Mix-It Up Mondays ~~ Summer Sampler Fun!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

 

Happy Monday!!  It's the final full week of July - Whew!  I'm struggling with that one.  How about you?  The kids head back to school here in our area on August 15th - so hard to imagine!!  It just seems like we should have plenty of Summer left yet!!

 

I've been doing some sorting and cleaning out of my fabric drawers in the Studio - Oh My!!  I found all sorts of old cross-stitch and quilt projects that I obviously thought I'd love to do at the time I bought them - LOL  Needless to say, a lot of things have gone out the door to charity again this past week.  I'm trying to bring my focus to the things I love and know I really want to do.

 

 

 

And yes, I am going to be getting back to some sewing and quilting and other crafty things.  So I may share some of that with you here from time to time as I get myself organized and rolling.  In fact, I started a brand new project kit over the weekend that I just got last week.  I'm so excited about having this placemat and coaster set for August!!

 

 

I will definitely share with you as I finish this project; and other fun things I delve into this Summer and Fall!!  Yeah!

 

I've decided I need a little more balance in my life, and not so much paper crafting all the time.  This business has taken up my life 24/7 for the past 4 years, and I've come to realize that I'm burned out, no longer happy, have impacted friendships over it, and lost some of the things I love the most - like curling up with a good mystery.  So please please bear with me while I try to find some balance in my life and get my mojo back.  I do want to create cards, and I still love Stampin' Up!, but as long as I have a full-time "regular" job and a future husband in my life, and so many other things I love as well, I need to try to not give all of myself to just one endeavor.  There may come a time when I can give up the regular job and focus more on my crafting, and then I may be able to give more time to Stampin' Up!  Don't worry -- I'm not going too far away, I just don't plan to blog as much as I had been these past years; or spend as much time at the Studio table on card making as I had been.  And when the cold weather months start to sink back in later this year, it will feel more like curling up in the Studio and crafting too.

 

 

In the meantime, I want to share a wonderful project our local group made last month with you -- because . . .  I have another one of these I desperately want to make in the next week and share with you; and they will go together - ALL about Summertime!!!  LOL  Soooo, I hope you will feel as inspired as I have as we play with "samplers."

 

 

This Sampler was CASE'd off of a sample picture one of my downline gave me.  I made a few changes, and worked with images and sets that I love - but it's similar to the "original."  I don't know where she found the original, but the inspiration was wonderful!  The thing that I love about Samplers - kind of like quilting or cross-stich samplers - is the number of different stamp sets you can end up touching and using to create a piece like this.  It truly showcases so many wonderful products in our collections.

 

 

This sampler is set to center around a stamped image from the Sheltering Tree stamp set (stamped right on the background 11" x 11" sheet of cardstock.

Everything else is worked around that focal point.

The squares are cut with the Layering Squares Framelits dies (in Blueberry Bushel, Lemon Lime Twist, and Very Vanilla)

The stamp sets and dies featured in the top row (from left to right) are Daisy Delight w/Daisy Punch, Brushwork Alphabet, Painted Harvest w/Leaf Punch, Varied Vases w/Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits.

The Second Row (from left to right) features Jar of Love w/Everyday Jars framelits, Sheltering Tree, Dandelion Wishes, Brushwork Alphabet.

 

And the Third Row features (from left to right) Love What You Do, Touches of Texture, Bike Ride w/Build-a-Bike Framelits, High Tide, Colorful Seasons w/Seasonal Layers Thinlits, and the final square uses Touches of Texture, Rooted In Nature, and Colorful Seasons.

And of course we finished everything off with lots of wonderful rhinestones, baker's twine, Wink of Stella, and lots of other fun embellishments.

Case-Out Thursdays ~ It's a Tea Party

 

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

 

I've been wanting to share the projects from our "Tea for Three" class in June for such a long time; and just, with everything going on in my life, hadn't gotten around to it.  So I feel really bad, and very behind; but I'm playing a little catch up this week, and do want to share these fun projects with you.

 

The Tea Room Suite on pages 14 & 15 of the new 2018-2019 Annual Catalog caught my eye immediately when I first saw the catalog.  I adore this suite of products; it's right up my alley, with a total vintage Victorian feel, sweet and soft, and reminds me of my grandmother, great-grandmother, and my teacup collection.  I LOVE collecting beautiful, vintage teacups and saucers; and have several of my great-grandmother's in my home now since she and my grandmother passed away.  They are very special to me.  But I also love searching for those special, old, and unusual teacups and saucers, like special ones that have unusual "legs" on the cup!  So cool! 

 

 

  

 

 

When I saw this suite in the catalog, I knew I had to have "everything!"  And that I'd be CASEing all the samples on the pages, because I just love them.  Here's how it all came together for our class.

 I did a fair amount of tweaking of the samples when I started prepping for class.  Unless you are paying close attention, you may not realize that the adorable copper tins are actually quite small - only 3-3/4" high, by 3-5/8" wide, by 2-1/4" deep and come 4 to a box when you order them.  They fit perfectly a 3" x 3" card collection using  our 3" x 3" envelopes.  They're also perfect to give a gift of tea / teabags, and so many other uses too.  Be sure you have checked those out more closely!!

The tins are covered with the pretty Tea Room Specialty Designer Series paper; and then decorated with "fussy cutouts" from the paper, or dies cut outs using the Memories & More card pack.  The Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack is also incorporated here and this copper-edged ribbon is absolutely GORGEOUS!!  The designer series paper is a "specialty" paper.  It is thinner than most of our other designer papers, and so lends itself naturally to a delicate Victorian feel, complimenting this suite of products perfectly!

 

The notecard set we made for class were created in the 3" x 3" size to fit as a collection in the tin everyone took home that day.  I only did one "off size" card that I created with our "narrow" whisper white card and envelope collection (2-1/2" x 4-1/4"), and which, obviously would not fit in the tin.

 

 

Not only is the designer series paper gorgeous for this collection, so are the beautiful Copper Vinyl Stickers, and so versatile and useful.  We used the stickers on both the lids of the tins, as well as on several of the notecard designs.

 

The other product in this suite that can easily get overlooked is the Tea Room Memories & More Card Pack.  Don't miss this product!!  It is absolutely wonderful; with duplicate cards of each of the designs, and some fantabulous stickers that were used in the notecards as well (see the gorgeous "fluttering" butterfly on the narrow notecard).

 

Did you know that the Spot of Tea Framelits has a die in it that cuts envelope liners for our little 3"x3" envelopes?  Check out the cute envelope on the left in the picture!  Super cute!

 

All of these creations combine use of the Time for Tea stamp set, the Spot of Tea Framelits, the Tea Room Memories & More Card Pack, Tea Room Copper Vinyl Stickers, and the Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack.  I also incorporated some of our new Rose Metallic Thread, Artisan Pearls and Copper Foil paper.  You definitely "need it all" - LOL.  This is a good example of what Stampin' Up! does so well - all of our products are so interchangeable and coordinated to work with each other perfectly.

"It's a Pattern Party" ~ July 2018 Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop

It's been awhile . . . while I've been doing some other things around the DDS Studios, and taking a vacation.  I've missed all of you; and what a perfect way to get back into the groove (hopefully!!) - It's the second Wednesday of July, and that means it's time for the Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop this month.  We're having a "Pattern Party" - and what perfect timing!  We're showcasing our favorite designer series papers from the new Annual Catalog, and we're having a Buy Three, Get One Sale this month, so how great is that!!??!!

Having just come back from a break, I thought I'd make a collection of cards from one of my favorite collections of paper, the Nature's Poem Designer Series Paper; but then I got all inspired and decided to go a different direction totally.  So no cards today (although this paper is just the best for card creations).  Instead, I played with bag making - one of my favorite ways to use designer series paper.  I mean what better way to show off a beautiful paper than in a gift bag.

 

This adorable little bag is made from scratch - not using our Bag Punch Board.  I like to make bags using both methods - and this bag is pretty cute and really fun to create!

Much like a bag I showcased a year ago with our gorgeous Delightful Daisy designer series paper, this bag has a "cuff" or turned flap at the top - which is a fabulous way to showcase both side of our beautiful papers.

 

There are a number of ways to attach or create handles for your bags.

I kept this one simple today - punch holes using our 1/8" Circle Handle Punch - and stringing some of the Mint Macaron Nature's Twine and simply knotting it in place.

 

This sweet little bag is only about 3-3/4" x 4" x 1-1/2" - just perfect some sweet little gift (like Hershey's Kisses - my favorite!!) - LOL

How about a gift for just no reason, just because -- and the papers in this collection are perfect with color schemes that include Blackberry Bliss, Cajun Craze, and Mint Macaron.

 

I made a quick easy tag using the coordinating Rooted In Nature stamp set, Cajun Craze & Mint Macaron inks, and the 1-3/4" circle punch.

A little Copper Metallic Thread, and 1/4" Copper Trim, and you're all set to go!!

 

I want to thank Rachel Tessman for her inspirational bag creations over this past month, and for giving such great directions.

 

One little tip for making bags with our lighter-weight designer series paper, like this set.  This paper can "crack" very easily when scoring and folding.  I recommend keeping a "light hand" when making your score lines and not using a bone folder when folding.  I found in testing and working with this paper, that if I wasn't careful, I basically could "score through" and the paper would crack and tear when I folded it into place.  Some of our heavier specialty designer papers, such as the Broadway Bound Specialty DSP will hold up better with scoring and folding for boxes and bags.
