Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~~
It's Thursday! And time to CASE a wonderful sample from the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog. This week we're playing with the This Little Piggy stamp set and I just love this adorable little set.
You may have noticed I didn't have a post yesterday with the promised Class With Wendy video. Things did not go as expected here at DDS Studios earlier this week; so we'll play catch up on the video later, okay?? I promise!! 😉
So let's play today!! Are you ready? Turn to page 48 in your Annual Catalogs, and take a look at the sample at the very top of the page . . . and let's see how today's sample turned out compared to that one!!
Soooooooooo Cuuuuttte!! Can you hear me squealing over here?? LOL
My version of the sample on page 48 is what I call a "stepped up" version. The design in the catalog is fairly simple; this one has a little more detail and layering.
Let's explore!
Design Colorology
Stamps, Papers, Inks . . . Oh, My!
Stamps: This Little Piggy
Paper: Powder Pink (8-1/2" x 5-1/2"; score at 4-1/4"), Smoky Slate (3-3/4″ x 5-1/2″), Whisper White (3-1/2″ x 5-1/2")
Inks: Archival Basic Gray, Powder Pink, Watercolor Pencil ass't
Other: AquaPainter, Blender Pen, Pearls, Clear Wink of Stella, Smoky Slate 1/8" stitched ribbon (ret.)
"CASE-Out" Design Guide
1. Score your card base at 4-1/4" and fold; remember, fold inward on the bump of your score line (the bump goes to the inside) to get the finished professional look.
2. Layer the Whisper White piece centered in the Smoky Slate piece and set aside.
3. On scrap Whisper White, stamp the "flying" piggy image 3 times in Archival Basic Gray ink. Using your AquaPainter, Blender Pen, Powder Pink ink, and the Basic Black, Basic Gray, Melon Mambo Watercolor pencils, color your piggies. Finish off your piggies once dry with a nice layer of Clear Wink of Stella. Glimmery Piggies!! LOL Be sure to add some Clear Wink of Stella to the winks so that they shimmer nicely too!!
Note the difference between using a blender pen and an aquapainter when working your watercoloring.
The pink piggy on the bottom, for example, of my sample was colored using a blender pen; whereas the pink piggy at the top with the spots was watercolored using an aquapainter. You get a softer more washed look with your aquapainter. Be sure not to use too much water or "over color" when working on Whisper White cardstock - it "pills" easily!
[This picture shows the glimmer of the Clear Wink of Stella I finished off the piggies with]
4. Fussy cut your piggies using your Paper Snips (or scissors of your choice). They don't take too long to cut out; just take some care around the tails and tips of the hooves.
5. Stamp the flying piggy image in Archival Basic Gray ink on the Whisper White cardstock layering you set aside as such: The first image at the top with the sentiment; then the second and third images ink up only the pig image NOT the sentiment portion. You will stamp the " . . . So She Did" sentiment from the stamp set separately by the bottom piggy image. This gives you the "outline" of where you will be laying your fussy cut piggies and helps give them some depth.
6. Tie a piece of ribbon of your choice down the left side of the layers. I pulled out some leftover Smoky Slate 1/8" stitched ribbon from last year. This is retired now; but I have a fair amount leftover and tucked away. It worked perfectly here. We're going to tie a faux knot/bow once we have our piggies in place.
7. Adhere the layer to the card base with SNAIL.
8. Now attach your fussy cut piggies using dimensionals (approximately 3 dimensionals on the back of each piggy), and arrange them in any order you like.
9. Finish off your piggies in style with a nice adornment of pearls -- so fun!!
Wondering how difficult today's sample is? It's Not!! So don't be intimidated. You can always do the simpler sample in the catalog which is just stamped right to the card front and watercolored there. But if you like to fussy cut, and have a little patience, you can step this sample up very easily and have a fabulous "wow" card design! I hope my sample has inspired you today to try new things and step outside your comfort zone. Be sure to use our wonderful Catalog to inspire your card making and paper crafting! It's a wonderful resource!!
We're off and running to another busy day!
Until Next Time . . .
