Wednesday Spotlight - A New Catalog and Autumn Fun!!

Whew!  Well, it's been a whirlwind of a Summer.  And we definitely took a break from the blog.  But Labor Day has passed us, and now it is time to get back to the Studio, and lots of Fall crafting.  Before we know it, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas will be upon us ~~  and we have a Brand New Catalog to help get us there!!!

IN THE SPOTLIGHT ~~  ALL ABOUT AUTUMN SUITE!

We're kicking off my favorite season and time of year and our return to the blog with the All About Autumn Suite.  This gorgeous suite of products is a "Must Have" in my inventory.

Today's card showcases the gorgeous Oxidized Copper Specialty Paper, the Autumn Leaves Bundle (stamp set & dies), as well as the new Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder and the Copper Ribbon from the combo pack (currently on backorder).

 

This card is designed on a Very Vanilla Thick cardstock base, cut 11" x 4-1/4", scored at 5-1/2". 

I then used the fabulous Decked Rectangles Dies to cut my layers of Copper Clay, Pretty Peacock and the Oxidized Copper Specialty foiled paper in the Pretty Peacock colorway.

The top layer is Very Vanilla embossed with the new Distressed Tile 3D Embossing Folder.  I LOVE this new folder -- it has a true "Tim Holtz" feel to the design with very distinct "distressed" areas that actually show when embossed.  Fabulous!!!

 

I finished off the focal point by cutting one of the large die cut leaves from the same specialty foiled paper, and then the leaf veins (which are a separate die - how cool is that!!!), out of Copper Clay.  These are glued on the leaf and then the leaf is popped with dimensionals in the center, a Copper Bow adhered with glue dots, and the sweet sentiment stamped using Pretty Peacock classic ink, and "fussy cut" for a perfect effect to the front of the card.

It's all finished off with the new Adhesive-Backed Speckled Dots from this new suite collection.

 

The inside of the card is finished off with the matching colorway in the layers -- and a strip of the pretty foiled paper at the bottom.

Not in the Blog Hop - Sunny Days Pickup Truck

Hello Fellow Stampers ~~

It's the 2nd Wednesday of August already, and that means it's the Stampin' Pretty Pals Blog Hop day.  As I continue to "sit out" the Blog Hop itself, we'll carry on in parallel as we have been.

This month, the Pals are showcasing anything using a punch; and as I wanted to kick off some late Summer/early Fall fun this month, this was the perfect time to showcase the Trucking Along bundle -- an absolute favorite of mine from the Online Exclusives collection.  

 

 

This adorable vintage truck is right up my alley!!  ADORE!!

This card base is cut from Thick Basic White cardstock, 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored @ 4-1/4" (a top fold card).

Then I found this GORGEOUS plaid in the Inked Botanicals Designer Series Paper collection.  It too is right my alley!! 

In a perfect aqua/teal plaid, I couldn't be happier - swoon!!  LOL

This paper coordinates with our Lost Lagoon and Pretty Peacock colors, which I have combined in the layering throughout this card front.

 

The front focal panel is actually watercolor paper that I have created a watercolor wash background using Lemon Lolly and Pebbled Path inks.  Quick and easy - and perfect for my late Summer day scene.  I used a Pebbled Path Stampin' Write marker to free-hand some additional depth and texture to the ground underneath the truck tires.

And I slipped the sweet sentiment in at the bottom using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. 

 

The truck was stamped on watercolor paper using Versamark ink and then embossed with Black emboss powder.

This allowed me to play with water and ink without everything going everywhere.  The embossed line helps to keep things contained a little.

I used a combination of Boho Blue for the main truck color, and Wild Wheat to add a little "rust" coloring along the bottom and fender edges.  The tires are water colored with Pebbled Path ink.

Isn't this cool!!??  LOL

 

The center focal layers are all layered together and then popped with dimensionals in the center of the card front.

Then the flowers are stamped on the finished watercolor background; 2-step stamped with Wild Wheat ink for the flowers, and a little Stampin' Blends color added in Old Olive for the leaves and stems, and some Calypso Coral for flower centers and a little shading.  They turned out a little darker than I would have liked, but that's alright!

The truck is then popped in place using dimensionals, with it's pickup bed load of flowers showing in just the right spot.

The piece is finished off with some Ombre Matte Decorative Dots.

 

The inside is finished off with some additional plaid paper to emulate the front, leaving plenty of space for that special message to the recipient.

 

Don't let the fact that the Truck Builder Punch is on backorder right now deter you from this fabulous set.  This truck is easy peasy to "fussy cut"; and with all the fun elements in the stmp set, you can have hours of creative fun!!

No Matter the Season -- Fall Is Proof that Change Can be Beautiful!!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

I'm baaaaack!!!  Another unplanned "away" from being creative with all of you has occurred.  This time, it was waaaaaaaayyyy beyond my control!!!  On the morning of Monday, October 3rd, I looked over at my desk to see my computer screens totally dark - and I'm like, why is the computer off???  A few minutes later I realized we "had a problem Houston!!!"  And I grabbed my precious Violet Purple baby and ran for the Geek Squad!!!  But it was not to be!!!  Several days later I was informed that the Mother Board was gone and I would most like be unable to replace it due to the age of the laptop.  Sigh!!!   So that Saturday, my husband and I went to Best Buy to make "difficult" decisions on a new set up for my business.  I have to tell you, buying a new computer is beyond overwhelming!!!!  Worse yet, I've been told that the company's have worked in "force obsolescence"!!  Excuse me??  My new computer may not last much longer than 3 to 5 years!!  Sigh. 

So, after much gnashing of teeth and pulling out of hair . . .  I am finally back up and mostly running.  I've had to search of passwords, locate websites, you name it!!  It's been a little bit of a nightmare.  There will be LOTS of backing up from here on out, is all I can say!!   LOL

 

I'm finally getting caught up around the Studio as well.  It's been a crazy month.  We had a fabulous Annual Halloween Class here several weeks ago, we've been humming along with our virtual Coffee & a Card Class; and last Saturday I participated in a local Stamp 'n Scrap Expo, successfully selling lots of my Studio Clean Out items.  Whew!!  I will soon be putting the remaining Studio Clean Out Sale items up here on the Blog.  And making an announcement soon about how DDS Studio Clean Out Sale will be handled in the future.  Lots more announcements and catch up coming, so stay tuned!!

In the meantime, I finally got to creating a card that I've long been wanting to play with, and I hope you will like!!

 

I fell in love with the Aspen Tree Dies the first time I saw them.  The Perched In a Tree stamp set has been a little bit more of a struggle for me.  I still haven't inked up that bird, and I can't quite figure out what is throwing me off, since I am a bird lover!!

At any rate, many of my friends know that Fall is absolutely my most favorite time of year (thus, the reason I had my wedding in September - LOL), and we have had the MOST beautiful Fall this year here in Colorado.  The Aspen trees have outdone themselves the year, unlike anything we've seen in some time!!!  It has actually been a "normal" Fall in Colorado - something we haven't seen in a number of years.  That being said, this past week, we have made the "shift"!  Yikes!  The temps have dropped, our first freeze came on Sunday night, and I'm seeing Snow in our future!!  It made me think of blue hues and silver and white colors, signifying the change in the weather, and the soon Winter season ahead.  So I decided to take my favorite die set, and create a "blue-hued" Fall card.

This card is cut from Orchid Oasis cardstock, 4-1/4" x 11", scored @ 5-1/2".  And I used the Deckled Rectangle Dies to cut a Starry Sky panel to sit in the background of my focal point.

These days, Stampin' Up! has left us with no choices for Ovals, and Ovals are by far my favorite shape!!  

So I went hunting through my stash, and realized that I still have the old Framelits Ovals Collection that retired in 2016.  -Yeah!!  Thank goodness I hold onto certain things!  LOL

So I die cut the largest scalloped oval in that set out of the mid-color Silver in our Silver Foils collection and layered it in the background.

Then I cut the next size oval and 3rd oval in to create a "window" from Shimmery White cardstock.

From the Pearlescent Specialty cardstock I die cut the aspen trees in the Aspen Trees Dies.  Then I "glued" those to the back of the oval, and carefully trimmed all the excess away around the outside edge.  Then I die cut a matching oval out of Vellum and attached dimensionals to the back of my aspen tree oval before attaching the Vellum.  Then I finally attached the entire finished piece to the front of the card.

It creates a beautiful soft look to my chilly Fall scene!!

For my leaf spray, I watercolored a mixture of So Saffron, Highland Heather, and Orchid Oasis inks onto Shimmery White cardstock, then die cut the leaves with the die from the Aspen Trees Dies.  The effect turned out just gorgeous and makes me think of a late cool Fall day walking among the trees in the forest.  The leaves are layered and attached with glue dots, the smaller ones left with their front edges sticking out for a great 3D dimensional look.

 

I finished off the card with a double tied ribbon using both Orchid Oasis and Starry Sky Metallic Woven Ribbons; and some gorgeous Iridescent Pearls Basic Jewels. 

The sentiment was stamped on Shimmery White cardstock, with just the one section I wanted colored using an Orchid Oasis Stampin' Write Marker.

 

And then the other half the sentiment, colored the same way, and stamped inside.

 

 

I hope you have enjoyed my design today.  I'm so glad I finally sat down and created this card.  It is so pretty!!

For all of you who hang onto all your wonderful Stampin' Up! products and supplies, pull out those older retired products and use them!!!  There is lots of life left in those wonderful products!!

Wednesday Spotlight - Pretty Pumpkins

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Yeah!!!  It's Hump Day!!  Thankfully this is an "off-Friday" week for me from work; and I'm gonna need it after the week I've had going here!!  My "real job" has been unbelievably stressful and chaotic this week.  I need a Real Vacation is what I need!!!  LOL

 

We finished up our Coffee & a Card virtual class series today that focused on the Pretty Pumpkins Bundle!!  We have been having so much fun!!  Have you thought about signing up and joining us?? - It's easy!!  Check out all the details for our next Coffee & a Card Virtual Class series HERE.

 

So having wound up our current bundle focus class today, I wanted to bring it forward to the blog, and create a really special design to share with everyone!

This design is the culmination of a number of pieces of inspiration I have seen online, and I sat down to take all the parts I love and meld them into one beautiful card!

This design centers around three basic colors - Cajun Craze, Basic Gray and Very Vanilla - which I played off of with Black and Rose Gold woven in.

The card base is Cajun Craze, cut 4-1/2" x 11", scored @ 5-1/2".

I then snuck in a piece of Rose Gold Metallic specialty for a hint of glimmer around the outside edge.

Then I cut a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of the gray/vanilla scattered leaves image paper from the Simply Elegant Specialty DSP collection, and matted it against a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Basic Gray Cardstock.  That layered panel was wrapped with a piece of 1/4" Black & White Gingham Ribbon before being adhered to the Rose Gold panel and attached to the card front.  I then tied a bow near the base of that centered ribbon to give me a point to work off of for the rest of the design.

 

Then, to make sure I got things line up just the way I wanted, I actually cut a 5-1/8" x 3-7/8" piece of Basic Gray cardstock; die cut the one end with the scallop in the Scalloped Contours Dies.  Then I set the piece so I could "eyeball" where I wanted it to sit above the tied bow, measured, and ended up cutting 1-1/4" off the opposite end - then adhered it to the panel (sliding it underneath the wrapped ribbon so it would look like it was part of the initial layering). - I love how this turned out, allowing a nice piece of the designer paper to show, without overwhelming the overall design.

 

Then I added a "square" layer to the upper portion of the card - 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" Cajun Craze cardstock; then a panel of Very Vanilla cardstock measuring 3-5/8" x 3-5/8" which I then embossed with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder, sponged lightly with Smoky Slate ink, before popping it with dimensionals in place over the previous layers.

I then cut 3 tags using the Tailor Made Tags Dies, alternating the 3 sizes using Cajun Craze, and Basic Gray.  The top tag is stamped with this simple sentiment from the Sparkle of the Season stamp set, in Versamark, embossed with Gold Emboss Powder.

The tall pumpkin is cut from Black Glitter Specialty Paper; and the smaller pumpkin cut from Rose Gold Specialty paper.

The bottom spray of leaves/flowers, is colored with Smoky Slate and Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends, and popped in place.

 

I really love how this card turned out.  I love the rich colors; and how different this feels.  Instead of the typical autumnal colors, it feels fresh to me!

However, I wish I had used Basic Gray for the leaves on the pumpkins instead of Soft Succulent -- what do you think ??

Wednesday Spotlight - Welcoming Woods Showcase

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Happy Hump Day everyone!!  I'm finding this week might be moving a little too fast for me to get everything done that I want or need to.  I'm holding our first "in person" class in some months this coming Saturday, and there is much to be done before then!!  haha

 

 

Last week, I showcased the Gorgeous Leaves Bundle in our Wednesday Post; and I promised you that I would be back with what amounts to a "coordinating" stamp set that works perfectly hand-in-hand with Gorgeous Leaves - Welcoming Woods.  In fact, the two sets sit side-by-side to each other in the Mini Catalog, on pages 46 & 47.  They are intended to work together, as the one set carries all the sentiments, while the other has all images.  This is something that Stampin' Up! does so well!!

I really fell in love with Welcoming Woods when I first saw it.  It's a simple stamp set that makes me think of standing in an Aspen Grove of trees here in our beautiful Rocky Mountains.  And the set gives you wonderful options as to how dress up those tree trunks and branches.

Today I am showcasing this design with two seasons - Fall and Winter - to show you how versatile this really is!!  And how wonderfully the sentiment from Gorgeous Leaves works with every season we showcase!!

 

We'll start with Fall, of course!!  LOL

And oh how much I love this simple card design and how it showcases so beautifully.

I started with a Very Vanilla Thick cardbase, 8-1/2" x 5-1/2", scored @ 4-1/4".

Then I used Cinnamon Cider cardstock and the Rose Gold Metallic Specialty Paper for my matting.

 

This works perfectly for my copper accents throughout this design (much like last week's card).

I stamped the trees in Sahara Sand ink on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock; then added some falling leaves (image I used for those is from the Welcoming Woods stamp set), using Versamark Ink and Copper embossing powder.

I then used the 3-leaf image from the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set, to fill in the bottom with various colors - Old Olive, Mango Melody, Merry Merlot & Cinnamon Cider.  Then went back and added over the top several more of the previous leaf image again in Versamark and embossed with Copper embossing powder.  I love the layers of stamping, finished off with embossed leaves.

The sentiment I referred to earlier from the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set, works perfectly - stamped in Versamark ink, embossed with Copper emboss powder, and die cut with the Tasteful Labels Dies.  It is popped with dimensionals over a piece of Gray Granite Shimmer Ribbon, and a few additional die cut leaves from the Intricate Leaves Dies tucked in.

Here I hope you can catch some of the shimmer of the Copper embossing.

 

The second card showcases a Winter scene.

This time we're using a Thick Basic White cardstock base, same measurements.

And I matted with Fresh Freesia cardstock, and the new Silver Foils Specialty Paper you'll find on page 23 of your Mini Catalog.

I think this new Foil may be getting missed.  It is absolutely gorgeous!!  It has 3 different foils of varying shades and textures in the package.  What I love about the mid-color and darker-color foils is that in certain light, they actually look lavender (kind of a dusky lavender).  They're gorgeous.  I picked the darkest foil for this project; it has a wonderful linen texture weave to the surface of the foil - just beautiful!!  And because it tends to pick up a purple color to its sheen, it works perfectly with my purple/lavender color scheme for this card.

For this card panel, I used Shimmery White cardstock, again stamped the trees in Sahara Sand ink; then using the snowflakes image from the Welcoming Woods stamp set, stamped them in Versamark ink and embossed them with White Emboss Powder.  They're harder to see in the pictures; but in real life, it's so cool to see snowflakes floating down across the trees in the background.

I added additional snowflakes at the bottom using Highland Heather ink; and then overlaid a few more White embossed snowflakes to finish it off.  You can kind of see the "purple" hue the Silver Foil gives in this picture.

 

For this card, I used the beautiful iridescent White 3/8" Glittered Organdy Ribbon which just reflects all the colors in the design.

And I offset the sentiment with a piece of die cut foil and added some little foil snowflakes using the So Many Snowflakes Dies  (you'll find those in the Annual Catalog by the way . . . )

The pretty little Opal Rounds finish off this particular card.

I wish you could see it in person -- it's quite pretty, and feels "cold."  LOL
