CASE-Out Thursdays ~~ A GREAT BIG Thank You in a little notecard!!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

Hot! Hot!! Hot!!!  That's what July is turning into!!!  Yikes!!  I'll be staying inside this weekend as we hit the 100 degree mark tomorrow!!  Trying to keep the grass and all my planters watered so things don't faint in the sunshine!!  LOL

 

It's time to return to our CASE-Out Thursday fun!!  And today we're going to CASE the cute little card at the top of page 169 using the Whale Done Bundle.  But, of course (LOL), we'll be "stepping it up" to create a "Wendy Card".  So here we go!!!  Let's crack that suitcase open!

"CASE-Out" Design Guide

1.  Fold the Notecard on the score line (bump to the inside), carefully burnishing on the score line with your bone folder.

2.  Cut a piece of Seaside Spray cardstock to 4-7/8" x 3-3/8".  Alternate stamping the small "heart" image (in Misty Moonlight ink) and the "bubbles" image (in Seaside Spray ink) from the stamp set.

3.  Wrap a piece of the Misty Moonlight/Silver Baker's Twine (from the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack) around the stamped cardstock; tie a small bow (use a glue dot to attach and hold in place - your "third hand"!); then attach to the front of the notecard base.

4.  Cut a circle using the largest circle (not scalloped) in the Layering Circles Dies), from Vellum cardstock.  Attach to the card front with SNAIL (Stampin' SEALl) in only the center of the circle (where it will get hidden by the whale when it is attached).

5.  Stamp the "Thanks a Ton" sentiment in Night of Navy ink on Whiser White cardstock; cut out with the smallest scalloped rectangle in the Stitched So Sweetly Dies.  Attach to the lower left of the circle, at an angle, using SNAIL (Stampin' SEAL).

 

6.  Punch the pieces and parts of the whale as follows:  Basic Gray for the main body & fin; Smoky Slate for the underbelly; Basic Black for the eye; Misty Moonlight for the right side of the water spout; Night of Navy for the smaller right side of the water spout.

7.  Use 2-way glue (if you have it) or multi-purpose glue to assemble your whale - underbelly and fin (& a small dot of glue for the eye).  Using the "bubbles" image from the stamp set, stamp the "spots" on the whale using Night of Navy ink.

8.  Attach the whale to the center of the Vellum circle; and the water spout pieces above him.

9.  Finish off with a smattering of sequins; and use Clear Wink of Stella on the underbelly of the Whale.  -- sparkle makes it special!!!

CASE-Out Thursdays ~~ Diagonal Fold Re-Make!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

 

Happy Thursday!!  Who is looking forward to a "long" weekend for Memorial Day???  Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee . . . .  LOL  And we're supposed to be returning to Spring-like weather (upper sixties; low seventies); instead of "July in  May" weather -- LOL  Hopefully we can putter on some projects around the house; and find some relaxing moments too!!

 

 

Back in February I showcased this Diagonal-Fold card showcasing the Parisian Blossoms suite of products!

I've been meaning to do a tutorial on this "fancy fold" but have been dragging my feel a little bit!

 

About a week ago I was perusing Pinterest and ran into an idea with the Free As a Bird bundle, and was reminded that I really loved this card fold and wanted to play with it again!

And so . . . . here we are today!  With a "remake" of this fabulous "fancy fold" (or fun fold), remade with a different designer series paper and a whole new set of stamps and dies!!

I wanted to showcase the Bird Ballad Designer Series Paper in this project today - sadly this DSP will not be carrying forward!

BUT, there's a new product tucked into this design -- can you see it ?? 😉😉😉

All the birds and leaves are fussy cut!  A little time-consuming, but not too bad!

And there is plenty of Wink of Stella in all the right places for a lovely shimmer added to this card!!

CASE-Out Thursdays ~~ A Prior DSP Showcase Redo!!

Hello Fellow Stampers ~

How is everyone doing this fabulous Thursday??  The weather man says there is rain on the horizon!  I'm kind of hoping so as we've been a little bit dry around here the past several weeks!

Today's post is a continuation of yesterday's fabulous Blog Hop where I showcased the gorgeous, and soon retiring, Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper.  And the projects showcased today are a "remake" (CASE) of a project from last year, with an update and some "step ups" that make some fabulous new alternatives to this "fancy fold" design. 

 

There's nothing better, in my mind, then showcasing our gorgeous designer papers; we definitely had one during Sale-A-Bration last year that was "to die for" as far as I was concerned.  You can see last year's post on "showcasing your DSP"  HERE.

Today's projects follow along this original design and "fold" showcasing your designer paper, with an "update" to the measurements and score lines; and some new ideas to make these projects even more special and fun!  Ready?!?  😉

 

Let's take a look at each of today's card designs one at a time and I'll walk you through the details and the "slight" variations for each project.

The basis of each of these designs is basically the same . . .

Cut your 12" x 12" designer series paper 5-1/4" x 11-3/4"

Then score down the long side at 1-3/4", 4-3/4" & 7-3/4"

You'll see that I've changed the measurements slightly since I showcased this "fancy fold" last year.  I like having just a little bit more paper to work with.

So this first card is the "classic" where we simply attach the DSP to a 5-1/2" x 4-1/4" card base (in this case you can see that the main ccard base is cut from Blackberry Bliss; with a mat layered piece in Pacific Point, before attaching the DSP folded piece).

Then on the front flap/fold is where you attach a sentiment or decorative piece that overlays (i.e., half is glued to the flap, half hangs off) and you do your decorative work for the "front" of the card.

 

When you pull the fold open you get the full "beauty" of this card.  And what a fabulous way to showcase both sides of your DSP.

Here you can see that I added a second die cut in coordinating cardstock to cover the "back" of the front sentiment.  This allows me to add some "strength" and to layer the designer paper between the two pieces and make it look nice!

The inside back "base" is where you can put your main card area with a sentiment, design, and area to write!

This one was cut with the new Ornate Layers Dies, and matted with another piece of Blackberry Bliss to keep the coordinating color scheme throughout.

Now let's move to card design option 2 with this same fold.

In this case I did not want to showcase the "back side" of the designer paper; only the beautiful floral side.  The "back side" shows either to the "inside" of the card if you fold it that way; or on the front of the front panel when you fold it in and it would not have looked good against the florals.

On this card you actually glue down the front panel to the second so that you actually only open one fold to open the card (I'll show you that in a minute).

So what I did was cut a second piece of the DSP at 1-3/4" to cover the "front" of the front panel; glued the first panel to the second panel - and added the pretty strip of ribbon (leftover from yesterday's project) down the seam before gluing everything together to hide the ends.

Then I added the sentiment piece as usual and my floral decor; including my cute little bow!

Here's how this card looks when you've glued the front panel to the second panel - when it is open.

I like this look - the card doesn't fold out quite so far, and the front panel is definitely a "sturdy" and really pretty look!

Here's a little bit closer look at the front sentiment area.

Unlike yesterday, where I just punched the flower petals out from the DSP with the Perennial Flower Punch, and layered them together, I actually stamped these first right on the paper with the Floral Essence stamp set, before punching.  It's a beautiful and easy way to have the petals look "colored" without having to do anything at all!  Oh, and ALL the flowers have been accented with Clear Wink of Stella for a beautiful shimmer.

 

The third design glues the front panel down to the second; AND also glues the edges of the 2nd panel to the back panel to create a "pocket" card!  I love this design!!  You'll notice we also turn this one on the horizontal which is a nice "change" to the design and look of the card.

In this case I cut a decorative edge with the Ornate Borders Dies and glued it in place before I glued down the front panel to the second panel (and added the ribbon along that edge as well as I was gluing things closed.  Like the card above, I cute an additional 1-3/4" piece of the designer paper to cover the "back" side of the paper that would have shown here when the DSP was folded.

The second panel is then glued just along the top and bottom edge to the back panel to create a "pocket" for this cute little card to slide in and out of.

Don't you just love that?!

I have another little "tip" for you today.  I'm sure you noticed here (and in the first card), that the Perennial Essence Floral Center does not appear "yellow" like it comes in the container.  Sneaky Sneaky me!!!  I rolled/dipped the embellishment on my Versamark pad; then dipped it in embossing powder (here it's Copper emboss powder; above it was White emboss powder); then heat set it for a really neat effect.  It takes the bright yellow color down a notch and kind of changes the look -- perfect for a flower like this, don't you think??!!  😉😉

What I love even more is the sponging I did on this little card to match the color scheme of the designer paper - Blackberry Bliss, Mossy Meadow and Pacific Point create the perfect "variegated" look to match the paper.  Then I stamped the flowers (stamped off once first on scrap paper), to create a soft accent in the background.  So pretty!!

Each of these cards uses a similar design (CASE'd from Ann's card on April 26th) for each layout; slightly different from each other in subtle ways.  Instead of a step-by-step tutorial like I usually do for CASE-Out posts, I'm just going to walk through each card briefly!

 

This card utilizes the pretty laser-cut outs in the product medley; coordinated against the Pretty Peacock card base; with the pop of Copper Foil to set things off.  Here I cut a piece of Shimmery White cardstock to go under the laser cut out piece; color-washing it first using my AquaPainter and Pretty Peacock ink, to give a pretty effect to show through in the background.

I wrapped the layers with the Old Olive/Pretty Peacock Reversible Ribbon before attaching it to the card base.

The rest of the piece is easy; cutting the rectangle using the Stitched to Sweetly Dies; stamping the sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink; adding a little banner (approximately 2-3/8" x 1" finished size); and then the ready-made punch out from the medley.  I used wink of stella on the fruit; and added the bumble bee (also from the product medley to finish it off.

 

This one is on the horizontal (8-1/2" x 11", scored at 4-1\4", fold to the top).

This time I used the flip side (back side) of the laser cut out piece and framed it/backed it with Blackberry Bliss; a nice contrast to the Mossy Meadow cardbase; popped with the Rose Gold Foil you'll find in the Everything Is Rosy Product Medley (still available on the Clearance Rack, Item #150059).

The ribbon here is the Whisper White 1/4" Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon that I stamped over and over using the bokeh spots in the Beauty Abounds stamp set, and Blackberry Bliss ink.  The mottled look is gorgeous!!  A double ribbon is a must with Crinkled Seam Binding!!

Finished off with some pretty little butterflies along with the copper bumble bee.  So pretty!!

Finishing your insides is a must!

I stamped each image in Gray Granite; then used Soft Sea Foam and Daffodil Delight Stampin' blends to do the coloring.

"CASE-Out" Design Guide

1. Score your 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Cherry Cobbler cardstock base at 4-1/4"; gently fold and burnish with your bone folder.  Reminder:  The "raised bump" of your score line goes to the inside to create that beautiful professional fold.

2.  From the 3-3/4" x 5-1/8" Cherry Cobbler cardstock, die cut using the largest Layering Oval die from the center of the piece.  Then run the piece through your Big Shot using the Parisian Flourish 3D Embossing Folder.  Using a sponge, gently sponge the raised areas with Craft White Ink (alternatively, you can ink up the embossing folder first before running it through with the cardstock).

3.  On the Sahara Sand cardstock, stamp the "small cursive word group" from the Parisian Beauty stamp set (the 5-sentence message that starts "I love you til my heart could burst"), using Sahara Sand classic ink, randomly across the entire piece of cardstock. 

4.  On a piece of Shimmery White cardstock, stamp the Eiffel Tower image using Staz-On Jet Black ink.  Then cut it out with the coordinating die in the Parisian Dies. 

5.  Line up the Sahara Sand stamped piece behind the Cherry Cobbler embossed/cutout piece, so you can see the stamped words through the Oval cutout.  Line up the Eiffel Tower image so just the tip comes to the top of the oval cutout (see sample); snip off the bottom of the Eiffel Tower image where it is too long for hiding behind the Cherry Cobbler cardstock piece; tuck and attach to the backside in place.  Then attach the Sahara Sand cardstock to the Cherry Cobbler embossed/die cut piece with SNAIL. 

6.  Pop the finished layered Sahara Sand/Cherry Cobbler piece to the front of the card base using dimensionals.

7. On a piece of Shimmery White cardstock, stamp the Apple Blossom spray image from the Forever Blossoms stamp set, using Staz-On Jet Black ink; also stamp 2 of the single flowers, and one of the single leaf.  Using a Blender Pen, watercolor the petals with Petal Pink Classic Ink, and the leaves with Old Olive Classic Ink.  Die cut the pieces with the coordinating dies in the Cherry Blossoms Dies set.

8. Cut a 2-1/4" x 3/4" piece of Parisian Blossoms Specialty Designer Series Paper; snip a "tail" on one end, and arrange to the lower left of the Oval opening on the card front.

9.  Lay out/arrange the Apple Blossom die cut spray across the lower left-hand side of the Oval opening (overlapping the banner) and attach with dimensionals.  Arrange the single apple blossoms and leaf, and attach with dimensionals to the upper right-hand side of the Oval opening (opposite the apple blossom spray).

10.  Stamp the "Amour" sentiment on a 1-1/2" x 1/2" piece of Basic Black cardstock, using Versamark.  Then Heat Emboss using Shimmer White Stampin' Emboss Powder.

11.  Attach with a dimensional on the left-hand side and SNAIL on the right where it overlaps the apple blossom spray.

12.  Finish with Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels.

13.  Enjoy!!
