Wednesday Highlight - Color My Season Thank You ~

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Oh My!  So I have so much I'd like to be playing with in my Studio right now; and like no time!!  Eeeeeek LOL  I finally was able to sit down for a little bit last night and play with the Color Your Season bundle somemore.  I have so many things I'd like to be doing with this bundle.  I think I'll be taking it with on my trip to Vail with my Mom, and carving out some time to just play!!  Yeah!!

 

Today I want to share a "highlight" on this bundle, and a really cute and quick idea for an adorable little "thank you" notecard using this bundle, the new Watercolor Pencil collection, and the Delightfully Detailed Notecards and envelopes set.  It just doesn't get any easier than when you have pre-cut, pre-scored notecards that are all ready to go.  On top of all that - these notecards already have "coloring" on the front to create a background, so that you don't have to!!

 

 

We'll take a look today at how to make these cute little notecards.

They are so easy to make, and include the pre-made notecards, and both the stamp set and coordinating die set.

 

On page 193, in the lower right-hand corner, you will find the wonderful Delightfully Detailed Notecards and Envelope set.

This collection includes 20 "color-washed" notecards, 5 each in 4 designs. (and envelopes)  The base color of the notecards is Very Vanilla.

I love the fact that these notecards have a "pre-colored" background that you can just work off of to build your card design. 

 

 

Next, we're going to take the largest of the framelits in the Stitched Seasons Framelits, and arrange that on the folded card base so that just a smidge of the "cutting edge" of the framelits extends beyond the folded card edge.

  

 

It should look something like this.

The intent is to leave sections that are not "cut" so that you still have sections of the folded edge intact so you can open and close your card, right?? ;-)

Now run that through your Big Shot!!

Technique Tip:  When running this through your Big Shot go thru and then come back (basically run it through twice).  Since you're going through 2 layers of cardstock, you want to make sure you get a good cut and impression.

   

Next, I stamped the floral image on one of my cards using Shaded Spruce ink; and the falling leaves in Mint Macaron on the other.

   

Then I just sat and had a little fun!!  ;-)

Our newest Watercolor Pencil set has 10 new colors in it - and I stuck to just this collection for these two cards.

What I want to point out to everyone is that this is an "exclusive" set - after August 31st, you will not be able to get this set of pencils! 

  

I used a combination of Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Granny Apple Green, and Cherry Cobbler pencils to color my leaves.

Then I came in with my Blender Pen to pull the coloring all together just the way I wanted.

The sentiment was stamped in Crushed Curry. 

 

For the flowers, I used Flirty Flamingo on the flower petals, Gorgeous Grape for the flower centers, and then a combination of Garden Green and Balmy Blue (for some shading) on the leaves.  And the same thing - I used my Blender Pen to work my coloring just the way I wanted.

The sentiment was stamped in Shaded Spruce on this card.

Can you believe that we didn't use one bit of SNAIL, Glue Dots, or any other adhesive on this whole card?

There are no layers!

Mix-It Up Mondays . . . Not "Always" Stampin' Up!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Oh My Goodness!!  Monday again!  And what a busy busy weekend we had here at DDS Studios.  Our very first Annual "All Occasions" Stamp-a-Stack - and I had those girls busy busy busy!!  25 cards later, and they now have a card stash ready for almost any occasion.  Everyone agreed - this will have to be a permanent annual stamp-a-stack!  So maybe you can join us next year!! 

 

Today I'm going to do something I very rarely ever do ~~ share a non-Stampin' Up! project.  Yes indeed!  I do have "contraband" in my Studio -- LOL.  I keep an eye on other websites, products, and inspiration; and every once in awhile I fall in love with something that I just have to snap up for my stash.  Today's set of products are some items that I saw demonstrated recently by another wonderful creative designer - all using Memory Box/Poppy Stamps stamps and dies - and a little Tim Holtz distress ink (some of my favorite inks in my stash).  I hold an ACE's class (Advanced Stampin' Experts), approximately once a year, and in that class we use lost of non-Stampin' Up! product just to get my crafters acclimated to other ways of doing things, other techniques, etc.  And then I like to bring them back around and show them how to make a similar project using nothing but Stampin' Up! products.  Sooooo . . . .  next week we'll see if we can CASE today's project with Stampin' Up! products only.  And then I'm going to ask you what you think :-) 

 

So today, let's "mix things up" and take a look at this gorgeous project.  I will give you the product list at the end.  Please note, as my disclaimer on my blog states ~~  I cannot sell you and do not receive any sort of return for non-Stampin' Up! products.  I have to go out and buy them just like you do.  I can only tell you where I purchase my products.  Today's products were all purchased through Simon Says Stamp.  They are a wonderful craft resource online for non-Stampin' Up! paper crafting supplies.  You will also see some Stampin' Up! supplies intermixed into this project (like papers, embossing powders, and adhesives) today.

 

 

 

We are using ALL Stampin' Up! cardstock for today's project - just an FYI.  I don't keep any other paper in my house (other than artist papers for watercoloring and copics).  So you are seeing Stampin' Up! Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Vellum cardstocks/papers in today's project.

 

 

The Very Vanilla cardstock is cut 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2"

And then lightly sponged across the lower half of the front of the card base with Tim Holtz Tattered Rose distress ink.  (Consider using Stampin' Up! Petal Pink classic ink as a replacement)

 

 

 

Next, I have cut 2 of the largest frame in the Memory Box Stitchwork Rectangle Frames by Poppy Stamps die set from Whisper White cardstock . . .

 

then using the largest rectangle from the Memory Box Rectangle Basics Open Studio craft die set, cut from Vellum cardstock.  The cut size is 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" (the exact size of the card front).

I have used a die from Memory Box/Poppy Stamps called Leafy Vine Collage along with the Rectangle Basics to create a "window" in the Vellum.  You'll notice that this is slightly offset to the upper left of the piece (and don't pay attention to the fact that somehow I didn't get my die straight before I cut -- LOL).

 

Next I cut 2 of the Memory Box Graceful Heron craft die from Whisper White cardstock, and glued the 2 together to create a thicker more sturdy cutout and give some dimension.  Then the Heron is sponged with Tattered Rose distress ink to match the card base, and will be glued in place on the Vellum "window", as you'll see in just a moment.

 

 

 Finally, I used the "negative" cutout from the Memory Box Splashing Puddles Craft Die to create the "ripple" in the water effect at the feet of the Heron as it is taking off.  I used Fine-Tip Glue on all my intricate die-work today.

 

 

Now, I did purchase the Birch Press Design stamp set Love and Miss You, which has the "Always" sentiment in it that was used on the original card design I saw.  However, I decided that I really wanted to use a Stampin' Up! stamp set for this card, and so I used the "Forever & Always" sentiment instead from the brand new Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set in the new Annual Catalog.  This set was the replacement for the Teeny Tiny Wishes set that retired at the end of May - and I absolutely love it!!  This sentiment is stamped with Versamark, and embossed with White Embossing Powder from Stampin' Up!  It's perfect for this card - and for an Anniversary or Engagement or Wedding!

 

So let's assemble . . .

The Stitchwork Rectangle Frames are "stacked" and glued around the outside edge of the Vellum cut rectangle.  By gluing one on top of the other, you create some dimension as well as a strong framework.

The Leafy Vine Collage cutout is glued to the rectangle cutout in the vellum.

Emboss the sentiment in place.

Then glue your 2 heron die cuts together, sponge the wings, and glue the die over the hanging vines on the vellum.  You will flip over and dab off the extra glue.  Use one of our Silicone Craft Sheets for your glue work.

Finally add the smaller "pool ripple" negative piece from the Splashing Puddles die cut out.

Again, I used Fine-Tip (and a little 2-way) glue for all my glue work on this project.

Last - you will adhere the finished vellum piece to the card front with glue around the outside edges.

Remember, it fits exactly 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" - so this becomes your gorgeous card front.

 

I have been debating about adding some pearls to this card.

Fabulous Friday Fun ~ Dandelion Get Well Wishes

Good Morning Fabulous Fellow Stampers ~

TGIF!!  And I'm so glad it's an Off-Friday for me too!! I have plenty on the list to get done today; but I'm just glad to be home and not in the office!!  Yeah! 

 

Someone used the word "Christmas" yesterday in a meeting and I whipped my head around and said 'what!!!' -- I mean, O M G !!!   Now let's think about that one!  138 Days until Christmas . . . 1 3 8 !!!  I'm freaking out just a teensy tiny bit!!  Just sayin'!!  I have a bad feeling that before we know it, the month of October will be upon us, and then I'll really start doing some panicking!!  Eeeeeek!!!

 

Sigh, alright -- well, time to start making some lists, some plans, and maybe, juuuuuuusssst maybe, the holiday won't sneak on me so fast this year!  Yeah, right!  And piggys will be flying tomorrow!  LOL

 

Let's have a little fun this Fabulous Friday!!  Miss Sadie Ann and I want to share some late Summer Sunshine and dreams of lying in the grass, blowing dandelion head seeds across the blue-lit sky with all those fluffy white clouds . . .  And what better way to cheer someone's day than with the Dandelion Wishes stamp set -- one of my Number One Picks from the 2018-2019 Annual Catalog!!

 

Now I have to tell you, I am the member of the MOST extraordinary demonstrator group in the country!!  And one of my fellow Stampin' Pretty Pals really inspired me this past week, and even gave me a pointer or two on how to make today's card design work.  I love this group; they support each other so well!!!  That being said, my ultimate vision for this CAS (clean and simple) card turned out a little bit differently than Michelle's.  My inspiration came to me as I was mulling things over in my mind while in the shower -- LOL.  Yes, I admit it; I get a lot of my good ideas while in the shower!!  LOL

 

This CAS card is easy and quick to make.  A 4-1/4" x 11" (score at 5-1/2") Thick Whisper White card base.

Cut a hole in the upper center of the card front using the 3rd largest circle in your Layering Circles Framelits.

Then sponge Daffodil Delight ink on the inside of the card behind your cutout.

[Hint/Tip:  Create a "template" using another piece of cardstock close in size; line it up underneath your cutout so you know it's lining up properly.  Then use that as a mask to do your sponging.]

Stamp the "blowing" Dandelion image in Memento Tuxedo Black to the bottom left across the card front . . .

[Hint/Tip:  Use the circle you cut out - lay it in place of the cutout hole to protect and cover the inside of the card while you're stamping.]

Stamp the smaller "floating" dandelion seed image to the upper right of your card.

Stamp the sentiment on the sponged circle on the inside of your card so that it shows thru the cutout.

And you have a fabulous "get well soon" card to send off to that bestie that's feeling down.

And yes -- I did finish it all off with a few Rhinestone Jewels scattered in the Dandelion seeds across the card  😉  A little bling to brighten someone's day!!

Can you believe there's not one bitty bit of adhesive in this entire card!?!  WOW!!  LOL

Case-Out Thursdays - A, B, C - And Baby Makes 3!

 Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Happy Thursday!!  I have to tell you that I'm so glad that it is the "end" of my work week!!  Yes, tomorrow is an Off-Friday, and I am so looking forward to this 3-day weekend.  I've been real tired this past; fighting off some sort of crud.  I'm looking forward to sleeping in a little, some time with my stamping girls, and a chance to relax as well.

 

It's time for our CASE for this week . . . and a return to our "all occasions" stamp-a-stack after yesterday's blog hop fun!!

 

I have to tell you that I fell in love with the sample at the top left corner of page 84 in our Annual Catalogs. I don't know what it is exactly, but maybe it speaks to the quilter in me.  The "ABC" blocks, and the sweetness of the design.  I'm not sure I would have looked at this stamp set if it weren't for the brilliant card sample.

 So let's "open the case" and see what we can find for today's fabulous sample.

"CASE-Out" Design Guide

 

 

1. Score the 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Pool Party cardstock at 4-1/4" and gently burnish with your bone folder. [Reminder:  Fold "inward" on your bump - bump goes to the inside - to get that nice clean professional look].  Use your bone folder gently so as not to "crack" your cardstock.   Note:  This is a side-fold card.

2.  Take one piece of the 4" x 5-1/4" Shimmery White cardstock, and using the largest Oval from your Layering Ovals Framelits, cut out the center.  With the other piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Shimmery White cardstock, take the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (lightly spritz your cardstock with water first), and run it through the Big Shot.  Turn the piece of cardstock inside the TIEF 90 degrees, and run it through again.  You are going to LOVE the effect of "linen fabric" you get.  Layer the Oval cutout cardstock over the embossed cardstock using SNAIL.

3.  Using the little triple "star" image in the stamp set, lightly stamp across the front of your Shimmery White layers with Pool Party ink (randomly, and stamp off so some are light and some are darker).

4.  Layer the 4" x 1/2" piece of Subtles DSP across the lower third of the Oval using SNAIL.

5.  Gently "curve" the "Bundle of Joy" sentiment on a clear block and stamp below the Oval cutout with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.

6.  Attach the finished layers to the front of the card base.

 

 

7.  Next, using the 2 block shapes in the stamp set, stamp a block using Memento Tuxedo Black on Mint Macaron, Bermuda Bay, and Flirty Flamingo.  Fussy cut out the blocks.  [Don't Panic - these are really easy shapes to cut out!]

8.  Using the "A, B, & C" images from the stamp set and your Memento Tuxedo Black ink, stamp the "A" on Bermuda Bay cardstock, the "B" on Melon Mambo cardstock; and the "C" on Pool Party cardstock (or Mint Macaron if you'd rather).  Fussy cut out each of these letters. [Note:  Do not trouble yourself cutting out the centers of the "A" and the "B"; we are only going to cut out the center of the "C".]

 

9.  Using glue dots, attach the letters to the front of the blocks - mixing letter colors to block colors.  

10.  Use dimensionals and attach your finished blocks to the front of your card, centered across your Oval cutout.  Finish your letters off with some Clear Wink of Stella.

11.  Add a few Basic Adhesive-Backed Sequins and this sweet little card is finished!!

 

Don't you just love it!?!  I hope my stamping gals don't panic on Saturday because they're making 5 of these in one batch!!  LOL  Honestly, it's really not a difficult design; and I just adore these letter blocks.  The other fabulous feature of this design is that you can change up the color palette to work for a girl or a boy.  And since I love yellow, I can see this card in Daffodil Delight (or even Pineapple Punch) with greens and corals mixed in for your blocks and letters.  How fun and cheery would that be!! 

 

There were just a couple of things we changed up today from the original sample:  1) I used the Subtle Dynamic TIEF instead of the Simple Stripes TIEF.  I just liked the effect better; 2) I did not do a splatter technique across the front of the card with my AquaPainter and ink.  Instead I stamped the small star image in Pool Party ink.  Again, I just liked the ease and look of this more.
