Just Ask Wendy! - A Few of My Favorite Things . . .

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers !

I always find myself humming the song from Sound of Music when I put this blog post together -- LOL.  Indeed, each catalog launch, I like to share with you A Few of My Favorite Things from that catalog - i.e., my "top picks" and what I think are the "must haves" that should be on your Wish Lists.  Of course, each person's tastes are a little different; but hopefully this will help you focus on items through the new 2017 Holiday Occasions Catalog that you might have missed, or that you might take a second closer look at.  Here we go :-)

 

 

1.  Painted Autumn Suite

Yes, the ENTIRE Suite!!  LOL

Everything on Pages 48 to 52 is like to LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

From the beautiful stamp sets, to the accessories, paper, and of course -- a brand new Punch - the Leaf Punch.

Browse through these pages carefully -- and I highly recommend you take another look at the Count My Blessings stamp set on page 50 - watercolor fun just waiting for your paintbrush!

 

2.  Good Tidings, Every Good Wish, and Season Like Christmas stamp sets

I'm lumping the 3 stamp sets on pages 8 & 9 of your catalogs into one category here; namely because they are all similar in style - 2-step stamp sets with an impressionistic watercolor feel to the stamping.  AND because I simply cannot decide which set I love more.  They are all 3 fabulous, and give you so many options and sentiments.  Take a closer look at these sets, and then add them to your Wish List!!  😉

 

3.  Merry Little Labels

Now the reality is that there is a lot of love about the Merry Little Christmas Suite -- again, browse and don't miss a thing!!  Like, for example, that there is a 12" x 12" cardstock pack in the upper left corner of page 12 in Old Olive and Kraft!!  Items like this can easily be overlooked and you don't realize what you're missing -- I always stock up on the 12" x 12" offerings when they come.

But I think the sleeper set in this suite is the Merry Little Labels stamp set.  What a wonderful set for this coming holiday season - and it comes bundled with our brand new Everyday Label Punch nestled right above it on the page.  Not only that, it coordinates with the 2-1/4" circle punch, and the Layering Ovals Framelits dies.  AND did you notice there's another set on page 45 that goes with the new punch too??  Don't miss this Stampers!!!!

 

4.  Merry Music Specialty Designer Series Paper

As usual, Stampin' Up! has outdone itself again with the gorgeous designer series paper in this catalog.  By far, my favorite is Painted Autumn DSP in the Painted Autumn Suite.  But there are many more beautiful sets in this catalog.

The Merry Music DSP is a very special paper indeed.  What makes this paper a "specialty" paper is that it is lighter weight than our normal designer papers and this makes it perfect for all sorts of very special projects.  I love when we have a "newspaper" weight paper like this - especially for vintage projects.  This paper is perfect for this very special Christmas projects and cards to give a special touch.  And it pairs perfectly with my next "top choice" from this catalog.

 

 

5.  Musical Season Bundle

I think this is one of my favorite samples in this catalog -- and I'm just so excited about this stamp set and die bundle!!  You can find this set on page 25 of your catalog -- and what a perfect combination with the Merry Music SDSP.  I'm looking forward to hours of fun with this lovely set.  Take another look!!

 

 

6.  Christmas In the Making.

Here is a stamp set that I pretty much passed over in my first walk-thru's of the catalog.  I really thought it wasn't on the top of my list.

And then I saw what my upline, Ann Schach, did with this set about a week ago!!  O M G!!!

And now I have totally changed my mind . . . and I will be getting this set very soon!  I can hardly wait to play!

Don't miss out on this sweet, nostalgic set either!  If you love to color, or watercolor -- this is a "must have!"

 

 

7.  Night in Bethlehem Bundle

I am always looking for the perfect "religious" set at Christmas time -- and I think this year, Stampin' Up! has certainly created a lovely little set.

Even better - it comes with a set of dies - I LOVE that!!!

This set is a "must have" for me -- maybe for you too??

 

 

8.  Brightly List Christmas Bundle

I have always wished that Stampin' Up! would come out with their own lamp post die -- and now we finally have this wonderful set!!

Oh, I'm so happy!!  Be sure to check out this bundle on page 29 of your catalog.

 

9.  Snowflake Sentiments Bundle

I adore anything "snowflake" and this set is gorgeous!

The dies are going to be so much fun - and I love the coordinated stamp set.

10.  Shimmer, Glimmer, Shine!!

Are you like me?  Do you love the glimmer and shimmer of foil?

Well, we have foil to die for this season -- including the Foil Snowflakes that are like "to die for" - I mean seriously!

We have a new Foil color this year -- Champagne!!  And it is gorgeous!

And then there's the Year of Cheer Specialty Designer Series Paper!!  Oh My!

A complete collection of nothing but foil designed paper just for your drooling pleasure!!

My "honorable mention" for this catalog is the Half Full stamp set. 

This is just the cutest little set -- and it is perfect for more than just the holidays.

Mix-It Up Mondays ~~ A Little Late Catch-Up, and a Wonderful Painted Autumn!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

As promised earlier today, here is a "late" Mix-It Up Mondays post to catch-up from yesterday's Labor Day Holiday off.  We're getting back on track here at DDS Studios, and so looking forward to all the beautiful fun we have ahead!

 

I'm continuing my focus on the Painted Autumn Suite in the new 2017 Holiday Occasions Catalog.  Last week I showed you how to "fussy cut" the sunflowers out of the Painted Autumn DSP for a wonderful card.  You can see more on that card HERE.

 

Today, I'm going to showcase the wonderful pumpkins and somemore fun "fussy cutting" techniques.  Let's play with today's fun little project!!

 

 

Today we're going to create some fun bookmarks (or tags, whichever is your preference).  I'm going to have to make a few more of these; they were so much fun!  And so relaxing to put together while I watched a little TV and enjoyed a cool September evening in my Studio.  These pretty little pumpkins are all fussy cut from the fabulous Painted Autumn designer series paper - You HAVE to have this paper!!  This project is overflowing with a bounty of new products; let's take a closer look!  😉

 

Let's start with a wonderful color combination:

 

 

Tangerine Tango

Lemon Lime Twist

Old Olive

Soft Suede

 

 

These little bookmarks/tags are cut from Very Vanilla cardstock, 2" x 4-1/4" - and punched with the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.  Then the little "tag" background for the pumpkin bunches is created from Peekabook Peach cardstock and using the brand new Everyday Label Punch.  Oh my!!   The pumpkins are fussy cut -- and are pretty easy to do.  The little pumpkin in the front is popped with a dimensional, while the set of 3 pumpkins was SNAIL'd right to the punched label.

 

Then I pulled out a couple of new stamp sets and had some more fun!!  LOL  The sweet sentiment is from the new Gourd Goodness stamp set, stamped in Tangerine Tango on Very Vanilla, and punched out with the Classic Label Punch (you can find this in the Annual Catalog).  I sponged the edges of that tag with Soft Suede before attached it behind the popped pumpkin with a glue dot. The leaves (both the fern in the background and the punched leaves), are from the Painted Harvest stamp set.  The punched leaves are stamped with the 2-step leaf in Lemon Lime Twist and Old Olive on Very Vanilla, and punched out with the new Leaf Punch.  So easy and fun!!  Finished off with a few strategically placed pearls, and a nice piece of Peekaboo Peach 5/8" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon, this little tag/bookmark is ready to adorn a package, or a keep a spot in a special book!  Wouldn't you love to receive this as a gift?

 

So here's a fun fact about this project; other than fussy cutting the pumpkins, this entire project uses punches to create the pieces and parts.  Let's review the punches uses in this project:

Good Morning Fellow Stampers !!

Whew!!  Did everyone have a fabulous and wonderful Labor Day long weekend holiday??  Mine was restful and some fun woven in too!!!  I have to admit, I didn't do much "studioing" though -- LOL  It was nice to take a break really from everything!  Today, we'll start doing some catch-up; so there will be a late Mix-It Up Monday post a little later today!  Stay tuned!!  😉  Now let's round up all the Stampin' Up! news for the week!

Case-Out Thurdays - A Painted Harvest of Sunflowers!

 

Hello Fellow Stampers ~~

Here we are at Thursday, and the final day of August 2017 -- WOW!  Tomorrow we kick off a new Holiday Occasions Catalog.  Are you ready??   😉

 

Let's kick off a Case-Out Thursday by casing a card from my favorite suite of products from the new catalog . . . so much fun!!

 

 Today's CASE show's how to "copy" but enhance.  In other words -- we'll take the idea and then step it up and change some of the elements to suit our own taste or vision.

"CASE-Out" Design Guide 

 

1.  Score your card base at 4-1/4" and fold; remember, fold inward on the bump of your score line (the bump goes to the inside) to get the finished professional look.

2.  On your 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" Very Vanilla piece, stamp the sunflower, layered in Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry - and the center in Pacific Point.  Stamp leaves (both layers) in Garden Green.  Then stamp several leaves on a scrap piece of Very Vanilla, and punch them out with the Leaf Punch.  Using dimensionals, place these layered over the other stamped leaves (angle them so the other leaves show below).

 

 

3.  Stamp the sentiment in Garden Green on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock, and punch with the Everyday Label Punch.  Brush the edges using a sponge and Garden Green ink.  Using your Paper Piercer, pierce a hole on either end of the tag; then pull two pieces of "separated" burlap ribbon through the holes and tie.

 

 

 

4.  Cut the edge from a strip of Burlap Ribbon, then pull several "strings" and separate them.  Use these "strings" of burlap (approx. 3), and attach them with a glue dot to the center of the card where the tag will overlay and not be seen.  You want the pieces to look "spread" behind the tag.  Place the tag using dimensionals over the top of the burlap pieces.  Add Glitter Enamel Dots; and use some Clear Wink of Stella on your sunflower petals for a nice shimmer.

 

 

You may be wondering how I decided on blue of all things to accent my card design today.  Well, I bought a fun ornamental sunflower bouquet at the craft store a week ago; and the accents, including the burlap wrap, were all blue (looks like Pacific Point); it is so pretty!  It just captured me and I love it!  So here it is on a card - and how pretty is this??  Because this is a 2-step stamp set, you can layer and experiment with all sorts of colors.  You'll want to give it a try!!  Looking forward to Friday!!  Talk soon 🙂
