Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~
TGIF! What a week! So thank goodness it's my Friday off; I have some fun things planned for the weekend (lunch with a dear friend, the Lavender Festival at the botanic gardens, Brad Paisley concert [eeeeeek] . . . and lots of resting too. I got another bit of bad news this week. I have a herniated disc in my lower back, and it's been causing numbness and tingling in my right foot. So while I'm relieved to know what is wrong and why my foot has been feeling so bad; it's a little disconcerting to think I have such a serious back problem all of a sudden. So it will be lots of physical therapy and chiropractic work in the days ahead!! In the meantime, I'll be trying to take it a little easy around here.
Today we're playing with this week's Global Design Project [GDP095] challenge; and "kids" theme challenge this week! A "kids" card is not something I design very much; kind of like a masculine card, I can find it difficult to create one of these style cards. However, we have so many fun stamp sets, papers and accessories that play perfectly into this theme, so it's really easier than you think to create a fun card for that young person in your life! And why shouldn't they have fun notes and cards once in awhile too!! ?? 😉
I have to admit, I lied the other day; when we were doing our July Blog Hop, I said that I loved all the designer papers in this year's catalog. Well, that's not quite true! LOL I have one set of papers that just doesn't quite do it for me, and that's the Pick a Pattern designer series paper collection. And yet, there are some interesting patterns in that collection that could be used in a number of different situations. The reality is that this collection of paper is Perfect for a child-themed card, and I kind of went to town with a fun shaker card idea. I mean, what kid wouldn't love a shaker card full of bears, raccoons, and tents!!?? LOL
This card base is cut from Sahara Sand cardstock - 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4"
The fun background layering is created from Emerald Envy and Sahara Sand cardstock, and then an overlay of the fun hash weave from the Pick a Pattern DSP.
Turned at slight angles, the pieces are wrapped with Basic Black Baker's Twine before being adhere to the card front.
Some Shaker Card Fun!!
I fussy cut these cute images from one of the patterns in the paper collection - they are so cute, and there is a lot to choose from in that pattern.
I settled on a little mountain range, two different tents, a tree stump, Mister Bear, and Mister Raccoon to play together inside my shaker.
Mister Moose gets to sit on the outside and wear a bow -- LOL
The background inside the shaker window is created with the Pieces & Patterns stamp set; another set I wasn't so sure about, but am starting to see so many uses for.
A cute Electic Shape paper clip, and a hand cut banner curved with a bone folder and attached to the front of the window finish off this fun card design.
And I just noticed that I missed cutting out a section between the Moose's antlers -- LOL; must have been too busy watching that movie on TV -- LOL
I'll have to pull out the paper snips and get that section cut out -- because it's driving me nuts now!! LOL
See, even I'm not perfect!! 😄
I was having too much fun shaking my card around to see how the pieces would move.
I love shaker cards - and this one is so unique - so different using these images rather than sequins or buttons.
Love it!!!
Turn to the Inside!
I kept the inside simple, maintaining the color scheme, and adding a simple piece of washi tape in crushed curry from one of our retired collections.
It works perfectly - and allows plenty of space for another sentiment or a note of encouragement to your young person!
There you go -- you can see my playing with my card -- LOL. This picture picks up the tents and mountain range a little bit. This card turned out so fun!! And here I didn't even think I could do a "kid" themed card - LOL How fun! I hope you enjoyed this card design today. And now I can say I like Pick a Pattern DSP, a little bit better!! As always, I'm only an email away if you have any questions about my designs or need help with Stampin' Up! Don't miss out on the Pick a Pattern Suite - it is "wildly" adorable!! 😄
Until Next Time . . .
