Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend!! We had a fast moving and BIG snowstorm here. 14" of snow fell in about 5 to 6 hours during the day on Saturday (starting at about 10:30 am). It was crazy!! LOL
Here's a "morning after" pic - right at sunrise. It was quite the Winter Wonderland outside. We shoveled throughout the previous afternoon trying to keep up. It's always a trick when it snows like this here in Colorado!! But things are warm and sunny and melting fast, which is also a Colorado thing!! LOL
I have one more "late" post I had intended to share in late December/early January. And then we're going to kick off a Week of Sale-a-Bration and head into some Valentine fun as well!!
This will be part of an occasional new "installment" series called Creating Memories Mondays where I'll be sharing scrapbooking-style layouts for your memory keeping creative fun!
This double-page layout showcases the fun elements found in the October "Home for the Holidays" Paper Pumpkin kit and "Add On" kit. I loved this kit. Paper Pumpkin has just gotten better and better over the years.
I took various elements from the kit and from the "Add On" to create this fun layout.
I used 12" x 12" sheets of Orchid Oasis cardstock for the backdrop on this layout.
Then I cute up the pre-printed card bases from the Add-On kit to get pieces of sky and snowscapes that I dispersed in various areas across the sheets.
I then used various houses and trees from the original PP Kit and trimmed them where necessary to create my little vignettes among the spaces laid out for photographs.
Finally, I snuck in some pretty snowflakes, cut from the Wishes All Around Dies (now retired, from the 2023 Holiday Mini Catalog), using Night of Navy Soft Shimmer Specialty Paper (in the Annual Catalog, to add some additional interest and fun!
This will be the perfect layout for a family holiday collection of pictures!!
Well, now that we're finally caught up on "belated" posts -- LOL -- we'll be getting in gear with "current" fun! Get ready for a Week of Sale-a-Bration coming your way shortly!!
I Love to hear from you. Leave your questions or comments below!!
Well, still struggling around here to do everything that I want to do!! So far I'm discovering that juggling sewing/quilting, card designing, the real job, and maintaining my home and taking care of hubby is about more than I can do in a day's time!! LOL
Last week was ALL about finishing some looooong overdue UFOs (unfinished objects in the quilting world). And this week it's back to the Studio design table as I have the BIG Annual Christmas Stamp-a-Stack this Saturday, and my crafters are expecting BIG things!! LOL
Here are a few of the finished projects from last week for just a little fun peek ~~
You can't see the embroidery in the Ivory fabric squares on this one -- but it's really pretty; different garden tools and scenes done in a green thread that matches the borders. Lots of fun!!
The BIG quilt for Mike for Christmas is still waiting in the wings! Yikes!! Wish me luck!
We kicked off the Coffee & a Card class series two weeks ago -- with the new Winter Meadow Suite. Oh my, what a beautiful set of products!! We're having a lot of fun!
This past weekend was Stampin' Up! OnStage at Home (our virtual "convention" if you will), and I was greatly inspired by one of our Demonstrators who showcased some fun ideas with a new product suite coming in the Spring Occasions catalog. But I took her idea, and headed straight for the Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper to try it out.
What a lot of folks may not realize is that I love to scrapbook; and my scrapbooking products of choice are, of course, Creative Memories. Marrying Creative Memories with Stampin' Up! products then is like pure Heaven for me!!
This layout showcases the gorgeous Winter Meadow DSP - one of the sheets lends itself to this design perfectly. I simply "fussy cut" the one corner of that design, and laid it on a Starry Sky 12" x 12" cardstock background (slightly trimmed to fit the Creative Memories album page), and created matted cardstock areas for the future pictures; and then played with the Magical Meadow stamp set and dies to create fun embellishing.
Isn't this fun? Our designer paper makes memory making and scrapbooking so easy!!! Especially some of that paper that you hate to cut up! Use it in your memory book instead!!
Some of you may not realize there is a new "resident" at DDS Studios. Sadie calls him an "illegal alien" who "crossed the border" -- but that's a story for another time!!! 🤣😂
Oscar got his "Permanent Resident Green Card" in July, much to Sadie's chagrin, so now DDS Studios has a cat along with the Dog!! WOW!!
Lately, Oscar has been making himself known around the Studio . . . and it's becoming harder and harder to get any work done!! LOL
Things are definitely getting interesting around here . . .
More antics later!!
I hope you have enjoyed today's little check in. We'll be back to share more fun with Winter Meadow a little later.
I Love to hear from you. Leave your questions or comments below!!
Whew! TGIF!! What a week !! It's not quite over yet! And I have a busy weekend ahead! Tomorrow I am spending all day with my Mother - a special day set aside for her. We'll go to brunch, do a little shopping, and then we have planned to spend the afternoon in the Studio working on the Heritage Album she and I have been very slowly working our way through. It's a tedious task when you're dealing with such old photos. But it's something she wants to do - and I think it's important. The album is really turning out beautifully, what little we've done -- LOL
I've planned some pretty gifts for her; but it really was this impromptu one that I'm sharing with you today that I think is extra special. I'll give the back story here in just a second.
This is a 12" x 12" frame that I picked up at Michael's specifically for this project
The background paper is from my most favorite collection in the current Annual Catalog - about to retire (actually I believe it's sold out now) - Delightful Daisy DSP.
So I'll give you the back story to this project . . .
A couple of weeks ago, my mother and I attended the year end chorale concert for Colorado Christian College here in Denver. Having sung in choirs since I was in junior high school, being vocally trained, and an extensive musical background - but one which I've let go of in recent years - it was much more nostalgic than I was anticipating and I spent a fair amount of the concert being teary-eyed. I remember my college days and how wonderful it was to be part of a group like that and traveling for tour, and competitions and all of it!! It was a wonderful afternoon spent with my mom.
The chorale ended their concert with a song I had never heard before called "Anticipation." I'm sure it was moving for everyone in the room; I can only speak for myself and how the words of this song and the beautiful sound moved me so deeply.
Later after I was home, I found a recording of the song by the Messiah College Choir online (I'm sharing it here for you so you can hear it if you'd like), and I called mom later to tell her what I had found and that I had all the words to the song (I've since bought the sheet music as well).
She asked me to write the words down for her. I thought to myself, what can I do that would be more than just "writing down the words" for her on a piece of paper.
I know that she was very moved as well by this song. We are commemorating the 9th anniversary of the passing of my father next week after his battle with cancer; it seemed the perfect timing for this song, and this special project.
So I typed up the words in PowerPoint where I could manipulate a "large oval" shape that I was envisioning.
Then after printing I cut it out!! This simply could not have turned out more perfect really!
From there it was a matter of just creating the look I was trying to achieve.
The background paper is bright and sunshiny which I really wanted; and then I pulled out the Daisy Delight stamp set and the Daisy Punch. I used Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, and Old Olive inks to match the background; and everything is done on Shimmery White paper.
Not only are there retiring items in this project -- but I have snuck in some brand new products as well - the new Springtime Impressions Thinlits die set - absolutely gorgeous!! You're gonna love it!!
This butterfly is part of that set . . . and was cut from the Myths & Magic Glimmer Paper.
And on the upper left and lower right corners is a brand new floral cutout -- don't you just love this?!? You're going to be over the moon for these new products!!
A slightly closer look so you can see the additional little flowers I cut from the Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper and overlaid.
Yes, they have little pearls in their centers.
I topped this off with a bow tied around the upper right corner of the picture frame, and let the tails trail down.\
This ribbon is also brand new -- and you're going to drool, I promise you!!
Whisper White Polka-Dot Tulle Ribbon !!
Don't you just love it!!
And yes, everything is finished off with pearls (some of our extra large ones that retired several years ago), and Gold Faceted Gems in the centers of the Daisies themselves.
I have to say, I might have to make a second one for me -- LOL It is so pretty I can hardly stand to give it away. It's sitting on my dining room table right now, and is so lovely! I couldn't be happier with how it turned out !! I hope she will like it! What do you think?
I wish each and every one of you a blessed and beautiful Mother's Day weekend!! May we live each day in "anticipation" of the day we enter the presence of our Lord and see all our loved ones who have gone on before.
Happy Monday! One week from today is Christmas Day !! Eeeeek -- are you ready? or are you running around crazy like I am. I tried to get the Christmas shopping under control over the weekend. Ever feel like "the best laid" plans go awry no matter how hard you try to stay organized and efficient? LOL
So I'm busily trying to get caught up today, as I'm behind on about 5 things - yikes! Including our newsletter, which I hope to have out to everyone tomorrow; so just hang on everyone! In the meantime, it's time for today's MIX-it Up! MoNDaYs post, and it's time for this year's installment of my annual holiday photo album. In year's past we've had Project Life, as you all know. You can see last year's album HERE; and the year before HERE.
This year, we have a new memory keeping system called Memories & More, and this year's installment that I am using for today's album fun is called Merry Little Christmas Memories & More Card Pack. It coordinates beautifully with our Merry Little Christmas product suite in the Holiday Occasions Catalog. I've incorporated a few of those products when designing my cover for my album this year.
This is the 6" x 8" Basic Black photo album -- I love this size album for my annual Christmas journal; and this Basic Black bound edge to this Kraft album is perfect for this year's card pack and theme.
I incorporated this pretty acetate with silver foil printing card from the Memories and More pack in the center of the album; stamped and die cut ornaments with the Carols of Christmas bundle; and then cute the trees with the dies out of Silver foil for across the bottom. I added the Year of Cheer embellishments for some extra "fun."
Simple, easy, but really fun and festive!
Here's a little closer look -- I put Silver Metallic Thread thru the embellishments for kind of a fun look - like they're ornaments too.
Here's a sneak look at the inside cover page -- I still want to add the year in numbers using our Large Numbers dies - probably in a silver or maybe even a Kraft cardstock look - still deciding! LOL
Here's a look at some of the card setups inside the album -- I really love this set of memory cards. There are 4 colorways in the collection, including this black & white combination.
I'm using my leftover pocket pages from Project Life (I had a good stash); but we have a wonderful, very similar collection in the current Annual Catalog as well.
Here is a quick look at a few of the cards from this collection in the green and white colorway. There is also a nice Cherry Cobbler and white colorway.
And then there is a whole set of the Kraft and White colorway in the Merry Little Christmas collection that is just wonderful!
What I love about our new Memories & More sets is that every single card design has 2 of each, so that you can use in your album; but you can also make a card or other project!
I hope you've enjoyed getting a look at this year's album project. I'll be working on this hopefully over the next couple weeks as I record this year's fun events, and holiday gatherings.
