Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~
Howdy Howdy! We're crazy busy around here at DDS Studios right now. Busy cleaning carpets, and purging closets and drawers and cupboards - oh my! Discovered I had never cleaned the ceiling fan in the bedroom this last Fall - Yuck! LOL It's amazing how much work it takes to keep a household clean and put together! Whew!
Anyway -- we're off to the Studio to see what's been cookin'. I promised you some special cards this week, and we are kicking off today with a special "masculine" Valentine that I think you'll love. It's simple, coppery, and uses the Sliding Door Framelits in a different way that I want to be sure you get a chance to see. So off we go to play . . .
Today we are going to incorporate the "tarnished metal technique"; rather than using it on Foil paper, we're going to incorporate it right onto cardstock. If you need a refresher on the "tarnished metal technique", check out last year's Class With Wendy post HERE.
We're showcasing a different use of the Sliding Door Framelits today.
Whenever I get a new set of dies, I think the best think to do is cut each piece in the set so you can see what it looks like and what it does. Every die can act and look differently; some cut out a shape, some frame something, some create an intricate look, some don't even cut a piece "out" of the paper but leave it intact within the paper itself.
Today we're focusing specifically on the little rectangle framelit in this die set.
The cutting edge on this framelit cuts out a rectangle approximately 1/8" less than 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" (that would 2-3/8" x 3-3/8")
This will allow us to frame a piece of cardstock cut 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" for today's project.
Today's card base is cut from Crumb Cake cardstock, 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2" - and the fold turned to the side.
Remember: Fold so that the bump of your score is to the inside and use your bone folder to get that nice crisp professional fold.
The background layer is cut from Soft Suede - 4" x 5-1/4".
I embossed this piece with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Remember that this is one of our new 3D "Dynamic" embossing folders which makes a much deeper impression into the paper. Thus, I recommend that you lightly mist your cardstock with water first before running it through the Big Shot. Also remember, that this is a much thicker embossing folder, so you don't use the bottom "cutting plate" for your sandwich ~ just the top one.
Next, using the "tarnished metal technique" I first rubbed over the impression with Archival Basic Black Ink; then using swipes of Versamark across the raised image, I layered Gold embossing power; then Copper embossing powder. Then I went over everything a second time with the Archival Basic Black ink pad. The wonderful "tarnished" background layer lends the perfect "masculine" feel to this card.
Now for our center piece . . .
I cut a piece of Copper Foil 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" - then centered the rectangle framelits on that piece very carefully - you want to use your magnetic platform and sticky tape to make sure everything stays in place.
The result is this wonderful Copper Foil "frame" which is laid over a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock measuring the same (2-1/2" x 3-1/2").
Before putting the frame on the cardstock - I stamped this wonderful sentiment from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set, then embossed it in Copper embossing powder.
Attach your frame using a small bead of Fine-tip Glue all the way around (be care to not use too much).
Then this piece is popped with dimensionals on the front of the card.
The final simple touch are these wonderful Copper Foil hearts cut using the Lots of Love Box Framelits dies (I love these little hearts).
They are attached with glue dots and dimensionals to stay at the same level as the sentiment centerpiece.
The inside of the card was created to coordinate with the front of the card with a Soft Suede background, and the same Copper embossed and framed centerpiece.
This sentiment is the "2nd" half of the sentiment on the front of the card - all found in the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set.
However - I added the pretty banner, also all done in Copper embossing powder, using the Banners for You stamp set and the coordinating Bunch of Banners Framelits. The banner is popped with dimensionals.
The perfect "masculine" Valentine I think. And what a wonderful way to make another use of our new Sliding Door Framelits. So versatile!! Think about creating a shaker card with this rectangle -- wouldn't that be fun??!! Have a wonderful Hump Day!!
Until Next Time . . .
