Hello Fellow Stampers ~
Happy Monday ! January got away on me . . . and it's February!! Yikes! Can you believe it? 2019 is going to be crazy, I can tell already! LOL
It's been a busy couple of weeks here at DDS Studios as we kicked of 2019 with our first "in home" class - our Annual Valentine's class. And it was a ton of fun!! We had a full room, and lots of laughter and creativity!! (and the sneaking of a valentine cupcake here and there! - LOL) And I've been attacking some sewing projects that have long been awaiting my attention! It's so nice to play with fabric and change things up a bit for myself. Can't make cards ALL the time, right??? LOL Well, maybe . . . .
So, despite all of that, I have had a project sitting on my work table, and I think I'm finally ready to "mix" things up a bit with you and share . . . I have a wonderful "pocket card" that showcases the Forever Lovely set - and I really hope you'll enjoy this!!
This card design is basically a modified "Gate Fold" that has a belly band, and a "pocket" option for added extra fun.
It features the gorgeous All My Love DSP, that I added a Vellum overlay to to mute the colors. It makes such a nice effect to the front of the card.
The belly band was embossed with the Subtle Dynamic TIEF, before being wrapped and adhere together. I added the pretty little 1/8" Flirty Flamingo ribbon from the All My Love Ribbon Combo Pack, in a double wrap around the belly band; and lots of flare using the Forever Lovely stamp set and the Lovely Flowers Edgelits Dies to create a flower spray in just the right spot. So pretty! After inking and adhering, I added Clear Wink of Stella for lots of shimmer, and some pearls colored with the Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends. This is QUITE the belly band!! LOL
The pull-out card is a double-layered card created using the gorgeous edgelit from the Lovely Flowers Edgelits Dies. The best way to create this effect with the stamped image and the die cuts is to use your Stamparatus!
Here's a first look as the belly band is slid off the "Gate Fold" card.
You can see that I did a diagonal score on each panel to create folded back flaps. I loved this effect.
And here's the card opened up. You can see I chose Soft Sea Foam for my card base.
Now, if you wanted a true "pocket", all you would need to do is put some Tear & Tape along the bottom edge of left panel and close it down; then some Tear & Tape along the bottom edge of the right panel and close it down, and voila ~ you'd have a "pocket". You just would never open up that kind of card.
I chose not to do that. I wanted both the "pocket" effect, and the ability to actually open the card for an additional surprise.
You can see I added an additional stamped and cut heart and message. Here I used the Meant to Be bundle on page 6 of the Spring Occasions Catalog for another twist to this card. And I used the new Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set for my sentiment, punching it out with the Classic Tag Punch.
This card would work well for a birthday, or a wedding I think.
Now you can see I did my "testing" and working out of the measurements and folds on a piece of basic white copy paper. This way I can make "mistakes" and create a working model to make the final card from.
So here's the measurements and tips so you can make this card yourself:
Cut your cardstock base at 11" x 5-3/4" [yes, this card is just slightly larger than a standard envelope, so be prepared to make your own with our Envelope Punch Board.]
Score along the long edge (11" side) at 3-1/2" and 7-1/2" - each panel of the card will measure (from left to right), 3-1/2" on the Left Panel, 4" in the Center, 3-1/2" on the Right Panel.
Measure up each side (Left and Right Panels) to 2-1/4" (put a tick mark), then score on the diagonal from the 2-1/4" mark to the fold / score line on each side. Now fold the flap back on itself like in the picture.
To cut your DSP for the front panels, cut the paper approximately 5-5/8" x 3-3/8". Measure and make a tick mark at 2-1/2" and cut a diagonal (make your tick mark up the right hand side of the DSP and cut to the upper left corner for the left front panel; and up the left hand side and cut to the upper right hand corner for the right hand panel). If necessary, trim just a scant 1/16" off where necessary to make your DSP fit; and use the cut off triangles (flipped to their back) for the turned back flaps. The Vellum is an "overlay" and should be cut the same as the DSP it is covering.
The Belly Band is 1-1/2" wide by 9-1/2" long. The "crease" created by the embossing folder should fall right where you bend around the card edge - SNAIL shut at the overlap.
Hope that all makes sense!! ;-)
The pull-out card is actually 2 pieces of Whisper White cardstock cut 3-3/4" x 5-1/2", and then after the stamping and die cutting SNAIL'd together with the sentiment stamped on the front.
I colored the stamped image from the Forever Lovely stamp set using my Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Pear Pizzaz, and Balmy Blue stampin' write markers in just the right spots before stamping. The overlay is actually adhered to the underlay with SNAIL. Then I stamped the sentiment on the front with Pear Pizzaz, and added stamped embellishment. I finished it all off with a punched 1-3/8" Soft Sea Foam circle, that I then carefully scored down the middle so it would fold over the top edge of the card, and clipped on a pretty Gold Library Clip. It makes it fun to pull the card out of the "pocket" with.
It took me a lot longer than I had planned to get this all put together to share with you. I got waylaid, and lost some of my inspiration mid-week last week -- LOL
In the end, I'm really thrilled with how it all turned out - and I hope you love this Mix-It Up Monday project!!
We love to think outside the box and not always make our basic A2 cards here at DDS Studios. I hope you do too! Have a wonderful day and week!
Until Next Time . . .
