Mix-It Up Mondays . . . A Not So "Autumn" Card

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Well, that was a crazy weekend!!  How about all of you?  We did make it to the mountains on Sunday for our Annual Leaf Peeping trip - Guanella Pass into Geogetown!!  And the aspen leaves are "quaking" and just gorgeous - we got lucky!  Although the drought has hit some areas hard, other trees are turning just beautifully, and don't show much stress at all.  Thankful and Grateful for God's beauty today!!

 

In the meantime, "Summer" continues to try to hang on around here -- and I am now officially over the continuous 90 degree days . . . so I'm praying for rain and some cooler "Fall" weather for sure!!  I'm ready to put on the Apple Cider - and that doesn't work so well when it's 96 degrees outside!!  LOL

 

So, I didn't get as much time in the Studio this weekend as I would have liked . . .  and that will make for a crazy week for my evenings at home after work each day!!  Eeeeeeek . . . but we'll do the best we can.  I've re-arranged some plans for this week's blog postings, so please bear with me while we try to do some catching up again!!

 

 

Today I want to feature a card I created earlier last week, and that I'm quite excited about.  And we're infusing our "shimmer paint techniques" again -- don't forget that we're featuring "shimmer paint techniques" all this month; and I will be doing a videotaped review of our different shimmer paint techniques later in the month!!  So stay tuned for the fun!!

 

Today's card is a "sympathy" card in some soft subtle coloring that really is perfect for a sympathy theme.

 

Design Colorology

Whisper White

Soft Sea Foam

 

 

 

 

The card base for this card is cut from Soft Sea Foam, 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored at 4-1/4" (fold to the side).

I then have a piece of Whisper White cardstock cut 4" x 5-1/4";

Another piece of Soft Sea Foam cut 3-3/4" x 5";

And finally (what makes this card) a piece of Vellum cut at 3-5/8" x 4-7/8".

 

 

 

 

The stamping is done on the Vellum - the beautiful "sheaf of wheat" image was

inked with a mixture of Soft Sea Foam ink and Frost White shimmer paint.

If you are familiar with our shimmer paint from years back - this was a common "technique" that made stamping just beyond gorgeous!!

Technique:  Drop some of your paint in a paint palette well or on a piece of wipe-able/teflon sheet, then add several drops of the ink color or your choice.  Mix with a toothpick (I actually used the tip of my stylus from my Simply Scored, then wiped it off with a baby wipe).  Then use a sponge dauber to ink up the stamp and stamp away!!  Note: Be sure to clean up your stamp and area quickly.  You can use your Staz-On cleaner to clean up your stamps.  You don't want the "paint" drying on your stamp or paint palette.

 

 

The effect (if I caught it on the camera), is stunning.  A beautiful soft shimmer stamped on the Vellum.  Now, don't freak out on me, but I still have some of our Metallic Platinum Shimmer left over from years back, and I stamped the sentiment from the Wishing You Well stamp set in straight Metallic Platinum Shimmer paint on the Vellum as well.  It's really pretty.   I attached the Vellum piece to the Soft Sea Foam and layers using some "vellum tape" I got through Creative Memories (nice, because it doesn't show much thru the vellum).

I added a 1/8" Sheer Old Olive Bow; and some gorgeous new Frosted Epoxy Droplets, and this simple "wow" card is complete.

 

Our beautiful shimmer paints can step up any project.  Be sure to buy the entire set and give them a try.  I'll have more shimmer paint fun this week!!

Case-Out Thursdays - Falling for Leaves!

How have you enjoyed this week's "Part 2" installment to our "Fall Is Calling . . ." series?  I have been having so much fun sharing with you.  And there is so much more to come!!

 

Today I want to share with you a new stamp set bundle that, to be honest, I wasn't sure I was even going to purchase when I first saw it.  The Falling for Leaves stamp set was SO reminiscent of a set we had several years ago, that I was actually quite surprised; and not really drawn to the set.  BUT . . . yes, there's always a "but."  It has a coordinating die set that's just marvelous - and of course, I started to see ideas pop up out there that totally "enabled" me, so here we are!!

 

 

And today, we're going to CASE the design on page 45, because it is quite unique and uses a "texture" that you might not even have thought about or noticed in the original picture.  So let's go play!!

"CASE-Out" Design Guide

 

1. Score the 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" Crumb Cake cardstock at 4-1/4" and gently burnish with your bone folder. [Reminder:  Fold "inward" on your bump - bump goes to the inside - to get that nice clean professional look].  Use your bone folder gently so as not to "crack" your cardstock.   Note:  This is a top-fold card.

2.  From your Blackberry Bliss cardstock, cut two of the detailed larger leaves using the thinlit from the Detailed Leaves Thinlits Dies.  Note:  Run your piece back and forth through the Big Shot several times to help the "cut" and then it should "pop" right out.  Also using the large leaf framelit from the set, cut out a leaf from Cajun Craze cardstock.

3.  On your Whisper White cardstock "scrap" (I'd use a piece about 4" x 5"), use a dauber or a paint brush to spread a nice layer of Bright Copper Shimmer paint across the surface.  (Fill it in full and nice).  Then using Blackberry Bliss ink and the larger "detailed" leaf in the Falling for Leaves stamp set, stamp the image in the center of your Bright Copper prepped piece.  Then cut out the image with the framelit from the die set.

4.  Stamp the "pine bough" image across the front of your Crumb Cake cardbase using Shaded Spruce classic ink, stamping, and stamping off to create a "background".

5.  Cut apart a Santa's Bag, and then cut a piece approximately 3-7/8" x 4-7/8", and by pulling the threads both horizontally and vertically, fray out the edges.  Some Tips/Tricks on cutting your Santa Bag:  Snip/cut (if you are a quilter, use a ruler and your rotary cutter), off the top of the bag (the part that has the drawstring in it).  Do this right close to the sewed seam at the top.  Next, snip the threads in the seams on the sides of the bag and open up the bag (do NOT cut off the seams).  You can use an iron to flatten out the crease in the seams and the fold at the bottom of the bag.  This will give you a big enough piece of muslin to cut the size you want for the front of the card.

6.  Using your paint brush, "splatter" Bright Copper Shimmer Paint across your frayed muslin piece.

7.  Using Tear and Tape, attach the finished muslin piece to the card base front.

8.  Attach your leaves over the muslin with glue dots and dimensionals (this will help vary the heights and give dimension to the card front).

9.  Stamp the sentiment on a 3/4" x 3-1/4" piece of Very Vanilla cardstock in Shaded Spruce, then cut, adding angled cuts on either end.

10.  Cut a piece of Copper Shimmer  1/4" x 3-1/2", and snip banner tails at either end.  Attach toward the bottom of the Very Vanilla Sentiment so it peeks out using SNAIL.

11.  Attach the finished sentiment to the front of the card centered across the leaves using dimensionals.

12.  Finish off by wrapping your card front with Nature's Twine and embellishments of your choice.

"My Favorite Season" - September 2018 Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the Pals September 2018 Blog Hop.  We are so excited to showcase the brand new 2018 Holiday Occasions Catalog today . . . and share our favorite "season."  For me, this time of year, it's always all about Autumn!  And so, I have a wonderful "treat" to share with you today - that I hope you will find inspirational and "enabling" for a product or two that maybe you haven't considered yet from the new catty ;-)  (hee hee hee)

I have just been hardly able to contain myself in anticipation for today's post - and to share this wonderful "luminary" with you.  If this looks a little "familiar" to you - it's because I'm CASEing the luminary on page 9 of your 2018 Holiday Occasions Catalog ~ BUT . . . I have made this for Fall using the brand new Still Night Bundle which is like "to die" for!!!  Eeeeeeek . . .  I'm so in love with this project!!

 

 

This project is actually simple enough to create.

Using our brand new Galvanized Metallic Paper (which is like sooooo wonderful), cut 2 pieces that are 7" x 8"; then score along the 8" side at 3-3/4" and 7-1/2".  You're going to create window cutouts in each panel (I did this by using my Stampin' Trimmer and cutting out a window that is a 1/2" in on all sides), and then covering those windows from the "back" side with Vellum.

Once you've added the "decoration" on the outside panel(s) (front panel and back panel), then you adhere the two pieces together at the 1/2" flaps, and you have a gorgeous luminary for your end table.

 

 

I have cut out an Owl and a branch using the new Night Owl Thinlits Dies in the same Galvanized Metallic Paper for the front and back of my luminary - this creates the "illusion" and allows the cutouts to blend in and show through when the candle is lit inside (be sure to use battery-powered candles folks - this is paper after all).

Then I added additional decoration at each of the opposing corners which is the "pop" highlight of Autumn in leaves and sprays of varying Fall colors.  We have so many wonderful dies that you can use for this - I used the cute little "pine boughs" in the Night Owl Thinlits Dies in Old Olive and Mossy Meadow; and then some leaves and sprays using the "exclusive" Stitched Seasons Framelits in varying colors of Poppy Parade, Cajun Craze, Merry Merlot and Crushed Curry.

I finished it all off with some wonderful new Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets - just like "dew" on the leaves at dawn!

My Goodness!!  Monday again!!  How did that happen??  I had a really nice 3-day weekend; how about all of you?  I was able to spend some wonderful time in the Studio for the first time in quite awhile, and I really had some fun!  We're going to be exploring all sorts of goodies this week - and lots of Shimmer Paint -- LOL.  Let's start our adventure . . .

I'm definitely feeling Fall in the air around here - except this week is going to be an anomaly  . . . strange "record setting" temps all week.  But the past two weeks have been significantly cooler, a change in the air, and leaves beginning to turn to their Fall colors.  Our 10 days in Vail were interesting as we actually got to see change between the time of our arrival and by the time we left.   I really do love Fall; I think it's the coolness to the air, and the smells and change that I love so much.  If we could just stop the season at right about October 15th and then jump right over to April, I'd be great!!!  LOL

 

Today's card celebrates Fall in all it's glory!!

I hope everyone snapped up the beautiful Blended Seasons bundle during August.

If you didn't, it was an "exclusive" only - and is now gone!  And I am crying for you - because this was / is an incredible bundle!!

I'm showcasing the spray of leaves out of that bundle today, as well as the gorgeous die cuts from the framelit/thinlit set.

And then . . . I snuck in a new sentiment from a brand new stamp set in the 2018 Holiday Occasions catalog that I'm just so "falling" in love with (pun intended - LOL)

So let's walk through today's design - I'm so excited to share with you how fun this was.

 

 

This card is cut from Thick Very Vanilla cardstock, 4-1/4" x 11", scored at 5-1/2"

Then I matted with my favorite new Fall color - Poppy Parade (4" x 5-1/4")

Today's top layer is actually Watercolor Paper.  I don't do this very often - I like to use Shimmery White cardstock when I watercolor most of the time; but I thought it would be interesting to do something different on this card.  One thing that I liked about using Watercolor Paper for this project was the additional texture that it lends which I thought was perfect for this Fall-themed card.

 

The leaves were stamped in Versamark, and embossed with Copper embossing powder - the perfect color for trimming out Fall leaves I think.

Then I stamped in the sentiment from the new Country Home stamp set, and also embossed it in Copper embossing powder.  Be careful how you light up your images and then your sentiment - I'll show you why in a little bit.

 

Then I started playing with coloring my leaves.

I used a unique collection of colors to color these leaves on this project.

Note:  I used re-inkers in my little paint inkwell palette, and used my AquaPainter for all of today's watercoloring.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how these leaves turned out.  I spent Sunday morning just playing with the color - and it was sooooo much fun!

You might not think of these colors to create Fall leaves - but I encourage you to experiment, and go look at leaves in nature.  You might be surprised at the nuances you see in the colors in each of the leaves you pick up.

 

 

Then . . . ahhhh, yes ~~  Here comes the Shimmer!!  I took my paintbrush, and added Champagne Mist Shimmer paint over all of my leaves after they were dry.  I have tried very hard to capture the shimmer in today's pictures - the result in real life is stunning!!  As you move the card in the light, it looks like stained glass windows -- they are so beautiful!!

 

 

Next, I used the Pretty Label Punch to punch out my label.

And then I sponged the edges of everything with Soft Suede ink.

Now follow along on these steps carefully (I may do a Class With Wendy video tutorial on this card - so stay tuned!!)

Step 1: Wrap a piece of 1/8" Very Vanilla/Copper ribbon around the Poppy Parade 4" x 5-1/4" cardstock; BUT, keep the end on the right side loose, so you can pull it thru the punch out on the watercolor layer before adhering to the back side of the Poppy Parade cardstock.

Step 2:  Goes hand-in-hand with Step 1, as you are pulling the ribbon thru the cutout, go ahead and adhere the Watercolor piece in place on the Poppy Parade.

Step 3:  Now put both layers on the card base front.

Step 4:  Double up a couple of Stampin' Dimensionals (stack 2 together) on the back of your punched out sentiment, to get some nice "lift" to create an "eclipse" look/technique to this card., and adhere in place.

 

 

 

Now you can tie a double-bow and adhere it with glue dots.

And cut out a leaf and a couple of "curly" pieces from the thinlets set in Copper Foil.

Attach with Fine-Tip Glue.

 

 

 

Don't forget the inside of your card!!

A simple Copper emboss of just a portion of the leaf spray - so perfect!!

 

I cannot tell you how much I love this card - especially the shimmer aspect.  I want to give it to my honey!!  But not before I make another one - LOL.  Have a wonderful day everyone.  And be sure to stay tuned this week.  We have LOTS of fun coming!!
