3-Way Fridays (3 Cards, 3 Ways) ~~ 2nd Installment of Christmas In the Making

Good Morning Everyone!  Happy Friday!!  And Happy start of a holiday break for me!!!  Although, I'll let you in on a secret -- I'm actually going to go into work for awhile on Monday as we have a project that just didn't quite get finished this week, and I can't leave it.  But I don't feel stressed about putting in a few hours next week, so all is good!! 

 

Today I'm bringing you the second installment of my Christmas In the Making series showcasing the new Stampin' Blends.  By next week, we'll have a full collection and will complete this 3-Way Friday - showcasing 3 cards, 3 ways.  I really love this stamp set, and I think you're going to love this card set when it's all complete.

This young lady makes me pine for younger years, life at home with family, Christmas as it used to be, easier and better times ~~ sigh, but I wax nostalgic.  She make me think of myself in my teens and young twenties, when Dad was still with us, and home for Christmas was the place to be.  I really love this image.

 

Doggone Delightful Stampin' Design Tips
When folded this card measures 5-1/2″ wide by 4-1/4″ tall.

 

You'll notice that I have changed the color scheme just slightly from the first card, but am pulling the set together by keeping one color consistent throughout - the Daffodil Delight.  In this card today, I chose the Old Olive as my primary.  I loved the idea of a green cozy sweater; it just seemed right.  And I adore the 1/4" Old Olive Stitched-Edged Ribbon wrapping the layering.

 

I pulled out all the stops and most of my Stampin' Blends on this one -- LOL.  Actually I really did have a lot of fun coloring this image; and it is so easy with the Stampin' Blends.  Old Olive (both shades) on the sweater; and then one of the packages.  Smoky Slate on Mister Kitty - and although I only used the Light Smoky Slate, I got the shading by adding additional layers of color just where I wanted them.  See how easy this is?  Rich Razzleberry is kitty's bow, and the darker version on the package right next to kitty.  Daffodil Delight on the slippers, head band, and another package.  Bows on packages are all Light Cherry Cobbler, and the small package in her hand.  I used the Ivory marker for the skin. and Crumb Cake for the boyfriend pants!  Crumb Cake layering of color was used for the hair.  I added just a little bit of Pink Pirouette on kitty's ear and nose area; and some Rich Razzleberry for the gal's lips.

 

Like the first card, I colored some pearls to coordinate with the theme color - these are Old Olive.  Coloring our embellishments with the new alcohol markers is so easy and they turn out just perfect!  I love it!  I also added Clear of Wink of Stella in some special placed just like I did on the first card.  On last week's installment, I added Clear Wink of Stella to the bow tie of the apron, the berries on the skirt and on the ornament the lady was holding.  Today Clear Wink of Stella was added to the slippers, headband, kitty's bow, and the gifts.  It's just the right bit of sparkle for the card.

I debated long and hard about adding the sentiment to the front of the card.  There is no question that just the image by itself with the little bit of embellishment made for a really nice, clean, crisp card.  After much contemplation, I broke down and put the sentiment on another piece of Shimmery White cardstock, punched it out with the 1-1/2" circle punch.  Then I cut one of the Swirly Snowflakes thinlits, carefully snipped and separated one of those snowflakes from the die cut, and layered it with the circle on the front of the card.  I'm happy with the result!

 

I snipped another one of those snowflakes apart and added it to the inside of the card.

Mix-It Up Mondays ~~ Autumn Notecard Pizza Box Gift

Good morning and a very happy Monday to one and all!  Tomorrow is Halloween - can you believe that one??  I was thinking about how much I need to get done for Christmas, and like November starts on Wednesday!!  Oh My!  LOL   It's going to be an interesting season for sure!  Did you notice that the Hallmark channel started their Christmas movies this weekend?!?  Nuts!!!!

 

It's cold and a little snow-like today.  Not supposed to last long; but I like the crispness.  Makes it feel more like Halloween.  The last several years it was way too warm for the Halloween time of year and it just didn't feel right to me.  Now, I think the full moon is missing . . . LOL  Can't have Halloween without the full moon to howl at, right? 

 

I had a short and very busy weekend; but I did get that wonderful pot of chili made on Saturday; and finally some studioing time on Sunday.  I certainly am not bored lately!!  LOL  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend with family, and some time for your own crafting as well.

 

It's time for Mix-It Up Mondays and I just had to reach for those wonderful Pizza Boxes again this week!!  I think they're are adorable.  I am showcasing a stamp set that I've been wanting to play with since September 1st -- and just have not had just the right moment to do so - Count My Blessings.  What a beautiful stamp set!  Be sure to check it out!

I am also showcasing our new Stampin' Blends today.  On Wednesday, you too are going to get a chance to snap up this wonderful alcohol markers.  So let's check out today's project and talk a little bit about blending markers.

 

Like last week, I sponged (brayered) the outside of the box; this time in Old Olive ink.

Because this is a regular matte finish cardboard, the ink soaks in quickly and dries quickly, so have at it and have fun!!

I then stamped the curved ivy leaf image in Crumb Cake (stamped off once) all over the box before folding it into shape.  It's a lovely background.

 

This week I created the belly band I avoided last week.  I thought it just looked right for today's project.

The belly band is cut from the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper - 2" x 11".  Then I just gently folded it around the box, overlapping in the back, and gently creasing at each of the edges - this is so much easier than trying to figure out where to score.  When you add SNAIL to attach the overlap in the back, loosen up the band just a smidge so it will slide on and off the box easily.  I added a wrap around the belly band of Crumb Cake 3/8" Classic Weave ribbon and Olive Olive 1/8" Sheer Ribbon - so pretty!

This really is all about the stamped and colored image though - I stamped this lovely leaf and acorn image from the stamp set in Crumb Cake ink on Shimmery White cardstock.  I chose such a light color purposely, so that when I did my blending and coloring the outside lines would fade and blend in and make for a lovely finished image.  Another note: I chose Shimmer White cardstock purposely, as it holds up better to watercoloring, and also handles heavy ink bleed through better.  You'll like the blending and color movement on this cardstock, as well as the shimmer!

You'll notice I used the lightest Smoky Slate marker to create shadowing around the image.  A tip:  even the "light" Smoky Slate is pretty dark . . . so use the Color Lifter to lighten the color and make it look a little more realistic.

I added careful shading and blending with the Old Olive shades, Crumb Cake shades (and the lightest Pumpkin Pie layered underneath on the acorns for extra dimension and shading/blending in the darker regions).

Folks, these are not Copics - and no marker will ever live up to the true artistic quality of a Copic.  There just isn't anything like it.

But, if you are looking for a nice basic alcohol blending marker that coordinates with our color families, these really are lovely; and I'm very excited that they are here!!

 

I created a little set of four 3" x 3" notecards with the coordinating 3" x 3" envelopes to fit inside this adorable box!

What a perfect little gift for someone!

 

I kept this notecard set simple.

The Whisper White cardbase is cut 3" x 6", and scored at 3".

The inset panel is cut with the largest Stitched Shapes square framelit; and matted with an Old Olive scallop square from the Layering Squares framelits.  It fits perfectly on the front of the card.

The background of the center piece is stamped with the same leaf image as the box in Crumb Cake (stamped off once first); and then overlaid with the wonderful sentiment stamped in Old Olive.  The card fronts are finished off with a few pearls.

And I stamped the front of each little envelope with one of the images from the stamp set, again in Crumb Cake.

3-Way Fridays ~ 3 Cards 3 Ways . . . A Painted Harvest Collection

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

 

Howdy howdy everyone!!  Well . . .  it certainly has been an exciting and interesting week.  The Vice President visited our facility on Thursday afternoon; and what excitement that creates!  We were on lock down - no movement between buildings, couldn't leave the campus, etc. - during the time he was here.  The Secret Service was everywhere, and even snipers on the rooftops -- LOL.  I think it's interesting since we're a secured DOD site anyway, and most of us have Secret clearances or higher!  But I'm sure security is of the utmost importance no matter where these folks travel.

I've never seen a presidential motorcade of any kind in person.  It was quite something watching them arrive and move around.  I learned a lot -- and have some great photos!  Anyway, so much for my fun event of the week!!  LOL  I think it's an honor any time the leaders of our country "rub shoulders" with us common folk.  I enjoyed every minute of it!  And there are moments like these that I still feel very proud to be working for this company and to be a part of the cutting edge work that we do.  I remember my Father always being so proud to be a part of Martin Marietta and the exciting projects that he was a part of over his 30 year career out here.  He would have loved this yesterday!  One of those moments when I wish he was still here to share this with!

On to more simple and mundane things of life!  Time for some card creating, and a 3-Way Friday installment which we haven't had in awhile.  I've decided to alternate between a Thursday CASE-Out, and a 3-Way Friday from week-to-week depending on how my schedule and time in the Studio is holding up.  And I hope to get a few instructive videos out for everyone here real soon.  It's been crazy around here lately.  And I'm trying to get some deep Fall cleaning down around the house too!  Eeeeeek!  LOL  😉

 

 

Today's fun 3-way focuses on my favorite stamp bundle in the catalog ~ Painted Harvest.  Love Love Love!!  This collection is a set of three 5" x 5" cards (when finished), all coordinated with Crumb Cake card bases; and yet each one very different!  I love the versatility of this set, and I hope you take a look at these today and feel inspired!!  Each of these cards is made with one single stamp set ~ the Painted Harvest set (except for the bow on the wreath that we'll talk about in a minute).  I hope you can see the incredible versatility of this set.  Even 3 wonderful sentiments in one set!!

 

 

This first card showcases the sunflower 2-step images as a wreath.  How sweet and pretty is this!!?!!

Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green are the color showcases in this card, both in the paper and in the ink.

The "wreath" is stamped in Garden Green and Wild Wasabi - a luscious combination!!

Recognize that fabulous bow?  I'll bet in all the excitement of all this wonderful new product, you've forgotten about the cute Jar of Love stamp set; and easy peasy ~ cut that bow out with the coordinating Everyday Jars Framelits.

Now that's a "clean and simple" card with a nice wow impact - don't you think?  I love the color combination put together here -- and here is another color combo to use your sunflower image with!!  (Thank you Kelly Gettelfinger for the inspiration!!)

 

 

Now the fun really begins!!

I've been chomping at the bit to create these adorable hedgehogs - all with that same sunflower image from the Painted Harvest stamp set.  And I LOVE this!!  I have to make more! LOL  😋

AND I used some of the "busier" patterns from the Painted Autumn DSP.  Sometimes the busier paper can leave you overwhelmed with what to do with it.  I think it works perfectly as a background for something like this!

The "fern-like" leaf image from the stamp set was stamped on it's "side" to make grass.  It's all about how you stamp up the image (and incorporated masking - I used little sticky notes to align my images) to create the look you want.

 

How about a sneak look at the inside?  Each card's inside coordinates with it's front and is unique unto itself.

 

 

This final card implements the sunflower image full on - in Peekaboo Peach, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, and Crushed Curry.  I actually stamped both images several times to create a "fuller" looking flower - which I really love!

And yes - one has been fussy cut and popped for dimension.  Don't let fussy cutting scare you - keep it simple (cutting only where necessary), and you'll find it well worth while!

Case-Out Thursdays - An Elegant Graveyard Gate!

"CASE-Out" Design Guide

1. Score your Basic Black cardstock at 4-1/4", and fold [Reminder:  Fold "inward" on your bump - bump goes to the inside - to get that nice clean professional look].  Use your bone folder gently so as not to "crack" your cardstock.  Set aside your card base.

2. Punch a "mask" for your moon out of masking paper or a sticky note; attach it where you'd like your moon to be on your Glossy White cardstock.  Using your sponge brayer, layer on Wisteria Wonder, Peekaboo Peach, and Archival Basic Gray inks.  Once you remove your "moon mask" add some additional sponging of color over your moon to soften the edges and add a little color.  Note:  I also created a "mask" with the edgelit in the die set so that I could create a "curve" to my sponging that matched the shape of the gate.  You don't have to do this; it's just a nice way to give yourself a "guide."  When you are satisfied with your sponged color, ink up the "tombstone" images from the stamp set in Archival Basic Gray and stamp where you would like.  You will notice that your ink dries quickly and easily despite the "glossy" surface of this cardstock.  The nice thing is how smoothly you can get the ink to layer and move on this cardstock and how nice it look when you are finished.  I did some additional sponging and playing with color here. I encourage you to experiment.

 

 

3.  Cut your Graveyard Gate from the 5" x 5" Basic Black cardstock.  Then score in a 1/4" on each side to create a "flap" that you will wrap around to the back side of the Glossy White piece.

 

Use the 1/4" score line just to the right of your cutting guide of your Stampin' Trimmer to line up the edge of your cutout.

Use your "score blade" - be careful NOT to use the cutting blade here!

 

Flip the gate cutout around, and use the bottom of your Stampin' Trimmer to again line up with the 1/4" line and score that side to create a "flap."

I am scoring from the "back side" of the die to do this -- the back side of your die is fairly apparent when you are cutting it - front toward the front of the die; back is the backside that you're pushing all your little pieces out of.

 

4.  Use SNAIL on the backside of your Glossy White sponged cardstock, and place the Graveyard Gate with the flaps wrapped around to the back.  Now SNAIL the entire piece to the front of your Basic Black cardstock base.  You will line it up so that the slight edging of Basic Black shows on either side of the Glossy White cardstock above the gate (the gate will cover the cardbase behind it on the lower half of the card.

 

 

5.  Cut your "lock" and "key" from the scrap Silver Foil.  Snip a cut in the upper part of your "lock", and slip it around the middle rung of the gate - using a glue dot behind it to hold everything in place.  Stamp your sentiment in Elegant Eggplant on the 1" x 1-1/2" Wisteria Wonder piece; then attach the key with a glue dot.  Create your "banner" stack, by using the Banner Triple Punch, and punch a banner from the 1" x 3" Spooky Night DSP, and the 1-1/8" x 2-1/2" Silver Foil.  Attach the Silver banner to the DSP banner; then add a strip of SNAIL and layer a piece of Vintage Crochet trim.  Using dimensionals, add the sentiment.

 

Then add dimensionals to the entire layered piece - and attach to the front of your Graveyard Gate card.

A few Black Rhinestones to the sentiment, and to the top of your Gate scrollwork are the perfect finishing touch!

 

You can see that I added some of my own touches to this design to make it mine -- the moon, rhinestones, etc.  I like to CASE; but I also like to add layering and touches that make the design mine.   Layer the inside of your card with Elegant Eggplant and Whisper White cardstock to finish it off.  I sponged the edges of the inside layering with Elegant Eggplant ink to soften it and stamped somemore of the tombstone images to pull it all together.  It looks nicely spooky -- LOL

Class With Wendy Wednesday ~~ Without the Video!

Good Morning Fellow Stampers ~

Well, here we are on a "hump day"; and I'm being mightily thankful that this week is an "off-Friday" week for me, so tomorrow will be my "Friday" this week!!  And that sounds pretty mahvelous to me!!  How about you?   😄

 

So a couple of weeks ago I shared a video tutorial with you creating a tone-on-tone card - you can click HERE to see it again.  I promised you that we would be taking a look at a slightly different style of creating that kind of a card - a stamped, popped-up letter-style card that is.  The new "Eclipse card" is all the rage right now!!  BIG HUGE on the cardmaking scene at the moment.  I'm sure you've been seeing it pop up on Pinterest and elsewhere.  The differences between the two cards are subtle; but I can tell you that the "eclipse" effect is quite fun and one you will definitely want to try.

 

 

 

So last week I was sick and didn't get a chance to put together a video tutorial on this.  I have decided this week to pace things a little bit.  So today, we're just going to take a look at my fun little Halloween "Eclipse" card and talk through the differences between the two designs a little bit.  This is not hard; and the few little tweaks you need to make are what create the "eclipse" look to this design.

Now, much like our last popped letter card, you want to use a piece of scratch paper, cardstock, or sticky notes to create a "line" to line up your letters on.  Then cut those out of your top layer to your card.  Unlike our last card, this card has a number of layers to it, including a layer that is the same size as the top layer and will only be seen in the "eclipse" of the popped letters.

 

This card is cut from an Elegant Eggplant card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4" - and turned on the horizontal with the fold to the top).  We have a layer of Basic Black (4-1/8" x 5-3/8"), and then a layer of Paper Pumpkin (cut 4" x 5-1/4"); and a matched over-layer of Smoky Slate (also cut 4" x 5-1/4").  The first "trick" to an "eclipse" card is a lighter top layer and a "pop" color or darker color underneath it that will peek through.

 

Now, another very important point to an "eclipse" card - you will want to hold onto all the "middles" of your letters -- in this case, i.e., the two centers of the "B", and the center to each of the "O"'s.  Replace the letters and centers back into their spots in the Smoky Slate, and then stamp your images - we're using the fabulous Spooky Cat stamp set today.  Have you looked at this set closely?  It is actually a 2-step stamp set - fabulous!!  Check it out.  The buckle on the witches hat, the beak and feet of the owl, all the "insides" to the potion bottles . . . they all are the "second" stamp so you can stamp any color you want.  I love it!!  Did you notice my cute little "tie" on my owl?  That was a happy mistake, but I decided my owl needed a little "dressing up" and I just think it's adorable!!

 

Now there are two final "tricks" to making an "eclipse" card work.  First ~ you are going to "SNAIL" down those letter centers to the card layer beneath (in this case the Pumpkin Pie).  So, first attach the Smoky Slate to the Pumpkin pie layer; then with the letters just "laid" in place, carefully either use glue dots or SNAIL, and place the centers of each letter flat to the Pumpkin Pie layer.  Then, the Second trick is what you use to pop up those letters themselves.  Don't use dimensionals!  You need a "deep" enough pop-up to get the "eclipse" effect.  So you want to use our Foam Adhesive Strips.  These are "taller" and give you the effect you want (that's why we use them for our shaker cards because you need a deep pop-up for shaker windows).  You can see in this photo the deeper pop-up effect and how the orange shows nicely around the letters.  I also used the Foam Adhesive Strips to pop up Mister Kitty so that he would be on the same level as the letters.

 

I finished off the detail on this card with lots of Clear Wink of Stella on the Witches Hat and Mister Mouse; and those wonderful Black Rhinestones in all the right places!!

I've been thrilled and excited to share our Halloween Eclipse card with you today.  Can you see why they call it an "eclipse" card?  If you were lucky enough to get the full effect of the eclipse in August, then you know that when the moon fully covers the sun, you only get that "halo" of light and color around the edge.  Kind of cool, isn't it?  Implement the little tricks and use the video tutorial from a couple weeks ago, and I KNOW you can have a fabulous "eclipse" card too!!  Don't hesitate to ask me questions - I'm here to help!!  And if you need any of the supplies for today's card, just visit my Online Store today!  Halloween is just around the corner after all!!  😉
