of a daisy or sunflower; but in order to get it to really work properly, you have to cut the image apart.  Here's a closer look at what I'm talking about:
  

 

The image in the circle comes as one complete piece in your stamp set; I took my "rubber" scissors and carefully cut the parts apart -

 

Here's a closer look - as you can see I carefully cut the images apart and curved the rubber around the images so that they stand alone.

 

Here I think you can see them separated from each other a little better.

What I love about this is that both images look like they have "petals" and a flower "center" - and they work beautifully together or apart.

 

I used the larger of the images to create this "impressionistic" daisy flower for the inside of my card using Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral, each stamped off once first.

Isn't that cool??!!  😉

Kind of neat I think!!

Using a "critical eye" when looking at your stamp sets can help you use them in many different ways, even beyond what maybe they were initially intended.

Don't be afraid to "think outside the stamp box" - 😋

A Colorful Season to Smile

It's Hump Day!!  And we're going to have a little fun today with a sneak peak of a fun collection of new products coming your way in just one more week!  And we're going to play with the Global Design Project [GDP088] challenge all at the same time!!

 

 

 

 Today we CASE the designer over at GDP.  Now GDP does things a little bit differently.  Normally CASE means to "copy and share everything."  But at GDP they change the meaning of the acronym a little bit and instruct challenge participants to "Copy and Selectively Edit."  In other words, they really don't want a "copied" card, but rather an "inspired" design.  So here is my "inspired by the designer" design today -- hope you enjoy ~

 

Today I broke the seal on some new product - and I'm just lovin' it!!

There is a lot of new fun product in this design - Colorful Seasons, Label Me Pretty, Eastern Beauty, Seasonal Layers Thinlits, Pretty Label Punch, paper, and even the enamel dots!

It's all so luscious!

 

Spring is all about the flowers; and I love the flowering trees when they come into bloom.

Unfortunately ours here in Colorado are past their prime and the blooms are gone; but we can still enjoy them on our cards, right?

And the Seasonal Layers Thinlits make this so easy and so pretty!

I cut a tree branch in both Soft Suede and Gold Foil and layered them offset from each other.

All those sweet little flowers are stamped and cut with the dies; some are framed and cut; some are a thinlit with sweet detail that does not require any stamping.

 

 

I'm featuring the new In Color, Berry Burst today ~ and the colors from our other collections that blend with it beautifully.

Our fabulous new Color Theory DSP kind of gives you some cues as to what blends and works so well with this new color - try Pink Pirouette and Sweet Sugarplum.

As you can see from today's design, they are perfect together!!

 

Now if you watched my Sneak Peak video this past weekend, you know that the backside of the Color Theory DSP looks like crackled paint.

This piece is perfect for showcasing my flowering branch, and is matted with a pop of Berry Burst cardstock against a Crumb Cake card base.

I pulled out the new Label Me Pretty stamp set and the brand new Pretty Label Punch to make this cute little sentiment piece.

It is stamped in Berry Burst and Sweet Sugarplum for a nice variation in coloring.

 

 

When you "turn to the inside" of this card, you will find layering that emulates the front, and a little flurry of die cut flowers in the lower corner.

It's a sweet simple "wow" inside that leaves you plenty of space to write a note to the recipient.

 

I finished off this card with a smattering of the new Glimmer Enamel Dots.

These little embellishments are to die for, and have a nice sparkle and glimmer to them that is the perfect finishing touch to any project.

They're so popular, that they went on backorder during the Pre-Order period for the demonstrators.  Don't worry ~ Stampin' Up! is getting a nice shipment in soon.
