Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~
Well, it's "hump day" ~ and it's been one of those weeks! Work continues to be a struggle, and has me very stressed out. It's hard to create when you're distracted and upset. Sigh . . . I did however, want to get into my Studio and start inking up some of my favorite stamp sets and start playing. Today, I'm featuring one of my top "favorite things" that I presented last week. You can see my entire "My Favorite Things" list HERE.
Today we're going to play with the Global Design Project [GDP90] challenge. This is a challenge I like to pop in once in awhile and play with. I may be doing that more often now; and I'll tell you more about that on Friday when we post up for the Mojo Monday challenge. Today's sketch is cute and could be interpreted in so many ways -- I decided to be ultra-creative with this sketch.
Now you all know this is one of my top picks, and I've just been itching to pull this stamp set out and start inking it up!!!
Oooo laa laa -- I LOVE it!! It's everything I thought it would be!!!
Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips:
- Layerothology. The card base for this card is cut from Pool Party cardstock, 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4". I chose So Saffron today to bring in some "sunshine" to my card mat behind my Whisper White stamped scene. This card is a mixture of watercoloring (with an aquapainter) and Stampin' Write Markers. And some fun fussy cutting! Technique Tip: When you watercolor on Whisper White, the paper can "warp" or "curl" pretty badly on you. Use minimal water; and when attaching the piece to the card front, use a generous amount of SNAIL (or adhesive of choice), help flatten and keep it attached properly, and so the edges and other areas don't try to lift back up!!
- Fabulous Flamingo. This flamingo really is pretty fabulous!!! I knew the minute I saw him I had to have him, and he sure is a lot of fun!! So I did some playing on scratch paper before I settled on how I was going to create this regal guy on cardstock. I purposely set Mister Flamingo to emulate the line or "string" of the sketch - basically creating the vertical line that draws your eye upward from the sentiment. I stamped palm branches randomly around the top; and then added a couple fussy cut branches popped with dimensionals. The grass and "water" were stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and then watercolored with Emerald Envy and Tranquil Tide. Finally I stamped the "second" image of the flamingo on the cardstock in Blushing Bride; and the details of the legs in Memento Tuxedo Black. The rest of the flamingo was layered and stamped on a separate piece of cardstock and then fussy cut and popped with dimensionals over the body area. Pull out those new Mini Stampin' Dimensionals to help pop the "small" areas of your leaves and flamingo ~ Fabulous!!!
- Strolling the Florida Everglades. This stamp set just makes me think of Florida; no way around it! LOL I stamped the "detail" stamp of the flamingo in Memento Tuxedo Black; and then came in with my AquaPainter and laid in a layer of Blushing Bride - very carefully, not too much water, as Whisper White does not like water. I then came back in with a Blushing Bride and So Saffron Stampin' Write Marker and added shading and another layer of coloring. Finally, I muted the So Saffron area with some Blushing Bride and my AquaPainter one more time. He is easy to "fussy cut" - so don't be bashful!! Isn't he pretty??!! My final touch to Mister Flamingo, after he was popped on the card, was to added some shimmer with my Clear Wink of Stella in shaded areas of the wings and body. He's REALLY pretty!!! LOL The sentiment is popped and layered using a 1-3/8" circle punch, and the entire scene is finished off with some pretty Glitter Enamel Dots.
- Turn to the Inside. I had just as much fun with the inside of the card as I did the front. I created a "continuation" of the scene from the front of the card, but this time stamped each color directly with the images - Emerald Envy for the grass and leaves; and Tranquil Tide for the water. I really think this is such a cool card!! And I really do love this stamp set!!
