Well, here we are on a "hump day"; and I'm quite happy that it is a "short" week as I have an "off-Friday" this week. In fact, only one more working Friday for me this year -- yeah!! I am mightily looking forward to my holiday break this year!! I really need it!
It's that time of year -- time to make ornaments!! Whoo hooo . . . and I've been doing a little playing with an idea I had in my head. I'm not sure it totally turned out the way I had first envisioned it; but I've decided that's okay. I'm still playing . . . LOL
I started thinking about our Eastern Medallions a couple of weeks ago when it dawned on me out of the blue that we had the perfect ornaments in the making within this set; and I think it's been getting ignored. I ended up going with a "flat" ornament with today's collection; I'm still experimenting with a 3D version and trying to decide exactly how that should look. I'll let you know . . . LOL
You'll recall when these were first introduced that we experimented with a number of ways of playing with these dies, including snipping the larger die at each of the points to remove it from the cardstock. That works very well here with these. By combining our Layering Circles framelits with the Eastern Medallions, you can create a number of different and wonderful looks. I'd still like to create an elegant black and gold version; so we'll see how it goes!
This ornament was created with a Tranquil Tide and Silver color combination. I cut 3 of the Eastern Medallion dies together to create this beautiful intricate die cut, snipped it at the points from the Tranquil Tide cardstock; then layered it over a Silver Glimmer paper circle. The outer circle was created from Silver Foil using two of the Layering Circles to create this fun edge. And now here's a fun tip - wondering where that pretty little popped up "flower" in the center comes from? Check out the Quilt Builder Framelits Dies !! What a wonderful way to combine our different die sets to create a lovely look!!
This ornament is created a little bit differently. I used a Very Vanilla and Gold color combination for this ornament.
First, I cut just the outer intricate die portion from the Eastern Medallions on Very Vanilla, and snipped it at the point. Then I cut the two other intricate dies from a Gold Foil piece and overlaid that on the Very Vanilla die cut. A Gold Foil circle was cut for underneath; and then I cut a Very Vanilla scallop border using the largest Layering Circle scallop, and then a slightly smaller plain circle. That border is glued on the top edge of the Gold Foil circle with some of our retired 2-Way Glue. I like the different effect this created.
This ornament was created with Whisper White and Dapper Denim cardstocks. And I used the Eastern Palace sticker overlays to create the center piece.
Again, the largest intricate die and one of the center dies was used to create this die cut; snipped out at the points.
I stamped the little images in Dapper Denim on each of the curves.
Then the outer die was cut again from Dapper Denim, and I snipped it down at the "arch" level (where you see the stamping) all the way around, so that I could layer it underneath and just have the color peaking through the cutouts in the center (can you see that?).
The sticker was laid on Whisper White cardstock; and then cut out with the frame and intricate die that coordinates with this pretty flower -- did you realize the dies cut out the stickers?? Pretty cool isn't it!! This is popped in the center of the ornament as well, after curving out the cut-out petals.
I think this one is really pretty!!
I think you could easily modify these to create pretty tags for packages as well!
Give them a try! Sometimes it's easy to forget that we have wonderful products in our Annual Catalog that work so well for Christmas!!
